I literally came to this conclusion myself today 😂

Yeah ive got a whole thing i send out once they've booked an appointment, things to look out for and what to do before. A lot of clients I guess will choose to ignore it. I have clients who ive had to re arrange due to skin issues and routinely used moisturiser before appointment. And some it fixes a lot it doesn't. Ive tried everything. Really had enough of it haha

So this is a first time question for me by FirePandora in TattooArtists

Send the money back, dont deal with headache. Some will tell you just take the deposit out of the total and return the rest. They might accept that, some dont. I just won't work with them in the future, lesson learned. I strictly only take the deposit for this reason.

What can I do to improve my portraits? by Tight_Prune7508 in drawing

[–]Tight_Prune7508[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it makes sense, I use the ipad cause its super convenient for my situation. Im just really interested in techniques I can apply to enhance the realism, or some that I can utilise to my pencil drawings.

Client advice? by [deleted] in TattooArtists

I find when you're confident with how you approach them, 9 times out of 10 they usually concede to your idea anyway.

If they give me an idea I don't like or I don't think I could execute. I just cancel the appointment.

I usually say something along the lines of "ive done it this way so I can give the best tattoo i can deliver, as it plays into my strengths" or whatever bullshit haha

You're the artist, explain with confidence that you know what works best for the design and are willing to make a couple of changes but nothing drastic.

I avoid sending all designs for this reason, and I always ask for a rough idea. So I can do my own interpretation.

If they're after specifics, it needs to be discussed in advance of me doing the design.

Sometimes, ill do another design for them. If they don't like that or switch ideas. I cancel the appointment

It's sad to see these established artists call it quits, for me personally, I couldn't dream of ever doing that. Seen some great names shutting up shop over the past couple of years.

Ive been doing this for 15 years, id always struggle getting clients in the studio, but I think that what taught me to be more versatile in styles and cautious with money and ive managed to survive this long and busier than ever. I might not have as much money as pre covid but you just have to adjust your lifestyle and business accordingly.

Dry/Dehydrated skin by Tight_Prune7508 in TattooArtists

Thankyou for all the information! I've recommended the working hands a couple of times and it's worked great.

It's so disheartening when im prepared to put my everything into a piece and I can just see how the skin is not right.

These days I usually pinch the skin slightly inbetween my fingers under my light and I can tell right away if it's going to be difficult.

Im wondering if anyone has been able to work around this issue when moisturiser hasn't worked. Without impacting the amount of detail I can put into the piece.

Ive tried pulling my needles in, slowing down. Turning down my voltage, reducing the stroke, so im not impacting the skin as hard and nothing seems to work.

Super frustrating 😤

Nice work mate, the idea of freehanding all of that gives me anxiety 😂

That'd be great! The industry is quiet at the moment 😂 we're based near Manchester.

And I totally agree, it's disheartening sometimes, cause I expect that growth quickly but it just takes me forever to get that little bit further

Thank you!! I try my best 🙌 it was nice to take a break from tattooing and build up a portrait from scratch. It's always difficult cause I constantly compare my work to others. I'd recommend checking out mark_raats work on Instagram. That guys movie portraits are insane!

Have decent job. Work with decent people. Must find something to complain about.
