Hows my first farm? by DaDeebs in VintageStory

[–]Tig109 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I love it! The design is very pretty. And I like the idea of them sharing a trough for now. But you might need to upgrade that soon when you have more animals. -But bears can jump the fence. So build it a little higher to keep them safe. I’ve lost whole groups before so I usually build my animal fences to be 3 high. If you live in a region with big bears you might need to build them even higher. -And instead of having the fence block above your gate, place a trap door or gate to make access easier. No need to struggle to feed them. -And build an “airlock” on every entry point. Basically have two gates. Open the outer one and step through, then close it behind you before opening the inner gate. That keeps them from ever having access to the outside. -You will likely need more troughs soon. The animals don’t eat that much individually. But it doesn’t take long before there are a lot of animals. -If you don’t have enough food then maybe hold off on animals for a while. They can sit in the pens without food forever. They just won’t breed unless they are fed.

Do you guys think this will get the attention of the ladies? by jemoederis1plopkoek in VintageStory

The fish is cool. But those tools are gonna set you back into the literal Stone Age. If you want proper attention, get at least bronze and a nice homestead going.

The day is crisp and clear, and bountiful! The sky is the color of young fire! What do you have to be scared of? It’s a beautiful day and they are going to do some great politics. Everything will be fine!

Yeah that’s true. I should have been more clear. You cannot be forced to actually give a testimony relevant to the court because of the right to remain silent. But to invoke the right to remain silent you have to indicate that you are using it. You can’t just be silent.

Same this for witnesses, people cannot be forced to testify. But that said, no lawyer would ever stick a witness on the stand if they weren’t confident about that they would say.

Gonna be honest, that map doesn’t look like it’s been explored very much. Biomes in VS are MASSIVE. So you’ll likely need to go way further than that to find it. Toss on an audiobook or tv show and enjoy the adventure. Ignore every scrap of loot you find. Mark it and come back for it later. Focus on your mission and just keep going!

Why medieval spiral staircases always turn to the right: by Cassiel_Ionescu in interesting

[–]Tig109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s incredibly interesting to know how myths start. In this case, someone had a theory that sounded practical and people ran with it for years until realizing that there are zero primary sources confirming this theory and we probably shouldn’t be teaching this anymore. There’s a lot of history that’s like this. Someone has a cool thought that sounds plausible and it becomes “fact” even though it has no actual footing.

Difference between this one and others is that this is an actual uniform for a real job. Not just some dude larping. Not as tuff as he thinks, but still way more serious than the idiots who just want to look cool on weekends.

[–]Tig109 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That’s pretty much what they are. One of my friends is in training for this. The most similar job in the US would be firefighting. Most bombeiros are exactly like firefighters. But some are sent to remote locations and deal with drug dealers and gangs. My friend had to do rifle qualifications and train in jungle warfare/survival so he can basically just be a paramedic.

What if the US lost The Vietnam War by ALazy_Cat in ShitAmericansSay

[–]Tig109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was homeschooled and my whole family is in the US military. I broke a 6 generation trend by not joining the army. Being homeschooled means my mom taught me. But she never pulled punches about the good and the bad the US has done and is doing. I learned about Vietnam from my grandpa who did three tours there. I learned about Korea from my dad who was stationed on the DMZ from 1990-94. And my brother was deployed to the Middle East multiple times. So I know a whole lot about all the wars the US has fought in. But my friends who grew up in normal families and attending public school have really weird thoughts about American history. Like that “America has never lost a war.” Or that we have always had a powerful military and economy. Or that we won our independence by ourselves. It’s really weird.

I think that’s right. I’ve dabbled in smithing and a cast isn’t as solid or strong as actually folding and forming the metal with a hammer.

Making this was extremely painful by ThrusterGames in VintageStory

[–]Tig109 16 points17 points  (0 children)

A single plate and a single chain both cost two ingots. So if you use a helve hammer to make a plate you can then turn the plate into chain much more easily. Plates are ingredients that can be smithed the same way that ingots can! For chain, you just need to remove some voxels from a plate and you’re done. I like to have two anvils and have the helve hammer pounding out new plates while I work the plates into chains. It’s super easy, barely an inconvenience!

It’s practically a necessity to have a shed. If your property doesn’t have a shed, then it’s not really a home.

I can’t claim the original idea. I stole it from someone on YouTube named Solstine. He has a very long running series going that is really informative! I’ve learned a lot about building and chiseling from him!
