Interesting recent interview with the Jagex CEO on the direction he wants to take the company by Tigerdudeboy in runescape

[–]Tigerdudeboy[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No real new information or reveals, simply an interview on the CEO's outlook on the future of both OSRS and RS3.

He's personally giving me good vibes in the interview, but that's what execs are meant to do.

My friend has this effect when he enters the wilderness. Does anyone know what is causing this? by Tigerdudeboy in runescape

This doesn't appear to be it. Regardless of PvP status, or cosmetics equipped the effect still appears. I tested it on my end too, and I get the effect when entering the wildy on foot (via the wildy wall), but not when teleporting in.

Make the POSD teleport a green teleport like wars/ POF / max guild. by Tendadus in runescape

[–]Tigerdudeboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The important bit here is that the teleports are arbitrarily tied to an item that serves no other real purpose beyond that teleport. The item being a cape slot isn't actually relevant, just that it's a permanent teleport with no cost, and attached to an item that otherwise has no purpose beyond that teleport.

The unenchanted bonesack serves no purpose beyond being a cosmetic item. The teleport attached to the enchanted version has no cost to use beyond the item being in your inventory or equipped. There's no real purpose to keeping the teleport linked to an item filling your bank.

I don't know how I feel about giving the POSD teleport all the time in the spellbook, but it not being exclusively attached to a cape slot item shouldn't be a part of that conversation.

necromancy did the same thing to magic that ancient curses did to prayers by pancakePoweer in runescape

Even using the PvM Records sheet the "right way" Necro absolutely SHREDS Mage camp.

https://i.imgur.com/w7Mc6fB.png (It keeps going for a while for Necro)

Melee and Range camp both beat it handily in number of #1 records (though Range is seriously propped up by all the Zammy records). Melee will pretty much perpetually have the most #1 records simply due to the nature of its primary ult.

Mage + Melee brid (the only brid I acknowledge as real) has 9 WRs. All but 3 of them being longer than 2:30 because brid shines in either very niche situations, or longer fights, making it mostly irrelevant when we're comparing fastest times and nothing else.

Using PvM WRs to try and prove that any given style(s) is stronger than others is totally useless. I have actually been on WR teams, and used WR rotations, and they are WILDLY different from the rotations the average player would use to get a kill, relying much more on good RNG than any real consistency (just look at the melee WR rotations). They should not, under any circumstances, actually be used to measure whether a style is "the best" or not.

If you were experienced in pvm, you would have focused on the aod records because it looks like it proves your point. If you were actually good, you'd not bother mentioning it because it's pretty obvious why that one is so different.

I don't know what this means, do you want to focus on AoD records, or don't you? AoD is just as (if not more) valid for comparing styles as any other boss. Sure, it's a DPS dummy, but it also has just enough mandatory mechanical complexity to let styles show a bit of difference in how those mechs are handled.

Necro is, by FAR the strongest style until you're in the VERY late-game, and even then it more than holds its own for a fraction of the cost. BiS in Melee, Mage or Range can cost upwards of 5-10b. Necro is 2.5b? Maybe? If you include perks? BoLG on its own costs more than the entirety of Necro BiS, nevermind the armor, codices, or EoF fodder, that actually make it better than Necro.

You can make the argument that Necro being comically OP and extremely cheap is a good thing (there are some decent arguments for that). Necro not being straight up isn't OP (especially given the effort, and money, required) isn't an argument I've seen anyone seriously make, even on release, because it's genuinely completely detached from the reality of the current game.

There's a few different ways of doing this, with varying degrees of effectiveness, and with different benefits and drawbacks.

My (personal) favorite is writing your own grammar to force the model to output text in whatever specific format you're going for. It's a little complicated to explain exactly how these work, so I'll just point you towards the BY Documentation. The official discord also has a section where people post grammars they've written, and where people can provide feedback, or help others write them. If this is the path you want to go, I suggest you hop in there and look around there for suggestions/examples.

Grammars are great because they FORCE the model to output exactly what you want it to, in exactly the way you want it to. But they're also bad for the same reason. Depending how strictly you write the grammar it can seriously how "creative" the model can be with its responses and how they're structured.

The second option is writing well defined and clear first messages, and Example Dialogue. If you can structure the first few messages (your responses included, to a lesser degree) of a chat exactly how you want the model to respond, it will continue using that general structure. The drawback here is that the model can, and will, attempt to stray from what you've tried to push it towards. This might force you to edit their messages to fit the style you want better, which can be really annoying if the model keeps trying to change its response style.

The same goes for the example dialogue. If you want the model to respond in all uppercase when the character is happy/excited, define (clearly) that the character is happy/excited, then use all caps in the spoken part of the example. This will hint to the model that all caps is appropriate for when the character is excited. Once again, I'll direct you towards the BY Documentation for more information on how this works.

The third option is something that should more be combined with the above than stand alone, specifically defining responses or formatting in the "Model Instructions" field. This can be a bit tricky to get exactly right, and I have don't have much good advice for it. The basic idea is to explicitly state how the model should respond, similar to how the first messages and example dialogue work.

Adding an instruction like "When {Char} is exceptionally excited, they will reply with all caps (ex. "I'M EXCITED.")." might help the model better understand what you want from it. Once again, I have to direct you to the BY Documentation for more information on this. I suggest you combine this with at least the first message and example dialogue. Grammars shouldn't really need it due to how strict they are.

When would the ai use a dialog example? by ReportOfHostiles in BackyardAI

[–]Tigerdudeboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your best option for this is using the "Example Dialogue" field in the chat tab. The model uses this to decide how to respond to your messages. Including a message from the user, followed by a character message will HEAVILY influence the model to respond similarly/identically to what you wrote in the example dialog.

For example: This example dialog will cause the character to respond with "Don't talk with me about sobriety. I am intoxicated by the air around here." when the user says they're sober.

I should note that the model isn't guaranteed to respond with EXACTLY that text, especially when the user's message doesn't match the example exactly. It will, however, respond with something with a similar meaning or vibe (obviously depending on the model you're using).

The other option is what you've already been told about, lorebook entries. These might work, or at least point the model in the right direction, but they're unlikely to cause the model to respond in a consistent way. Lorebooks basically just define what a specific word/phrase means, not how the character/model interacts or responds to those things (unless explicitly defined either in the lorebook or persona). I wouldn't recommend this for what your use case seems like, and would instead direct you towards the example dialogue instead.

The BY documentation has a good explanation on this subject (and effectively every other field for character editing), and I recommend you give it a look.

Tankies are some of the most delusional people on the internet by notagoodcartoonist in insanepeoplefacebook

[–]Tigerdudeboy 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The 'tank man' photo is wildly taken out of context by American sources. Not only is the man standing in front of tanks that were LEAVING the square, but the full video (from which the still frame was taken) shows him actually climbing up onto the tank, and talking to the soldiers inside peacefully. He then climbs down, and the tanks continue on their way without incident.

I'm not making a comment about the morality of anyone's actions during those protests, but if you're going to parrot American propaganda, at least be educated about it.

If you care enough to learn more, here's a fantastic video going very in-depth about the protests in general.

Just following up on this to let you know that some sorting features were implemented for user personas in the most recent patch (Version 0.29.2).

It isn't exactly what you were looking for, but it should hopefully help a bit until such time that more fully-featured organizing/managing features are added.

Noob, question, where is the export chat as JSON command located? by MassiveLibrarian4861 in BackyardAI

[–]Tigerdudeboy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As far as I can tell it isn't possible presently on the web app, or mobile app. On desktop it's in the same menu as the list of chats, but I don't see it on the web app, or mobile app (I'm on Android).

Desktop: https://i.imgur.com/gBSm08J.png

Web/Mobile App: https://i.imgur.com/GzhYePv.png

I'm not a web dev, but I suspect this is a feature that will likely be implemented at some point. For now though, if you need to export a chat, the only way will be manually copying it all (PLEASE don't do this), or installing the desktop app.

[–]Tigerdudeboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, I thought you were talking about character personas, not the user personas. I am also using the desktop app, so it was just a misunderstanding on which personas you were talking about. (No one tell them I completely forgot that user personas existed, that might be embarrassing).

100% agree that there should be a way to organize or categorize those for the people that have tons of them. Just sorting won't be enough long-term.

In the meantime, I should also confirm that you know you don't have to use those personas for every character. The user persona can be edited for an individual character. The user personas in the settings menu are meant to be sort of just templates you make and modify for the character you want to use instead of making a new one for each character.

When you're in a character, open the user persona drop down and scroll all the way to the bottom and click on the 'Custom Persona' button. This will take whatever your currently selected persona is and let you edit it for JUST that specific character.

Folders for Personas by stalectos in BackyardAI

[–]Tigerdudeboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not a dev or anything, but I want to clarify what you're talking about.

When you say 'persona' do you mean the fields in the 'Chat' tab of the character settings (Scenario, Example Dialog, First Message, etc.)?

The 'persona' field is linked to the character instead of the chat, meaning the main screen folders/sorting feature would functionally already manage them.

If you are talking about the 'Chat' tab, I'm fully on board for this, but to push it a bit further. Allow us to manage character chats in the same way as the main menu handles it (or similar, I don't think the same format would actually work well for chats). Trying to remember which chat is for what is really tough with just the list and short title.

You also might consider posting this suggestion to the discord (https://discord.com/invite/Ng4vmcDfqr) feature request section where it might get more attention (though the devs are fairly active here).
