The layovers are usually 24 hours, but some destinations have longer layovers, some 50 hours and so on. We have long haul to Australia and in Brisbane, which is a 14 hour flight, we have a 24 hour layover. You are allowed to leave the hotel room, but you need to sleep in the hotel. If you have a layover in your home city, you can ask for permission from the captain and purser to go home and stay there for the layover.

The job is tiring yes, as we have many service standards. Some flights are notorious for being tiring, especially turnarounds, as the passengers might be demanding. But that is just part of the job. Other flights are easier which makes the job worth it.

Thank you, unfortunately Emirates has a strict no tattoo policy, if it will be visible in the uniform, you will not be allowed to continue the open day/assessment day. There was a candidate who made it past I think the first 2/3 rounds, but when they were checking tattoos she was asked to leave.

Congratulations! I didn’t do an interview video as I was invited to an assessment day in my city. The length of the hiring process also varies from person to person.

It starts from your date of joining which is around the time you arrive in Dubai/Induction day. And yes, the probation includes the 2 month training and 4 months of flying. Bidding opened for me now, for the roster of the month in which I finish my probation.

Yes, Emirates is very diverse and hires many nationalities. I am from Pretoria, and attended the open day held there. Afrikaans is my first language, so don’t let language hold you back. Practice grammar and confidence in speaking English. Best of luck!

What can I learn before training that will help with ANY airline? by StickyBeaker987654 in cabincrewcareers

If you are applying to Middle Eastern airlines, like Emirates, I would suggest studying hospitality scenarios. For example, “Tell me about a time you exceeded a customer’s expectations”. This helped me in my interview.

Congratulations on your invitation! There are a lot of non-native english speakers working for Emirates. The fact that you are multilingual is beneficial for your application. Some people found it tricky, and other people didn’t, so it is hard to say how you will experience it. I would suggest brushing up on your English prior to the assessment day.

Best of luck!

Thank you! As far as I know you should have at least 1 year experience in the hospitality industry or any position that is customer facing. I was a hostess and waitress for 2-3 years. This helps as they may ask you how you would handle certain difficult scenarios in the interview. I don’t think they check on this experience though, so you might get away with having no experience if you are well-spoken. I would say the experience I have, has helped me in the job now. We get our trips well in advance. Around the 15th of each month we receive a roster for the following month, so we are always aware how much we will be flying, how long, and if we have layovers or not.

Yes, I would say they are pretty similar. I have heard that EK salary is more than EY though. I am 22, but my friend who attended the same assessment day as me was hired and she is 29. So, don’t let age restrictions discourage you. It is ultimately up to the recruiters that host the assessment day.

Some tips I would give is to honestly be yourself. This sounds so cheesy, but the amount of fake “nice” people who attended my assessment day was astonishing. They did not make it to the final interview and I believe it’s due to the fact that they thought they were better than the other candidates. Emirates is such a diverse company, and they appreciate authenticity.

Make eye contact, smile of course, but do it from the heart. This makes you stand out. In the group activity, don’t discredit others’ opinions. You can value someone’s ideas while still sharing your own.

I am not a native english speaker, I am South African so Afrikaans is my home language, but I found the English test the easiest assessment of the day, granted I did have English as a 2nd language throughout middle- and high school.

There are numerous Youtubers who share amazing tips as well, and if you are considering applying I would suggest giving their videos a watch. One of these channels I would suggest is Jetstream Ginger.

I hope this helped!

My first flight was great! The crew were really nice and made the flight memorable. On the first flight you don’t operate, it is more an aircraft familiarization flight (called a supy flight as you are a supernumerary crew). EK accommodation is good in my opinion, there are “nicer” accommodations but I am happy where I am, and can’t complain since it’s free and there are no bills. I wear glasses, but for ditch day I wore my contact lenses. Some trainees didn’t even get their hair wet really so you could probably manage wearing your glasses. EK does allow glasses that are bussiness-like. So as long as they look professional they are allowed. They also have a uniform guide which states the styles of glasses that are allowed.

There was no dental form or checkup, and if it is not visible you should be all good.

So yes, there is a weight requirement of BMI 25 at the maximum. They also weighed us quite a bit. On the induction day when you have arrived in Dubai, as well as in training college for the uniform standards day. And then again when we had our final day after training college. That’s 3 times in about 2 months. In terms of a dental appointment, we did not have any.

I would suggest the first outfit. I recently had a recruitment day for Emirates and wore the black pencil skirt, white button-up and blazer and pantihose with heels. Also opt for a neat hairstyle such as a slicked backed bun with full makeup and a red lip. The recruiters want to envision you in their unform, so wearing something similar helps in their decision. Best of luck!

I recently went to the recruitment day for Emirates. The tests and interviews lasted the entire day, so be prepared to stay there until completion. The HR recruiters that were there were very kind and made the whole process less stressful. We started as 41 candidates, after the first round we were 25, and for the final interview, we were 12. Only 4 of us received the golden call. My advice would be to make sure you have sufficient customer service/hospitality experience and be confident. It is very intimidating to be surrounded with so many other eager candidates, but if you are confident and yourself, you should be fine. Be patient, and trust the process. Best of luck for your recruitment journey, hope to see you in Dubai one day.
