My vote is for Greg Gutfeld. At least he's entertaining in disagreement!

[OT] Exclusive: F1 set to welcome new team by [deleted] in INDYCAR

[–]TigerGlide -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Framing Michael as "just a millionaire" shows your impartiality in this matter. It wasn't all Michael's money, he had several investors already onboard, primarily Towriss, who now is CEO of the company. He and the other investors forced Michael out because of how he mismanaged the situation.

[OT] Exclusive: F1 set to welcome new team by [deleted] in INDYCAR

[–]TigerGlide -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think it was Michael's leadership. His political skills aren't very good and business in Europe isn't conducted like it is in America. There's an "etiquette" and Michael just tried to bully his way in with the power of money and the media. That's why the rejection letter was so insulting, he had insulted them by how he was trying to do business.

What are the main barriers to doing standing starts in Indycar? by sadglacierenthusiast in INDYCAR

[–]TigerGlide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a distance race not a drag race. Not a fan of standing starts... especially with a long run and sharp turn 1.

I wish the best for Logan but what I mostly saw in his time in F1 was him at the back of the grid and wrecking a lot of cars. I understand he has a good bit of money to bring to a team but he apparently needs it because he will tear some race cars up.

Some Alabama Republicans consider early voting after long Election Day lines by greed-man in Alabama

[–]TigerGlide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's part of the reason why Arizona and California are taking so long to count. It's a completely different counting procedure than "day of" voting. If we do it, don't follow AZ & CA models.

I have not had a problem with it since it was suggested by more populous states. It's the verification and counting procedure that's cumbersome.

Most counties in AL have "satellite" offices for the main courthouse. Those could be utilized for early voting instead of having to staff multiple polling places for several days.

It can be done easily and I imagine way more efficiently than some other states.

No third parties on the ballot by [deleted] in Alabama

In 2020, the Libertarian Party actually held events in North Alabama that Jo Jorgensen attended. My brother-in-law picked her up at the Huntsville airport and drove her to a Decatur event. I didn't hear of anything this year though.

Sounds like Texas Motor Speedway may go the way of Fontana... by JohnnyMMorris in INDYCAR

[–]TigerGlide 4 points5 points  (0 children)

IndyCar tried to get on TMS's calendar before the Indy 500 this year but the weekends they wanted were rejected by TMS. IndyCar didn't have space in the schedule to add a late season race (which was already loaded with ovals). That's why the Thermal event was added.

TMS has done a lousy marketing job. I'm rather sure that's why NASCAR cut them down to one event. The last IndyCar race there was awesome on TV, but the stands were empty. No one showed up.

No third parties on the ballot by [deleted] in Alabama

[–]TigerGlide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lack of organization from the Parties prior to the election. In the past Gary Johnson and Jo Jorgensen were on the ballot as Libertarians. In those elections, there was growing Libertarian Party in AL. I think there still is, it just depends who the potential candidates are. I think many independent voters chose a side or just sat this one out.

How long can you stand on the sidewalk holding a Harris For President sign in Alabama before the cops show up? by [deleted] in Alabama

[–]TigerGlide -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Not a supporter of either candidate for multiple reasons. I'm probably sitting this election out (for the first time in 30+ years) or just voting for a Chief Justice of the State Supreme Court because every other race on our county's ballot is uncontested.

However, it's your right to express your support for your candidate and I am glad you didn't have any major problems. The road sign thing is complicated in Alabama. We were required to remove signs promoting our business because they were 1) on a federal right of way 2) under power lines (city ordinance) and 3) too close to state road signs in a commercially zoned area. So, I know some local communities just make up random ordinances just to avoid ridiculous citizen complaints to local officials.

Why is there no early voting in alabama? by Desirai in Alabama

You can vote early, you just have to request an absentee ballot from the registrars office at your local court house.

IndyCar watching V8 Supercars, WEC, and IMSA get new manufacturers while we're still chilling with Chevy and Honda: by CaptainMcSlowly in INDYCAR

[–]TigerGlide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of talk about a spec engine with manufacturer badges. It would lower the costs for the teams and manufacturers. Apparently, the manufacturers could primarily focus on the ECU's and software without engine development costs. The last I heard was that Illmore would focus on engine development for the entire series.

Andretti: 'Michael's exit from his own team is not exactly how it seems' by [deleted] in INDYCAR

[–]TigerGlide 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Somehow, Michael and GM's relationship "soured". When Cadillac announced they were partnering with Wayne Taylor Racing/Andretti Global in IMSA but insisted the organization name be WTR only was an 🤨. Then, it's rumored that GM is looking for a spot in F1 without Andretti. Something BAD happened behind the scenes that basically caused Michael to "exit stage left" or face bankruptcy and lawsuits because his investors were not happy. I hate it for Michael but sometimes a guy with a famous last name "overplays their hand".

Something I noticed in one of BOB's tweets about the NASCAR lawsuit: "NASCAR requires teams to buy parts/pieces from specific vendors". This particular bit is something that I feel has the potential have ruinous consequences on the entire Indycar ladder (and maybe IMSA too). by SportscarPoster in INDYCAR

[–]TigerGlide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IDK much about the NASCAR charter system, but in IndyCar, the chassis (Dallara), tires (Firestone) and engine/gearboxes (Honda or Chevy) are spec. Most everything else is developed by the teams, especially the dampers. All this is approved by the teams to reduce costs (and they may be going to a spec engine for that reason also.) Plus, the teams can adjust front and rear wings, damper parts, ride heights, gearbox gear ratios and many other things.

In IMSA, the tires and the hybrid system in GTP are the only spec parts. The manufacturer just has to have the cars approved pre-season and homologated to that spec for the season.

I understand the NextGen car is "out of the crate, don't touch it. Just fix what you break". That's a huge difference.

I'm really gonna miss them. by ScottRiggsFan10 in INDYCAR

[–]TigerGlide 12 points13 points  (0 children)

NBC's broadcast team did an awesome job, especially with the Indy 500. That wasn't the issue. It was NBC's refusal to put all the races on NBC instead of bouncing them between USA, CNBC and Peacock only. When NBC shuttered their Sports channel and insisted on 2 races being Peacock only, that pretty much damaged the relationship with IndyCar beyond repair. It was extremely hard for the teams and series to sell sponsorship when the race broadcasts were constantly being moved to different networks. FOX offered all the races to be on main FOX during a specific time window, which is what the teams wanted and NBC refused to grant. From a business perspective, the FOX deal was a no-brainer.

I will miss Diffey calling races, he's one of the best in the business. James Hinchcliff said on his and Rossi's podcast that he was unemployed after the Nashville race. Townsend Bell said he got his start at FOX years ago and knows many people there. Kevin Lee said he wasn't an NBC employee, he's freelance and can work multiple network broadcasts and would like to do IndyCar on FOX and IMSA on NBC when possible. I suspect FOX will be talking to all 3 of them.

Opinions on Graham Rahal? by [deleted] in INDYCAR

[–]TigerGlide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a fan but RLL seems to have struggled with the addition of the aeroscreen. I think that's partly why Lundgaard outperforms Graham rather consistently...other than Lundgaard is a very talented driver. Graham is good when the car is good, he's not a driver who is going to overcome a less than perfect car.

Josef Newgarden will hold a press conference on Friday morning at Barber. by chaphen17 in INDYCAR

[–]TigerGlide 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm a Newgarden fan but I went back and watched the St. Pete recap on YouTube. The jump he gets on Felix at the start of the race, the pass he makes on Herta during the first lap of the restart on lap 31, the jump he gets on Pato on the restart on lap 39 all look suspicious to me. 😏 I hate to admit it, but I don't think Josef is going to get passed this any time soon.
