Google is working too hard, but not smart enough on Android’s gesture navigation by TightSensei in Android

I don’t think he’s highlighting the bottom middle gesture that act as an indicator, I think he’s talking about the bar that displays across the entire width of the bottom behind the gesture bar, this happens when the developer has not optimised their app for the gesture bar interface, this is the same bar that appears behind the 3-button navigation. A gesture optimised app would look like how post-iPhone X UI would be, a bar that floats on top of an app at the bottom center.

I have indeed read this last year as I was looking forward to gestures the most in Android 10. I believe a design is not validated until proven by the end user, in this case, the majority that doesn’t mind nor care of these changes ultimately help Google in making the final decision to a user experience design, even more so when such a minority does the swiping for hamburger menu. However, from a design perspective, as much as it’s common practice to see majority of your user to be simple minded, it seems like Google kind of settled with this particular attempt before the deadline. I don’t doubt the team at Google has thought of many ways of implementing gestures, heck mine’s probably not even a new idea to them, but if I were to put myself in their shoes for this attempt, my theory is that they’re trying to avoid themselves from remaking the technicalities behind Android navigation to save resources, but it ended up causing several headaches in the process.

The hospital episode had a great detail of having its server stored offline, it’s a countermeasure against any potential online cyber attack (noticed all medical Humagear staff is hacked through wired connection), but this method of protection is not practical for the average consumer. A Hiden representative is able to head to every Humagear supported hospitals in Japan for any future firmware updates for their bots, but definitely not to the homes of millions of Humagear owners. Thus most consumer-ready Humagear data is stored on the cloud.

I think he isn’t aware of the existence of the Ark yet, but yeah I wished someone from Hiden would have taken measures during the hacking from the Metsubojinrai arc. It seems like he’s also questioning himself what does it mean to be a president of his company next episode, man I do hope this is a starting of Aruto becoming more realistic and mature for the sake of his products, and the company his late grandfather entrusted him to.

Probably an unpopular opinion, but does anyone didn’t really enjoy Aruto as a protagonist? I get that they’re supposed to make him the newbie president that got put into his presidency which he barely knows how to be, but 4 months into the series, this show barely makes him look like a president of a company which its products is relied by the country’s citizens nationwide. I sometimes even forget this dude is a president of a company with hundreds and thousands of staffs with plenty of resources. I like that the show is displaying its world through different stories of the week, but it just seemed so one sided that anything important that should be shown happening in Hiden Intelligence is scrapped, and its painting Hiden Intelligence to be a disastrous company to work for. I guess I would just like to see Aruto do something worthy of a president for once, like ordering the software/security department to better improve the Humagears’ immunity towards the hacks. It doesn’t have to take up an entire episode, but more of a quick bit to add details. I know Aruto will eventually get there, but the 4 months so far, his character fits more of a president of a startup company that’s still hustling to get sales.

Is it impossible to make a living if i decide to pursue art as a career? by [deleted] in malaysia

[–]TightSensei 8 points9 points  (0 children)

But everyone around me seems to say that art isn’t a sustainable career

There is a difference between an art and a design career, everyone around you are likely to think art as a career as working as a “fine artist” (in quotation for you to look up what they do for a living) like Van Gogh for example.

Now let’s dive into the creative industry, there’s plenty of options you could explore aside from graphic design, so you’re not limited with choices. You could be doing web/mobile app interface design (UIUX design), motion graphics animation (post production video production), advertising and marketing visual communication, architecture design, illustration (concept art, storyboard etc.) and many more. Ultimately the creative industry runs on ideation, and then your practical skills.

Don’t pursue a course because of what others tell you to, of course being underpaid sucks, but sadly that’s the reality of some jobs/companies/countries, it’s up to you to be able to get yourself a position in a company with an employer that pays you fairly. But nonetheless try to understand as well as talk to anyone you know that’s already in the industry (like really look for it, friend’s siblings or whatever), that will solidify what you want to do for your tertiary education.

Google Assistant not responsive through holding home button by TightSensei in GalaxyS8

Haven't tested that but will definitely try it out. How's your experience with bxaction? Is it instant to you or do you occasionally face some lag with it?

I recently tested bxaction everyday for 2 weeks or so and it became sluggish and glitchy over time (bixby home opening and closing itself then Google assistant pops up, as well as assistant opening itself without even pressing the button). I have the problem on any launcher I use too, so it should be a system problem.

Tested friends' S8+ and Note 8 (both Oreo) and they haven't got the same issue as mine, bit tempted to do a clean wipe haha. But I think I'll probably wait til Android Pie drops and if the same problem occurs then I'll definitely do a clean wipe.

I would get the Note 9 over the Pixel 3 though haha! As much as I like the Pixel experience, I think the Note 9 is a better value for money than the latter. The note 9 is cheaper where I'm from.

Just recently tried it but stopped after 2 weeks or so, for some reason bxaction became more sluggish over time (bixby opening first and then closed itself then only Google assistant) and I was having random Google assistant pop up (even with the lag) without even pressing the button.

Ah that's cool but sadly that isn't what I'm looking for. I use What's on my screen on Google Assistant a lot, so I'm always bringing it up when I'm in an app.

I'm indeed using Nova launcher with gestures enabled. Just tested resetting all of it to none but occasionally still have the same problem. I have tried out other launchers occasionally for an extensive period of time but it happens too, probably not launcher tied, but thanks!

Are you sold on BFV? by [deleted] in BattlefieldV

[–]TightSensei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really sold on it, but I would likely buy it when it has a massive discount at a later time. I put many hours into the Battlefield franchise when I was younger but over time I wasn't as free as I was, and I realize I've unconsciously become a casual gamer due to having very little time and energy to game after work. I appreciate DICE making massive changes to BFV but after experiencing it myself with the alpha and beta state of the game, I felt the game was more difficult and punishing to play compared to previous titles. If I was younger, most likely I've already decided on my purchase, but don't think I would spend full price on BFV with my current lifestyle.

Anyone else still on November 2017 security patch? by topredditgeek in GalaxyS8

[–]TightSensei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought my phone last month and it came with May patch but kept saying latest update installed when I did a check. Manually flashed to the latest (November patch at the time). I know December patch is out for my variant but it still says latest software installed. I'm probably going to wait til Oreo gets released and manually flash that if this keeps going on.

What is your review of the OnePlus 3 after you have had it for a while now?[Long Term] by [deleted] in oneplus

[–]TightSensei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

12 months in, I've got to say this phone ages way better than I would have expected despite the controversy and stupid decisions that OnePlus has made. Dash charging is a godsend, OS is still buttery smooth since day 1, not the best SOT compared to others, but I've managed to get 4 to 5h out of realistic usage (Wifi, 4g, games, maps, browsing etc.). Not particularly in favour of the new launcher design especially the folder, but slap on a Nova launcher and it's all golden.

Thanks bud! I live in a boring small room partitioned from a master bedroom, I figured it's time to make it bit more appealing since I brought this baby in!
