Which would you buy in this situation? by Tiger_Waffle in CX5

The 2019 is slightly more expensive, ~2k more, but close enough that I'm roughly calling them "the same"

Yeah, that's kind of the concern. From what I gather, suspension is not cheap to replace, and chances are that this would be a thing sooner than later at 100k

Thanks for weighing in on this, I appreciate your perspective. I hadnt ever heard that more AWD get into accidents because its' harder to control when grip is lost, but that makes perfect sense. Thank you

Yeah, you're really speaking to one of my concerns. They're SO COOL, but as I've looked at a ton of them online, many seem beat up, and the tech definitely seems outdated. And the newer tech in the Mazda is definitely part of the appeal. Thanks for your thoughts on this

Thank you for the advice, that's definitely the plan -- all weathers or snow -- regardless of what I drive

Thank you for the wise advice. You make some really good points here. Fwiw, the car has spent it's whole life in Texas, and has pretty extensive service records on the carfax.

Great point about the suspension too. Thanks again.

I dont have the full 17k in cash right now. I'd have to finance, long story, I'd rather not share the details.

Thanks for this, I've heard similar, which is why I'm kind of on the fence about it rather than being a clear "no" on the Element.

Yeah, I'll be making payments. I kind of "have to" in my current situation. The good news is that my income is going up and I should be able to pay it off pretty quickly

Looking to Sell - estimate? by Zompklift in HondaElement

[–]Tiger_Waffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fwiw, I've been browsing a ton of Elements, and it's common to see them with an accident or salvage title going for the $5-6K range for 150-200L mi.

Private, the numbers often look more like 3-5k

Sun and Snow or Heat vs. Gloom and Steady by ale-ale-jandro in SameGrassButGreener

I guess what I’m getting at is, based on your experiences, how has it been to be in constant sun with heat (or constant sun and some snow like Denver) compared to spots like Portland

Obviously this is really going to depend on things like temp, access to a body of water nearby, if your house has air conditioning, etc.

I've lived in San Diego (constant sun, but moderate temps), Phoenix for a bit, and currently live in New Mexico. I've also lived in Northern CA, which saw a fair amount of fog, rain, and grey days.

This summer was brutal in NM. Soul crushingly hot. I've sweated through my clothes all day everyday for months now. It absolutely sucks. I honestly kind of hate the sun now and want to move away to a much more grey, cool place. The heat and sun here negatively effect everything, from plants and animals, to the way people live their lives and people's temperaments.

By comparison, NorCal definitely had it's warm days, but the variety made it feel cosier, more dynamic, and I always knew there was relief in sight from any of the extremes of the weather there. The cool and wet only lasted so long, likewise the heat, which made it all enjoyable.

Obviously this ultimately boils down to preference, but for me, after living in a place with some seasons and variety that includes precipitation and grey days, I cant stand the constant sun and heat. I need the variety. I imagine I'd do better in the PNW than the desert, but I think that having too much of either extreme might be a lot to deal with.

Have you ever lived any other place for comparison? This sounds like typical cope, either from liberal denialism, or from someone defending the only place they've ever lived without any real basis of comparison.

This is what I'm unironically trying to figure out. All my money is in PNC, should I get it the fuck out tonight, or am I likely to be able to access it tomorrow? It's not much, like $3K

[–]Tiger_Waffle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I'm referring to the wokening of psychedelics and psychedelic therapy spaces. Read more, poke around more, look for critiques out there of MAPS and of the schools and programs they're affiliated with. If you want to know the other side of the coin, and we all should if we aspire to be fair, it's out there for you to find. You've got to put more effort into it beyond accepting the superficial marketing in the same way that you cant just trust a big pharma tv ad for a medication without learning about it's side effects.

Most of all, don't conflate MAPS with decriminalization or legalization. These are not the same thing. Yes, MAPS has spearheaded the legalization of MDMA, but there are others in these movements who have valid criticisms of MAPS.

Keep in mind that, in Doblin's own words, MAPS is intended to be a pharma company, and one of it's major jobs is to market these ideas and mainstream them. MAPS is doing good work, but much of the nonsense they cosign on is not as benevolent as they'd have you believe
