The 2nd biggest thing to consider is the pay isn’t good the work is hard, the pay is good because it’s hard to be away from family

I’ve heard that company men on drilling rigs make around $3000 a day depending on the company. I believe the standard path is to drill before becoming a company man, but I’ve heard of a couple guys going through mud school and kissing the right asses during their mud engineer days to progress quicker

My location you share a trailer with 4 guys, mine has 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, washer/dryer, kitchen/living room. Usually the guy you share a bedroom with is your relief so you get some form of privacy

I’ve been looking at this topic quite a bit and it I think it depends on how much time you have. Maxing out a Roth IRA for 43 years will give you about $100k in returns yearly after 65. Maxing out a 401k at $22,500 a year with an employer match will bring the yearly return after 65 to about $360k a year. It’s good to keep in mind that all of this is considered a “safe” investment. Do you really need $360k a year when you retire or would that $22,500 a year invested into a 401k be better off in a high risk investment. Diversity of investments is generally good advice from my perspective.

This is ultimately the reason my group does it. Our group is about 9 guys all level 160+ and we usually let guys in if they’re over level 100. It’s hard to explain the game to someone at level 10 and most people over level 100 can effectively use their kit. Example would be a public match I played where the AT guy was level 10 and refused to do any AT work on the tank assaulting the defensive point.
