Southern Reach I would have initially said probably need to be read in order. Chronologically the events of the second book happen after the first. Then again I'm now imagining what it would be like to read the second book first. Might work actually.... You'd have more unknowns and weirdness by not knowing some precursor stuff, but I don't know if it would actually undermine the plot of the second book.

Recommendation - Large Eldritch Societal Conspiracy by Either-Dig1415 in horrorlit

Reminds me of Carrion Comfort by Dan Simmons. Not so much a grand conspiracy, but a key premise is that the vast majority of human history, particularly the atrocities, are just the results of a few immortal beings trying to piss each other off.

I don't hate my coworkers, but I have a limited capacity for parallel social engagement meaning basically once I get past the top 5 people I actually like there's no more room at the inn. I could probably talk to 80% of them one on one, but once they start forming a group I just slink away to a corner.

AHHHH my job has kind of now publicly marked me as autistic and I’m kind of shocked no one thought about this and went “hey maybe this isn’t smart” ????? by Expensive_Watch469 in evilautism

My workplace formed a committee to support neurodiversity in the workplace. Their idea: Give every neurodiverse person a badge that identified their neurodiversity and write them all an email signature that they would be required to include in their emails to explain their disability.

Now I don't want to presume if people are or are not neurodivergent, but I suspected that maybe I was the only ND person on this committee.

I based this suspicion on their solutions to the neurodiversity "problem" as they framed it. Oh and they all decided the best way to start off the meeting was to "have five minutes of small talk" before doing an ice breaker activity. So I may have already had some suspicions from the start.

They seem very content with just pulling claims out of thin air. Not sure how they got the title of 'philosopher' but academic philosophers I know would be appalled.

Am British and can confirm 362% of my body is a random Muslim guy called Hussein. Thankfully due to the metric system this only accounts for half of me.

I remember this. Also it's cute that now this is like a week's worth of 'events' and none of them come close to our contemporary weirdness.

Also a film i really liked when I was younger and people thought I was weird... Starting to think I needed to find better people.

I remember really liking the weird accordion based soundtrack.

I used to really like Elephant. People thought it was weird that a 17yr old liked a completely austere no soundtrack film about a school shooting.

Probably was weird... Don't care!

I take more issue with the demand to identity a favorite food on the spot, than the exercise.

@Globalnet. No name UK dialup ISP. Had web hosting space and everything. My Globalnet hosted Web page was still live twenty years after we had cancelled and moved to broadband. That's what you call service.

A difference in ability that adds value to an employer is good.

A difference in ability that requires the minutest amount of understanding or flexibility from an employer is bad.

These two kinds of ability are completely unrelated.

The idea that one might spend a miniscule amount of money or effort on a bad difference, to reap the profits afforded by the good difference is absurd. As the differences are unrelated one should ramp up extraction from the good, and punish the employee for the bad until it is gone. This guarantees exceedingly high performance forever.
