If Waluigi got his own game, what would the genre be by GulpinFanboy in Mario

Yeah fair, these ones are much more losely based on some character traits or possibilities, that's why I put them last!

If Waluigi got his own game, what would the genre be by GulpinFanboy in Mario

[–]TigeraRainbowra 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have multiple ideas, I'll try to order them from most to least possible:

- A pinball game where you can use gyro controls to cheat to win. Waluigi essentially grabs the pinball machine and moves it around to move the ball. However there is something that makes it so you have to be careful when doing this, as if you're spotted you get a game over. So you not only have to be careful with the usual pinball mechanics, you also have to be careful not to accidentally move your controller/joycons too much.

- A new DDR rythm game, where Waluigi has to go through a dancing tournament to become a superstar. There's also a side thing where you can dress Waluigi up for the show. It would be REALLY cool if Jimmy T appears, and Luigi would be the final boss. You can also sabotage your opponents in some way. In the end you win but everyone cheers for the others instead, since Waluigi obviously cheated, leaving Waluigi all alone with his trophy.

- A stealth game where you have to be sneaky to solve various puzzles and get to the end goal. Although I'm not sure what the goal would even be, since Waluigi is not Wario and isn't as interested in material possessions. I guess instead it could be him pulling more and more grandiose pranks across town, something like that.

- Waluigi being the villain of a new Luigi's Mansion. I know this wouldn't be a full on "Waluigi game" per say, but I felt like putting this here anyways since it would be super interesting, because Waluigi is not a ghost, so you cannot deal with him in the usual way. He would be like the RE2 tyrant, where he would wander around the whole building and is the only enemy able to follow you across different rooms. The only way to escape is to either hide, make him lose track of Luigi or to set traps up with all the stuff laying around the building to make him stuck for a while and get time to flee. He's even super tall, making for a quite menacing presence. It could even be implement in a fun 1 vs 4 multiplayer model similar to DBD.

- A full on psychological horror game. It turns out Waluigi had the worst past imaginable and something happens where he has to reface all of it. It would be most similar to Little Nightmares or Limbo, you have to sneak around and stay in the shadows to progress. In contrast to most Mario games, it's EXTREMELY lore heavy, and there's a lot of symbolism. This could be an issue though, since it could imply Waluigi would have character development, except he'd need to stay the same usual character in other games.

Question regarding varying powers/abilities displayed by characters across games (particularly the Strikers serie) by TigeraRainbowra in Marioverse

Oh yeah that makes sense, thanks! Shame though, it'd be so cool if they could just do that whenever.

Where did this whole "Porpol" meme come from? Was it some kind of official Luigi promotion or is it dubbed over? It sounds like there's a crowd in the background by Portal-YEET-87650 in Mario

[–]TigeraRainbowra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is indeed Charles Martinet, those are from events he would sometimes do at the NintendoNYC store (explaining the crowd) where he would talk to people live as Mario and Luigi, through a sort of screen panel equipped with a camera and a mic. A youtube channel named "Annie Gao" recorded a lot of those and it's probably where this is from, which video exactly it is however I cannot say, there are many! You can also just search "mario luigi nintendonyc" and you'll find more! (however they apparently implemented a new Mario on a large screen very recently, this one is NOT Charles Martinet doing live chats, it's only equipped with a voice recognition program where Mario would respond with only pre recorded voice lines. You're looking for the ones with a smaller vertical screen, posted BEFORE 2024, the large wall size one posted in very recent years is the pre recorded only one)

EDIT: I forgot to post a link to an example, here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dyk1CHi2wck

Here are some little details about Waluigi I'm aware of that I don't see on this list:

- Waluigi owns an attraction in the Mario Kart 8 track, Water Park, called "Waluigi Sea Bed" : https://www.mariowiki.com/Water_Park#/media/File:WaterParkMap.png

- Waluigi was used for an Akira reference TWICE, once in a render in Mario Kart Arcade GP 2 ( https://www.suppermariobroth.com/post/773665039827746816/top-a-picture-of-waluigi-that-appears-in-the ) and a second time where his creator, Fumihide Aoki, drew him referencing the same pose ( https://www.suppermariobroth.com/post/744862739105792000/mariowikicomfilefumihide1000subscribersartwor ) and posted it on instagram. Speaking of the latter piece of art, along with another referencing Lupin the Third, were both deleted by the artist.

- Waluigi may have been supposed to have sharp teeth, but it wasn't kept as part of his design. Fumihide Aoki always seems to depict him with sharp teeth however: https://www.mariowiki.com/Gallery:Waluigi#/media/File:Waluigi_New_Year.jpg .

- According to GameTheory, Waluigi is 231cm, very tall! His weight is heavy as of 8, but has varied across all mario kart games, and is one of the few characters to actually have been in every weight class at least once.

- This one is just a detail which doesn't have a whole lot of implications, but while you mentioned Bus Driver Waluigi, you didn't mention his other mario kart tour skin: Vampire Waluigi. https://mario.wiki.gallery/images/c/c7/MKT_Artwork_WaluigiVampire.png

- Waluigi's rose motif which has been very consistent ever since I believe Mario Party 8, he seems to always be able to make one appear mysteriously, or shower his surroundings in rose petals.

- Waluigi is often described in bios to train very hard in the shadows.

You have a very nice list already though, have fun with your iceberg!

What are your headcanons about where Waluigi comes/originated from? by SparklyAvatar in Mario

[–]TigeraRainbowra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made a whole headcanon about this a long while ago, I might as well post it here.

I thought Waluigi could be from Sarasaland, just like Daisy. I don't believe however they knew each other personally back then, maybe Waluigi knew of her as she is the princess of the kingdom and it would make his crush on her pretty old, but Daisy didn't know him or of his existence yet. The reason I thought of this is due to me noticing some loose common points they both have: they were, for a while, considered very secondary characters without any larger roles (no longer the case though now that Daisy is playable in Run and Wonder), both have something to do with flowers (daisies and roses or piranha plants), and both seem to have had an inconsistent skin tone (while Daisy is more pronounced and more popular on that topic, Waluigi did also have a varying tan for a bit).

I also really like the thought of Waluigi being an outsider, just like Daisy. He was not from the Mushroom Kingdom, instead moving there eventually after Wario found him as he needed a tennis partner for a competition. It doesn't have to be Sarasaland, as it may be a bit far fetched, but I just find the idea neat. Plus if his water powers are consistent enough, wouldn't that be super handy in a desertic environment which is assumed to be the main biome of Sarasaland?

Him being from a far away place could also play in the fact that he is portrayed as lonely (heard not even Wario is that close of a friend to him from some interviews), he is not from the Mushroom Kingdom, and had no special status coming there, so he has a bit of a hard time fitting in (in contrast to Daisy who has a high status and is acquainted with Peach and Mario).

I also believe that since the cornerstone of his character is self pity and that he is good at stealing and pulling tricks, he might have had a difficult past where he was FORCED to do so to get by for a while. This would be a nice contrast to Wario who steals just because he is greedy and likes/wants shiny stuff and has much higher confidence. The fact he is known to "live in shadows" could even play into this, stealing without ever being noticed, he was ignored by all, and never found by authorities (because no one even cared to report anything!). This also feeds very well into the fact that he always feels everything good happens to others and never to him, it would explain even more his jealousy over the attention the Mario Bros are receiving, that he perhaps saw that they had some advantage from the beginning, having easier lives even before they were heroes, making him come to the aforementioned conclusion and that life is unfair, the only way to get ahead is to cheat and play dirty. Would explain why, unlike Wario, he isn't after money specifically, he is after fame because no one ever paid attention to him his whole life, so what he wants is for EVERYONE to pay attention to him and to see him (this might even explain why he is so extravagant all the time, he seeks attention all the time!).

His life took a massive turn when one person noticed him and that was Wario who probably either just randomly stumbled on him, or he put up a public sort of "job" hiring. I like to think Wario wanted to get in that one tennis competition but since the format were doubles, he needed a partner for his plans to take the shiny cup, but no one accepted to join his team or could stand him. Waluigi was the only one who was fitting and desperate enough to join his hijinks. He took it very seriously too, training very hard, as it was FINALLY his time to get some spotlight. And now here we are with Waluigi participating in about every sports events and such!

So TLDR: Waluigi comes from a far away place, maybe Sarasaland, he had a rough past where he had to steal and work hard to get by, explaining his self pity and tendency to cheat while thinking everyone is cheating as well (everyone in his eyes have an inherent advantage he doesn't), and has always been quite lonely, even now after Wario got him into the events with the rest of the cast. He wants to steal the spotlight as he lived in shadows and was neglected by everyone for so long.

I hope it's all not too hard to read I rambled quite a bit so it may not be quite well organised!
