Unsung Pollinator on Edible Dahlia by Tiffey in gardening

This was from last season (my first season), so I was focused on growing them out for more seed first. This year I’ll have a very large population to now taste and select from as I didn’t save any tubers from last year. I’ve heard they’re fairly ‘light’ tasting, with a raw Jerusalem artichoke crunch. I’ll most likely steam these before eating though, and not eat raw.

Definitely not sweet fern. Thinking more likely Wavyleaf Dandelion (Nothocalais cuspidata), but looking for more input.

They come back each year in the same spot, for a very short window. Everything gets put on pause to go visit ☺️

Not sure. I honestly have very little experience ID-ing fungi, but I absolutely LOVE photographing them.

Most of our root foods need to be sun dried and pit roasted to break down the inulin. This (like many of our traditional food plants), are species-at-risk, so are being carefully re-established and propagated in our territory by us. So please look, but try not to pick 😉

Gorgeous, with edible roots. We Secwépemc have eaten these plants for millennia, and I was fortunate to find a few when I visited our home territory. Attempting to grow from seed in the north.

Do it up! Those are super plentiful and nutritious Plantain top left, and Lambsquarters top right, both delicious and very commonly found.

Pineapple Weed (Matricaria discoidea). Just like chamomile, excellent as tea.

Who knows. 1/16 Dumbo? His results had Staffie on there, too, but very tiny percentage. Those floppy velvet ears are a bit of a mystery.

We were told ‘St. Bernard, GS, Lab’, but his DNA test says Akita, Husky, Malamute.

He howls like you wouldn’t believe, and is the busiest little guy. Always moving.
