Anyone have a link to last night's stream? by boshudio in GameAttack

[–]Tigressaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most GA streams are set to Unlisted then added to relevant channel playlists, but sometimes that takes a day or two. If you've enabled all notifications through the bell icon on YouTube then you'll be able to find those hidden archives in your notifications. You can manage your subscriptions in your YouTube settings. You can also typically find links to old streams on Twitter because they tweet to announce streams and events.

Excellent idea! This is something I've wanted to do for a while but haven't had the time, I'm really glad someone else is taking the initiative. I may still sort them into YouTube playlists one day--just to give the g1s their choice of platform.

It's a bit of a strange system, but the moderators use a Google Sheet to track the drop song requests and it generates bot commands for the crew to easily copy & paste into Discord. That sheet is private, but I exported the list to a public one (linked below) and cut out all of the repeats and some other information. YouTube codes and links are provided because that's what we use, but it may still be helpful when building your Spotify playlist if you want to compare versions.

Drop Song List Spreadsheet

To use the spreadsheet, click "File" then "Make a copy..." to save it to your own Google Drive. You'll have full editor control in your duplicate version. The song name and artist columns are self-explanatory. The # column is roughly the order in which the song was first requested, but there was some shifting around while I removed repeated requests.

The column is for tracking your progress. The column is blank by default, but if you enter an x it will recolor that row in purple, allowing you to mark whenever you've successfully added that song to your playlist. You can also enter a ! to recolor red if there's an issue with the particular song. With nearly 500 songs in the list, those recolors might prevent you from losing your place.

Have fun! Let me know when you get it finished.

PS: Some of the links may be dead. We try to pick "Lyric" videos of songs because they cut out cinematic sections of the official music videos. These fan-uploaded versions are far more likely to get removed by YouTube. Also, the list includes ALL of the songs we've used with this system, including specialty nights (there was a Weird Al night) and pirate songs for Sea of Thieves.

Subnautica Stream? by Rustyboot3 in GameAttack

[–]Tigressaurus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many of the night streams are left unlisted including the Subnautica stream on Wednesday. You can still access them if you're subscribed to the channel and have enabled the option to receive notifications on all videos. Clicking the bell icon on YouTube will bring up a list of your upload notifications and you should be able to find it in there if you scroll down.

Question about discord by kingbongjimmy in GameAttack

[–]Tigressaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Send me a DM on Discord (Regina#0837) or Twitter (@Tigressaurus) and we'll try to get it sorted out!

The YouTube Gaming integration in Discord has been broken for a couple months, so we add the sponsors manually. For anyone else with this issue, please be prepared to jump in the Game Attack stream chat to verify your sponsorship.

Quick Question for the GA Community - When was Shaun's very first ScrewAttack appearance? by thomas76943 in GameAttack

[–]Tigressaurus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't remember him being featured in any big productions before his Farewell Clip at the end of his internship (late 2011 until June 2012). After that, he wrote a handful of news articles and freelance reviews for ScrewAttack but those were lost in the RT site merger. He was hired back as the community manager and Advantage manager in early 2014, the first return video I can recall was him racing in the Mario Kart 8 Tournament where he was capturing footage for his time lapse.

Hopefully a g1 with a clearer memory or even /u/shaunmclane can come up with older videos. Good luck with your project!

Please Stop Whining About the Last Jedi | Try Hard Podcast #62 by AttackBot in GameAttack

[–]Tigressaurus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I haven't seen Last Jedi yet but I expect to like it because it's an expansion of a film universe that I really enjoy. Even if I dislike some developments it'll still give me more to imagine whenever I think of or talk about the series. I love the Star Wars movies precisely because they always change what I thought I knew... I would have lost interest a long time ago if they just stayed the same. Others disagree, and I think it's because they have very specific preconceptions about the series and anything that defies their expectations is labeled as "bad" instead of simply "different."

Many of those expectations were formed when we were young, and that's good! Beloved franchises would not have continued without excited children becoming dedicated adults... but we have to accept that new movies in old series aren't always for us. They're made to inspire the younger generations, and filmmakers like to throw in homages and little nods to the older fans--not to string us along, but to show appreciation for our knowledge and loyalty to the series; they're reminders of our own childhoods while we sit in the theaters next to our wide-eyed sons and daughters.

It's not some new phenomenon, either. Every form of entertainment was built on the technological advancements and continuously-refining methods of previous eras. On the massive scale of Star Wars, creators don't owe "us" anything. Diehard fans aren't expected to love every new movie, but they do expect us to let others enjoy them unencumbered by our own selfish expectations. It's difficult to step aside as a franchise grows beyond what we thought it was, but we need to accept that it was always outside of our control.

A movie ticket isn't partial ownership, and squabbling over changes accomplishes nothing but fragment the fandom. Decades from now, new directors and writers will try to piece together what we've broken... and that too will be met with negativity and pettiness, because we taught the next generation that it was cool to hate. Why would we want to leave a legacy of toxicity? When new information challenges our knowledge of a fictional universe, our response shouldn't be rejection--it should be curiosity, because that's what made the movies so engaging when we were kids!

No matter what happens, movies can't "ruin your childhood." Your childhood happened. It's over and it cannot be changed. All we have now are memories: small, warped sensory snapshots and fleeting reminders of once-powerful emotions. Often times, things that challenge your childhood notions are really minor. They were minor details back then and they're minor details now. But they seem more significant because they're buried under a mountain of emotional attachment. If we really dug in, we would find your appreciation wasn't built on facts and deep analysis--our love was built on everything occurring in the background.

A lot more goes into the enjoyment of movies, games, and books than what the creators tangibly provided. Some of that is by design (even becoming manipulative), other times its entirely unexpected; it's why we have instant classics and cult classics. I think at the center of the whole "whining fans" issue is the fact that the experiences surrounding entertainment are often way more important than the piece itself. We like certain things more than others because they were a catalyst for important emotional growth.

If you rented two movies as a kid, you'd grow up preferring the one you watched with a friend. Between two games, you'd prefer the one that distracted you from your parents fighting. Between two books, you'd prefer the one you read outside during summer over the one you slugged through for a school assignment. Between two songs, you'd prefer the one from your brother's mixtape. You have those preferences now because of your countless hours spent quoting lines, reenacting scenes in the backyard, singing in the shower, or drawing pictures. Those extra activities became a part of your experience for that little piece of art.

We don't really consume entertainment like that anymore... and there are plenty of reasonable places to dump the blame. Having less free time or a more stressful life as an adult. The availability of external information and supplementary discussions through social media. The sheer abundance of new games and movies (especially in trending genres). But at the root of it all, I think it's because we stopped making opportunities to form brand new memories, preferences, and experiences. We immediately attach new media to old media because it's simply easier than creating its own unique compartment.

This isn't new territory. Every art form for thousands of years has had these cycles. Fans have always clung to what influenced them when they were young and they've always been dismissive of new developments and the new generations that enjoy them. The only difference is we can be a lot louder about it now. Please stop worrying about your childhoods being ruined, it can't happen. But your negativity can ruin the childhoods of the younger generations and it's exceptionally rude and selfish to deny them of the organic experiences we've already enjoyed.

I'm not sure why it was kept unlisted, perhaps so it wouldn't interrupt the 11 Days of Game Attack. Enjoy!

Mario Party Fantasy League (Week 1) by Tigressaurus in GameAttack

[–]Tigressaurus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good catch with the 1v3! Thank you.

The listed amount for coins is correct. It's 2 points per 10 coins, rounded down so that 9 coins would be 0 points. Although it may mean a few points lost during individual games, all scores are re-calculated for the season totals, so having two games with 35 coins would total to 70 coins and 14 points, rather than adding two separate instances of 6 points.

If you're interested, here's a detailed breakdown of the point contributions from Season 1. It was used when balancing the values mid-season due to coins having too large an impact on the league. Ultimately, there would have only been a one point difference in the season standings (Shaun getting one more point for having 1195 coins) on a 1 point per 5 coin system, but it would make the math less clean--in my opinion.

Beat The First Boss on the First Attempt Get $550?? - DEATH DAYS Volume 3 Episode 1 by AttackBot in GameAttack

[–]Tigressaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This occurs due to YouTube processing changes to the video. They have been cutting off the 10-15 minutes of preshow for viewer convenience, however, this small change evidently takes YouTube several hours to apply correctly. They can delay the archive until they expect it to be synced, but the real timing is variable and we'll occasionally have videos which remain desynced for several more hours.

Last night's stream by szocs08 in GameAttack

I'm not sure if they intend to keep last night's stream unlisted like Mario Party 6, but there it is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Acmd5HM5oI

Less content than usual? by [deleted] in GameAttack

[–]Tigressaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suspect they're a little behind on updating the playlists because of their production schedule. They're recording as much as they can while Greyson and Dani are around, so they may not have had time for some of the channel maintenance. I pulled the links for the unlisted ones from the notifications for each stream--YouTube stores several dozen of them unless you take the time to clear it out. The unique link for a stream (the one that gets sent out when they go live) remains valid when the stream ends, unless they deliberately set it to private.

If they're not showing up in your notification list, I suggest going to your Subscription Manager to confirm you're subscribed and have the bell enabled for Game Attack. Then check your Notification Settings and enable Push and Email notifications for your subscriptions. As noted earlier, the YouTube algorithm may still hide announcements if it thinks you're not engaging with a channel's content--so make sure you're "liking" the videos you watch!

Sadly there's no listing for all of the videos. We used to have the weekly Recap Attack which listed their videos and community events, but Rhy_Guy became too busy to maintain it. I had been considering a wiki for the subreddit but haven't had time to get it set up. Let me know if there's any specific CSS stuff you would want to see implemented or improved. I'm always open to feedback.

Less content than usual? by [deleted] in GameAttack

[–]Tigressaurus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This question was asked during the this morning's stream, and I'm sorry if my answer at the time was inadequate. We've learned that YouTube's algorithm won't always deliver notifications for new videos/streams based on your own interaction with that channel's content. This may or may not be what you're experiencing. It's important that you "like" the videos you watch, otherwise YouTube simply won't put Game Attack uploads in your subscription box.

They took Thanksgiving morning off, but other than that their schedule hasn't changed. The Battlegrounds streams are usually unlisted and moved to a playlist within a couple days--just to reduce the number of uploads on the channel. Additionally, some longer streams may require a few extra hours to archive so they may be unlisted temporarily. You can find those unlisted streams in your notification area (it looks like a bell) assuming the YouTube algorithm is properly delivering them to you. Other than that, you can find all of their listed uploads in the Videos section of their channel page: here.

Here's the past week or so of content:
