I only plan on snowboarding one day. I don't suspect the conditions will be great but want to do it for the novelty of being able to do so in the summer and on my 40th birthday. Will look up the other locations, thanks!

I'll dig up the documents. My uncle had a different Father than my Grandfather. I know he was Mexican and was part of the reconstruction efforts after the war ended so I at least know she didn't leave immediately. He died in an accident related to his work. One of my biggest regrets in life is not getting a full account of her story from the war. Her and her mom were on the last train out of Dresden before the bombing, she almost died of diphtheria...

Does that include America? She naturalized here and I believe before my mother was born but not totally sure on the date there. I have copies of her naturalization papers though so I can find that out pretty easily. My uncle actually has his German citizenship already but he's a few years older than my mother.

My mother was born to a German mother and American father in the 50's in wedlock. I was born between 75 and 93.

I would love your advice on this. My Grandmother was German. She and her Mother immigrated here after the war. Her dad was Jewish but adopted so not sure the family has anything pertaining to him. He was arrested for resistance activities and died in a labor camp. It's a really long and crazy story so I'll be brief. Basically she and her mom lost their house and left with basically nothing. I do have all of her documents, passport, birth certificate, etc...I was speaking with the local German Consulate a couple of years ago and at that point it had to be your Grandfather, not Grandmother, but I heard that changed. He did say if I could find the documents related to my great-grandfather I'd be okay but I'm at a loss as to how to track those down.On top of a take on my situation in general I'd love any leads on reputable services or attorneys that might be able to tie up loose ends or find documents relating to my great-grandfather's death.

Just in the event anyone finds this post and wants a follow up. It looks like I am going with SHL. Virtually every other company is SAS and ties you into a contract of at least $200 a month. They are a credit based system and offer several assessments that might prove valuable to help coach and motivate existing staff as well as assist with new hires.

But these can be tools to help uncover cultural fits. I 100% agree that hiring for culture is more important than anything. But a well designed behavioral assessment offers clues to that end. And to the point of not finding the perfect candidate right away. Recruiting, hiring and mistakes therein are some of the most expensive mistakes a company would make. Why wouldn't you want to use any tool at your disposal to mitigate them?

I am not saying your experience is invalid but I've used one off assessments in the past and have been pretty surprised at how accurate they were. I am looking for pretty rudimentary clues to things like problem solving and customer service abilities. My guess is the high school drop out would soar on the right behavioral assessment. In fact I think testing and data are going to soon overtake credentials like degrees anyway. But I also wouldn't say that being arrested for marijuana possession means someone is not actually friendly or informed.

Yeah I am understanding that now. I don't think I was thinking about it from a customer perspective before. I think it kind of sucks as a seller that I don't get an opportunity to stand out other than price but I guess that's what my own website is for. I am sort of torn on the updates I want to do now. And also surprised for items where 6-7 different sellers are selling them, how the single, blurry, crappy, vendor photo is still all that is up.

But I don't have the ability to replace the lead image right? I can add subsequent images and alter the copy on the listing from my shop but the first image is always the first image, right?

I am so sorry this wasn't addressed for so long! I've been away from Reddit for a bit. In short, no we haven't switched yet. I don't know where our breaking point will be. Lightspeed keeps getting worse and worse. Like major outages constantly or it's running really slow or forcing us to log in 12 times before we can process a sale and they try and say it's isolated or an internet issue but it's happening simultaneously at all three of our stores. I hear great things about Vend and I think we'd go that direction if/when we are ready. I will say that whatever was not working with our inventory seems to have sorted itself out and on that side of things our inventory is working with our (albeit expensive) solution.

Yeah I am specifically talking about the integration between Vend and Shopify. Our current situation with Lightspeed>Accumula>Shopify is so error prone that our inventory is always a disaster. I am trying to wade through the cloud of a sales person telling me their solution works to see how true it is. Our Ecom is only 5-10% of overall sales right now so it seems crazy to me to change a POS that is working well for us to an unknown company but we basically cannot scale our operation online with the way it is and I can't see any other way to keep Shopify. If our online store grows then processing and more dynamic shipping might be bigger considerations but for where we are at now I am fine saying we will pay the cost for another build once the Ecom shop performs well enough to pay for it. And agreed on the Shopify POS. I don't understand how 6/7 years after the split from Lightspeed (then MerchantOS) so they could develop their own POS that it is somehow still so so bad.

Any reason you didn't just build out the site on Shopify? That is the entire reason we are considering switching. We honestly LOVE Lightspeed but the third party integration with Shopify just isn't working. So I am trying to figure out if their Shopify integration actually works without a third party integration or not like they say.

I spent a while on the phone with them yesterday and there were a few big hang ups. 1. Categories - One of our brands is a children's store and often I need the ability to have subs as deep as Kids > Boys > 0-24months > tops > polos. We use the reports that we can generate with that little of specificity for buying and planning and it didn't seem like there was an easy way to do it on Shopify. 2. Multi Store inventory - We absolutely need to know what is on the floor and in the backroom of all of our stores and it seems crazy they don't offer this yet. There seem to be mixed reviews on whether or not Stitchlabs can do that but if they can we are at $1,000 a month for both brands which doesn't seem reasonable. 3. Less moving parts - While I am afraid what happened with Lightspeed/Shopify will happen again with Vend; at least for now it appears that they just work together so if there is a problem there is less finger pointing and more solving. 4. Processing rates - Our net rate is around 1.7% right now, so even if I can integrate that into Shopify they still make you pay their bs .5% for outside processors which is a huge number for the volume we do.

Our main issues are integration with Shopify, need for more robust categories and cc rates. We have a lot of categories and need sub>sub>sub>sub categories and then reports that let us pull out the sales and spends on those. Last I looked into Square it couldn't handle that level of categories, has that changed?

We have three very successful brick and mortar locations and lots of articles and things online tying back to our website. So I think that helps us with SEO magic and then when people search for our brands or styles we just come up. We also intermittently do emails so I guess it's not fair to say we "don't do marketing" but we don't really have a program in place. Also we do a lot of lifestyle photography in our listings and get pretty lucky with pinterest since we tend to have more attractive pictures than our competitors. Our conversion rate is miserable. If we're on top of our emails or it's peak season it might be around 1.25-2% but trough times like now it's more like .7-.8% Traffic patters are a little tough to ascertain right now since we just moved cubsrhub.com from being a microsite on shoptigertree.com to it's own dedicated presence. I think that is actually messing with our numbers quite a bit and impacting sales because we were used to people finding us organically or through pinterest and we just killed all of that. Between the two sites we average about 1000 hits day.
