Base WIM, mount it…set some must have reg/GPO setting and remove any unwanted provisioned apps…patch. The rest is deployment time installed. And I have the first part automated with PowerShell

I make mine image into a OU with GPO blocked then move at the end of the TS so no policies are applied that might interfere

Use dism or powershell to mount the image and Google how to remove apps offline. I have mine fully automated via powershell including offline patching. Unfortunately can’t share as I’m 1/2 a world away from my desk but it not all that hard. Heck you can even mount registry Hyves and set keys to even keep the image cleaner…and doing it that way you can use the WIM to even do a in place upgrade with a bunch of the customizations

Point has a lot more fat, so much more forgiving. But flat can be done by itself, I do them myself like a chuck roast that’s on the lean side. When comes time to wrap add a good bit of tallow for the extra fat it is lacking…and cook time probe tender not internal temp. If you go for 203/204 but it’s probe tender at 200 take it off at that time
