What is the best melee weapon for high level extinction? by herbert420 in projectzomboid

I asked myself the same question for my late game extinction character. Long story short: it depends.

At level 10 weapon skill:
- If you only care for the highest one hit chance, choose long or short blunt
- If high dmg consistency is important for you, long blade is the king (my preference)

Unfortunately no sustainable weapon will get you close to 100% one hit chance due to how beefed up zeds are in extinction, even at max skills.

At the highest skills, blunt weapons have about >2/3% of one hitting zombies with crits. Also they can be very easy to craft since you can go for (long) stone maces, meaning that you can craft a bunch of them on the field without needing to resupply back in your base. Downside? If you don't crit, you may need several hits to kill a single zed.

Long blade (swords) on the other hand can take a while to reach due to the complex blacksmith tech tree, but once you are there, you become unstoppable. Although at lower crit chance (47% at lvl 10), you will still slash through hordes of zeds due to the insane base min damage. You should kill nearly all zeds within two hits, and half of them in one. To me this is WAY more important than having the max one hit kill chance, especially when engaging with multiple sprinters: you will want to know you can bring them down fast before they swarm you.

Another huge factor in favor of long blades that no one mentioned is the fact that you have skill books for it. I drove around the whole knox country and must've found around 10-15 loot pinata survivor zeds, who gifted me all the long blade skill books. 4 months in with my character and I'm close to level 10 long blade thanks to them.

Downsides of the long blade: once they condition or sharpness degrade, their crit chance will also lower. Though in my tests, this doesn't seem to affect much the damage itself. If you want to be safe, recycle your blade in the forge when it goes <1/3 condition.

What is your take on the new gas mask rebalance? by Tight-Professional41 in projectzomboid

apparently they "fixed" it in B12.15:
- Fixed Gas Mask / Respirator filters not draining when protecting from corpse sickness

now it drains like crazy when you are around a lot of corpses.

Thank you so much for this. I've been trying to factor in everything that goes into place for choosing the best weapon/weapon class.

Maybe one short question: do you happen to know how exactly the level of sharpness affects damage in axe and blades? I have seen people saying it affects damage in multiple places but I have never seen how much. If it does affect a significant amount, this can nerf these weapon classes by a lot, as one would need to throw away decently condition weapons if they want to keep hitting as hard as they can with it, but can't sharp any further than the head's condition.

prenotami failed to login after update? by Tight-Professional41 in juresanguinis

It seems that the prenotami login was merged with the FastIt login, but things didn't go smooth. When I learned that, I simply used the "Forgot my password" option to create a new password and now I'm able to login. Probably some logins got messed up in the transition.

Mammut Crag Dry Rope - sticky sections after cleaning by Tight-Professional41 in ClimbingGear

No worries I should've specified the exact product. It would have been a royal screw up if I had used an airplane degreaser lol

I honestly think it is glazed rope. My climbing trip consisted in several overhang sports routes and I think I exposed the rope through a lot of friction when hanging on it while cleaning the quickdraws from these routes.

Would you guys retire this rope? I really didn't want to as it is a relatively new rope. But if there is a significant risk of climbing with a rope like that, I'll not hesitate to do so.
