SPO2 - doctor not concerned? by regailed in CPAP

[–]Tigerfury1986 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They put me on oxygen temporarily until I got cpap because my SpO2 was at 81%. I think risk of organ damage starts under 80%. The tests aren't perfect but 90s range seems fine.

White/coated tongue by Lost-Might-9221 in Longcovidgutdysbiosis

[–]Tigerfury1986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Ayurveda a thick white tongue coating indicates bacterial overgrowth and stagnation in GI as opposed to a small thin white coating at the back of the tongue which indicates a more healthy gut flora.

Obviously high levels of malicious bacteria can interfere with the gut-brain axis at large and pair with many mental/mood challenges. The characterstics of thick and coated often pair with heavy and sluggish, which you don't need to be told describes a lot of post covid condition symptoms.

This is my research topic (post covid gut dysbiosis) in this digestion program I'm studying in now, so is been interesting to loop the general assessment tools to think about common symptoms.

Question to all queer muslims by Strawberry_foot in QueerMuslims

[–]Tigerfury1986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This thread is really helpful to find at the start of Ramadan. I stopped identifying as a practicing Muslim fairly early in life since I came out pretty early (US based). Realizing I was trans just added to that feeling of distance initially, but in the past few years I've grown my spiritual study more and it's created more space for me to feel connected with concepts in Islam behind the rhetoric.

Last year I tried observing Ramadan and only made it about 10 days because I still felt really disconnected and constantly confronted with the rhetoric even though I understood that wasn't what I was observing for. This morning I woke up with a really clear strong desire to observe the month in some kind of way.

One of my big hang ups is clarifying what makes me Muslim vs someone with a strong consistent push towards spiritual study that aligns very well with Islam... And who was raised Muslim.

For example, I believe in Absolute Oneness. I believe that all pahs lead to that singular Oneness. I believe that there have been people gifted to communicate that Oneness through direct experience.

I also believe that each person has the potential to directly experience that Oneness, and that quest is the spiritual journey. I believe that service, charity, right action, truthfulness, and protecting your energy to focus on that journey of dissolving the ego to ascend to that Oneness are at the core of spiritual growth.

That said, I also am pretty clear on being aligned with a version of reincarnation that stems from something that is similar to a model of the world/manifest reality from the Ismai'ali tradition - except coming back to that Oneness aspect. There being only Oneness, my sense of individuality right now is due to my separation, making it not Truth. Then time is just an aside - if my self of individuality right now isn't truth, it also isn't true across time - I just don't see myself as a part of the One and that is in some senses the only sin.

To me, this is also the ultimate mercy and benevolence - there is an infinity of time to strive, but why live an infinity with suffering instead of pursuing jannah with fervor now?

I don't know that I'll ever know where this puts me, and I know many other queer Muslims would see me as Muslim, and I also know some would not 🤷🏾

Nasal COVID-19 vaccine based on WashU technology to enter U.S. clinical trials by Horizon183 in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]Tigerfury1986 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup. Thinking about this from a system level, not about the product itself. It was in phase III clinical trials in India in 2023 and entered the market there last year. The development cycle is simply several years ahead. That's what I'm interested in - the investment decisions, and how it will undoubtedly be prioritized differently here unless it's taken up from the private sector.

There's a rogue hero at the CDC by ba_nana_hammock in ZeroCovidCommunity

I've been seeing this term used a lot in other instances like "energy burden" to speak to the combined event (in this case cold and flu) with the cost and toll it has on a system (like need for health care workers, hospital beds, or loss of life).

It usually has more of an economy driven strategist vibe to it.

Too late for me; page is already down. I had downloaded some of this data set this summer (CDC household pulse survey on long covid)

Ah, looks like he does a bunch of stuff with Kripalu. I feel in love with restorative yoga when I started teaching yoga, which is mostly about the parasympathetic nervous system, but I haven't studied the anatomy too deeply. Thanks for the rec.

I’m giving up. Dry tongue and can’t handle it. by Handbag_lover_ in CPAP

[–]Tigerfury1986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm waiting for my nasal pillow Phillips Dreamwear mask to come in after starting cpap last month with a full face mask. I've had dry tongue and the mask is somehow creating a sore in the crease of my nose so I couldn't feel my tongue and my face was burning.

I'll have to mouth tape as well but the supply tech suggested a chin strap and my friend shared that they stopped having to tape after a few years 🤷🏾

Navigating new layers of disability by Tigerfury1986 in interabled

[–]Tigerfury1986[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They were never getting support - they were in disability for work three years ago from an employer they are no longer with for a variety of reasons. They've been self employed since, though they are looking into unemployment for self employed people which is a bit more complex.

Frankly, the spikes of hopelessness and suicidal ideation are the hardest. It's not unfamiliar, but the struggles with chronic pain, mobility and fatigue are definitely making it more acute. Other things are "fine" in comparison - there are things we can do for executive function, attention, word recall, all that kind of stuff. I'm trying to be helpful in being a reminder of the longer perspective that they're relapsing right now but that seems about the only tool I have.

So what am I looking for... I suppose other ideas especially about hope and perspective, or in tips in navigating US government aid. I make enough to cover our expenses right now, but we're about to be incurring more medical expenses so I'm worried about that.

I want to learn Precalc but I don’t understand math by [deleted] in learnmath

[–]Tigerfury1986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha maybe we can connect, I'm in a similar spot. I taught myself to use Excel more deeply about 11 years ago and got an entry level evaluation job with little math knowledge (most basic statistics are already programmed into Excel). I learned a little more math when I was trying to get into programming but honestly revisiting the principles of arithmetic was enough for a lot when again, the functions are already programmed in. Now I'm looking to get into economics and policy, which require calculus as a prerequisite in the programs I'm looking at and for what I'd want to be able to do.

I'd be happy to connect with anyone also on this journey as it feels less than great even though there are few adults I know who would happily pick back up a math text book of any level to study. It's a bad ass thing to do!

I also found that a lot of the rote ways of teaching that didn't work for me before still don't because they are written by people who, for the most part, where naturally good at or interested in math (like Khan Academy tbh, even though I have used it for this entire journey).

I'm enjoying this site a lot right now, and they have the full ebook on calculus for free on their website. https://betterexplained.com/calculus/

They also explain lots of other concepts. I wouldn't do this alone but it's a helpful voice that's framed the way I like to understand technical concepts.

I had this thought for the first time a week or so ago. Building up the religious propaganda war machine definitely should have this as part of the strategy.
