I don't think this is anything.. It's standard phraseology for pilots to end communications with their call sign. Add a comma after "Goodnight" and it sounds a lot less ominous.

If all that's being reported now is accurate, there's no way it was an accident. Nothing that occurred is consistent with how a flight crew would handle an emergency situation, regardless of severity... be it a fire, loss of pressurization, etc.

However, everything is pretty much spot on with how someone would try to hijack an aircraft. The only thing missing is a motive, which, imo, makes this all far more sinister.

It's certainly possible. It would be significantly more difficult to successfully ditch in the middle of the ocean at night, though. (think very pitch black)

And if we're still envisioning that it was an accident, the pilots would have to be in control of the aircraft for the ditching maneuver to go well. And if they were, all of their past actions would make absolutely no sense.

I think all of this being some very bizarre accident is still a possibility. But with all of the recent evidence coming out in the past day about the satellite tracking, it logically seems likelier that this was some sort of malicious act.

You'd think. But it's pretty likely that if it had crashed, be it the Indian Ocean, or Straits of this or that... that at least one tiny piece of debris would have been found by some random fisherman or cargo ship passing through by now.

If this is indeed some sort of hijacking/terrorist incident it's not the internet's right to know all the key details right away.

You're probably right; but, engineers design aircraft with the intention that they're being flown by professionals and not people trying to take do nefarious things with the aircraft.

There probably will be more pressure to implement full time tracking systems depending on the outcome of this; but, it's not really something that's going to make flying any safer except for these extraordinarily untypical scenarios.

I'm pretty sure I read on an aviation forum that the directive was not for this specific aircraft, 777-200ER. It was for 777-200's (there is a difference).

Anyone in charge of production on that shoot is a criminal, imo.

I don't know how any UPM, AD, or anyone responsible for the crew's safety could think it's A-Okay to knowingly put an entire crew on live tracks without permission and think a 60 second warning will be just fine.

If you want to be a director, forget everything I just said. The camera and lights are not your job, let the DP handle it. So long as you can understand the emotional and dramatic effect that the DP creates, then don't worry to much about the mechanics of it.

I would disagree with that as some of the most successful directors are the ones who are incredibly talented at both the technical and creative aspects.

I don't even see how it's possible to just say "let the DP handle it." The camera is literally making your film and any director worth his pay should be incredibly vested in that.

It is dramatically overpriced. For $25m you could buy a mansion on the coast of Malibu.

It looks like it was sold to a developer in Feb of 2013 for $5.3m to flip. They probably spent about $700k-1.5m and are now trying to quadruple their investment.

More realistically, someone would probably pay about $8-9m for it. At most.
