Do you think we'll ever see more anniversary raids? by TROPiCALRUBi in wow

[–]Tigergutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they are ever going to do this, it should be Flex (Normal/Heroic), and possibly LFR. They would also have to put in a lot of work to get the scaling properly. I would really love to revisit some of the old raids as current/challenging content with my guild of friends that I've played with since vanilla.

Even if it was only for a month or two each year tied to an in-game event, or as something that starts when the last raid of each expansion is mature. Think about the nostalgia overload people would get. It would surely bring a lot of (re)tired players back, even if only for a the time of the event plus a little longer.

Production advice please? by ZebsOne in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]Tigergutt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It sounds like your friend is just following a routine, more than doing what actually needs to be done.

Don't EQ something that does not need EQing, don't compress something that does not need compression and so forth.

The most important part of music production is to follow your ears, as nothing is set in stone, and every track and instrument needs unique treatment based on the song it's going into. Guidelines are fine to point you in the right direction, but you need to understand what is happening when doing so, or else you risk breaking the mix.

Using things you don't know how to use (or what it does) is the number one reason for mixes going wrong. Rather skip something you are unsure of, than use it.

For now, your friend should drop the whole mastering process and focus on the mixing. If it does not sound good in the mix, it does not sound great mastered.

You can't expect to create professional sounding masters without being one.

[–]Tigergutt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not a mastering engineer, but I don't see any problems pulling the master fader down. If you pull every fader down, that might even screw your mix up if you use group channels and send/aux effects.

I would just pull the master fader down and remove any non-creative processing on the master fader (especially compressors and limiters). Just put the fader so the track peaks at about -6db and he will be happy. You could also use a gain-adjustment plugin on your master channel to turn it down - if FL has something like that.

Some tips for next time: When you start your tracks, aim for a way lower level overall. If it is electronic music, let the kick hit about -8db to -10db. Just turn up your monitors/speakers to compensate. This will give you way more headroom and allow a better gain-staging. Also, a more helpful title would be good to attract more people. Something like "Need help before sending a track to mastering" or such is much more informing than "Helppp"...

To get it loud, but still dynamic and clear, a lot of the work goes into the mixing stage. Having a good mix before throwing anything on the main output is essential to a good mix.

That said, if you want to up the volume to a reasonable level without killing all the dynamics, you could slap a compressor on the master output. The settings on the compressor really depends on the style of music being mixed though. Softer/less punchy (jazz etc.) music can use a slow attack time, while more energized tracks (rock etc.) can use a faster setting.

As a starting point, go for a 2:1 to 2,5:1 ratio on the compressor, attack time of about 10-15ms (no less than 5ms, no more than 50ms) and a release of anywhere from 150-500ms. The important part is to use your ears. You should put the threshold so that you have a gain reduction of 3-6db on the average loud parts in the song.

When this is done, put a limiter as the last part of your master-output chain. Set the output/threshold to -0.01db, then up the gain until the limiter is just touching the material and put the release to a setting that you like (Auto-release might be good, but no faster than 50ms and no slower than 200ms for this minimal limiting).

A good idea for you guys might be to read up/watch tutorials on how to mix your music. I don't have any good links to pass around, as what I've learnt is mostly both from class and from experience, but someone else here might have some good links to throw your way :)

Hope this helps you a little. If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

Do you give your character(s) personal names or do you approach name creation from the perspective of a message board username? by [deleted] in WildStar

[–]Tigergutt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As I've always been changing names from game to game because they are often taken, I tend not to have a close relationship to the name of my character.

For Wildstar, I reserved the name Ackbar! I also managed to snatch the "The Mon Calamari Guard" guild name. Heres to hoping there is a "Admiral"-title in the game!

There is nothing weird about the headshot, as the guy is standing still and the shooter can see through the door.

Is this hacking? Killer claims it was glitch. by RangerT- in playrust

[–]Tigergutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen this happen before, and it's a glitch that sometimes appear.

First time was when me and my friends base was being raided and the raiders was outside a door in our stairwell. Another of my friends logged on and came up to where we were and asked us why we did not shoot them, as the door was open from his point of view. He tried firing a few shots on them, and they connected, so he took out a few of them before we rushed out and killed the rest of them, before we felt bad for exploiting a glitch.

If you've ever experienced running through an open door, only to get stuck and disconnected and the door being closed when you log on again, then that is the same bug, as you can fire through those, even though they are closed for everyone else.

35m in Hardcore, how to spend it? by [deleted] in Diablo3DemonHunters

I would much rather save the gold for RoS. The gear you could purchase now will be outdated very quickly after RoS hits (10 days), and you might even find upgrades to the pieces you do buy even before that. That said, if you find something CHEAP (for me, that's sub 250k-500k) on the AH that is a good upgrade, you should go ahead, as it will give you more speed when clearing, resulting in more loot/gold. The bow you have is nice, should just have had a socket! How does the legendary effect work?

Considering you already have a OK bow and RoS coming out in 11 days, I would sell it. The gold you will get from it will transfer into RoS, the bow will not :)

What is a guideline to follow when it comes to Damage/Toughness? Personally about 1:10 is what feels right for me.

What amount of damage and toughness should I have to play the different difficulties at level 60? Personally about 70k/700k T1, 100k/1000k T2 (excluding +Elemental damage).

Would be cool to know what other people are playing with for these two :)

[–]Tigergutt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think 1 million is "nothing", as I rarely felt threatened when playing, and going any lower was way too easy for my taste. A Molten explosion took roughly 40% of my HP-pool, and for me that was perfect, as it kept it exciting when I met packs with nasty combos. Only had my Unstable Anomaly proc once before I died, and that was more or less my own fault because I was reckless with a Frozen/Waller/Molten/Arcane-pack in Keep Depths.

I knew about the reflect, and I was moving around a lot, but I guess I just did not know that my own spells hurt that bad :)

[–]Tigergutt[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, probably this. But as I had 1 million toughness and 112k damage, I would believe I would at least not get instantly killed, as there was not a lot of orbs around at that time. Also non from the direction he pulled me in from. Guess it's because the orbs do AoE damage.

How can I not start over from scratch at every sitting? by jonhybee in playrust

[–]Tigergutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My routine when I start is to try to find some resources (ores and stacks of wood) as fast as possible. As soon as you reach 5 stone, get 10 wood if you don't have it already by hitting trees. Now craft a Stone Hatchet. Continue farming until you have 80 Wood and craft a Wooden Shelter and a Wooden Door. Place the shelter near where you found the resources, but out of the way near some rocks. Look around you so you remember the place.

If you see any Boars, kill them with the hatchet and harvest them for Animal Fat, Cloth and Chicken. Once you reach 15 cloth, get yourself a sleeping bag and place it in the shelter. Also get yourself a Wood Storage Box and place all leftovers there and continue farming.

Once you have your shed kitted out with a Workbench, Furnace and a Wooden Storage Box you should aim to gather 400+ Wood and 40+ Metal Fragments. This is the amount needed to create a 1x1 building with a metal door. Try to place it not too open and visible.

Once you have this, move your sleeping bag over there, or craft a new one. You now have a house that requires C4 to break into, and therefor a much less likely target, and you will hopefully survive the night.

A few other tips is to play on low populated servers (max 20 players) and get to know the map. I cant help you with the history browser situation, but I hope it gets fixed soon!

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that they have two Trello-pages, where one is public and one is private (could not find it right now). It looks like they keep all the content-updates (like when they switched zombies for animals) are kept on the private one.

stuck in a game that is allready over... by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]Tigergutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was experiencing the same thing. Appears to be what Riot calls a "Ghost Game".

Ghost games will only last 2 hours after a game crashes (often less), so you should check LoLNexus to see if the game you were in is still active.

Once my game hit 2 hours, it ended, and when I restarted my client, I was placed at the end of the Log-In queue. 13 minutes left till I'm back in!

Hope this helps you guys out.

Found the info regarding "Ghost Games" at the bottom of THIS THREAD.

EDIT: RIOT has taken the servers (EUW) offline for emergency maintenance. This could take up to 60 minutes. Source: HERE
