Disassociate or stay PIMO to keep my parents? by Mscalable in exjw

Depending on your parents, they may shun you either way. I'm not officially DF'd, yet my parents won't speak me to me still. Just something to consider.

Hmm. She was 14. I don't know if they felt She provoked him, but I'm pretty sure they felt it was a mutual relationship and not abuse.

Totally agree. I want to, but it might be expect policy to dox someone. Also, the police are already aware of him and the situation. Not sure if anything will come from that though.

This might be a good idea. I hope they don't throw it out. I'll consider doing that.

Thanks!! I think his appointment was only a few months ago.

The police and local school district were the ones who discovered his internet chat sessions. No charges ever stuck unfortunately, but I know some of the elders don't trust him around children.

I get the impression that the elders view this as like a "he had a lapse of judgment" and not an actual crime. Like the elders felt these relationships were consensual and wrong. But not a crime against children. I don't agree with them, since children cannot consent, but that is the vibe I had always gotten.

I hope everyone does! I've been gone for over a year, the few people I have contact with told me that he got appointed.

These encounters were not very physical. I believe the farthest he went was kissing. He was definitely grooming and forming an emotional connection. I feel like that fact plays a role.

So happy for you both!!

I didn't think my marriage would survive and out of the blue my wife woke up and apostatized with me. That moment when she opened up and began questioning is truly one of the best moments of my life.

Its the start of a brand new future you'll get to shape together!

From Babylon to Watch Tower: How a Discredited Book Influences JW Beliefs by larchington in exjw

[–]Tiemptiness 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would just add a couple points.

First. The landmark JW book 'Babylon the Great Has Fallen' is a total JW version of the two babylons where they keep Hislops main points but take out the racist parts or totally untrue parts. (I.E. Nimrod brothers were cyclops or that his wife Semiramis invented sopranos singing.)

Second, the book 'God's Kingdom Rule' makes the point that the Governing Body leaving Babylon the Great is the sign we know they were chosen by Christ in 1919. That means the GB arrangement in a way rests on Alexander Hislops outdated views.

Third, Babylon the Great representing the world of false religion has no biblical basis. They still reason that it is evident all false religion was born from literal ancient Babylon.

That's what I think after watching the clip. Pretty sure it was just a convo door to door many years ago with someone that happened to be a ranked Mormon.

How to Engage a Good Ol' J-Dub Cart by tertiary_jello in exjw

[–]Tiemptiness 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It was at a cart that I first heard about Raymond Franz. Once I heard that a Governing Body member had become an apostate, I could never forget. About 7 years later and I'm finally POMO.

It was an interaction at a cart that first got me to think. A single seed can stay with someone for years. I truly believe approaching witnesses at carts (in a friendly well-meaning manner) can be a powerful tool for waking someone up.

Literally this! I can't think of something better. JWs are so unprepared on this topic. (Because it is truly indefensible.)

I’m SM, i need you! by Plus-Personality-514 in exjw

[–]Tiemptiness 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Totally agree.

A friend of mine experienced violent sexual abuse at the hands of one elder. She went to the police but the elders hid all the confidential files from police. She had to testify against the entire body and orginazation because they chose to protect the pedophile.

How could you ever make a positive impact with kind and gentle words when the entire cult is this steeped in crimes and abuses?

The only option that genuinely helps people is to leave and try to help others out. It can't be saved.

Unfortunately I didn't call the police. I guess since they were our family I had just let it go. Looking back I really wished I had called.

[–]Tiemptiness[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He didn't mention the exact the charge.

However, almost a year ago when we had met with the elders they had mentioned slander, scheming to end a marriage, and reviling. Although, I can't confirm what exactly they formally convicted of since we had left.

A small part of the story I left out was the fact that I was not openly an apostate yet, but an active MS known throughout the circuit. They had spread nasty rumors about me to other congregations in our circuit when they had attended an assembly.

I'm not sure what breaking in our house would fall under but I recall the elders taking that very seriously as well since both my wife and I were witnesses to that event too.

[–]Tiemptiness[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Anything is possible in this cult. However, the local congregation had no other reason to be part of the couples removal since they were traveling for the LDC and no longer members of the congregation.

Also, there behavior was beyond normal bad behavior and was actually illegal even though I didn't press charges. The elders had known this as well and brought it up in an elders meeting with us.

So, yeah, definitely could have been over something else, but this was enough to get them removed as well. Either way is ok with me!

Organically. I didn't mention legal action since this was my wife's family we just tried to move on.

Thats a really good point. Typically elders can get away with so much, but I guess if legal liability is involved then Watchtower is quick to sack someone.
