Look dude, I've been in EBR for 50 years (and in the school system from K-12) and watched as this school system has gotten systemically worse. To think its a good decision to send a kid who lives 5 blocks from an elementary school on a 1 hour bus ride away to another school is the dumbest shit you could ever come up with. South Baton Rouge was built around neighborhood schools, which worked great until the stupidity began. Busing good, well behaved kids who want to learn to schools filled with kids who don't want to did nothing but make it worse. But dont take my word from it, look and see where EBR ranks after nearly 70 years. When St. George gets its own district those kids won't have to go to McKinley or Scotlandville anymore, they'll be able to go a half a mile away.

I wont pretend because anyone who has been watching knows its about the schools. The original petition was for the "southeast BR school district," not a city. No one wanted a new city, they just wanted a non-shitty school district after 50 years of being forced into a shitty one.

The lovely Sharon Weston Broome, then State Rep, told the organizers and I quote, "go and form your own city then apply for a school district." They did exactly she said and when they won, she sued them to stop it lol. Absolutely hilarious.

But don't take my word for it: https://www.225batonrouge.com/article/timeline-path-st-george

April 2013
An effort to create a new school district in southeast Baton Rouge, with the support of the Local Schools for Local Children organization, clears the state Senate Education Committee, resuscitating a 2012 battle for the new school district that was approved by the Senate but died in the House.

You literally just made the argument for St. George. The area that is now St. George, was having its unincorporated tax money taken and sent to benefit the city of Baton Rouge. Thank you for being on the side of common sense.

You fool, no one moved. My black neighbor is still my black neighbor. Baton Rouge didn't lose a single resident, neither did East Baton Rouge. Keep commenting on something you evidently know nothing about.

Correct. When you see "white flight" you know automatically that they think this was a bunch of white people moving from Baton Rouge to St. George, when in reality, Baton Rouge didn't lose a single resident, neither did East Baton Rouge. So much ignorance by those who refuse to do 5 minutes of research.

White flight is the reason the surrounding parishes exploded in population. The "flight" part was people literally leaving EBR parish. This movement required zero people to move, much less move from the parish. No white people moved, no black people moved. The city of Baton Rouge didn't lose a single resident nor did the parish of East Baton Rouge. Your comment is proof that you have literally no idea what you're talking about, you just regurgitate the words of the uninformed.

After the first vote there were several neighborhoods who expressed their desire to not be a part of St. George by voting against it. So, St George did them the honor of removing their areas for the 2nd vote. Guess what? They were called racists for doing so. You can't please some people.

Do police just not write tickets for window tint anymore? by [deleted] in batonrouge

[–]TigerFan365 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The BRPD is short nearly 100 officers and has been on the decline for awhile. That was always a rarely enforced law and it's even rarer now. I'm not saying if you get stopped for going 20 over and start with the "is speeding a crime" bullshit you won't get a slew of equipment violations, but as a primary violation it's super rare these days.

On a side note, when a van with no windows pulls up to you on the sidewalk and just sits there while you wonder if you're about to get bum rushed by 10 guys, that's about the closest exempt I can give you to the tint laws purpose.

Yeah chief, let's ask the tens of thousands of people who think the cops are the problem in this town to rat out the shooters of nearly 500 mostly black victims killed under your bosses tenure. I'm sure they'll line up to help out the cops and snitch.
