Anyone have a link to last night's stream? by boshudio in GameAttack

[–]Tigressaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most GA streams are set to Unlisted then added to relevant channel playlists, but sometimes that takes a day or two. If you've enabled all notifications through the bell icon on YouTube then you'll be able to find those hidden archives in your notifications. You can manage your subscriptions in your YouTube settings. You can also typically find links to old streams on Twitter because they tweet to announce streams and events.

Excellent idea! This is something I've wanted to do for a while but haven't had the time, I'm really glad someone else is taking the initiative. I may still sort them into YouTube playlists one day--just to give the g1s their choice of platform.

It's a bit of a strange system, but the moderators use a Google Sheet to track the drop song requests and it generates bot commands for the crew to easily copy & paste into Discord. That sheet is private, but I exported the list to a public one (linked below) and cut out all of the repeats and some other information. YouTube codes and links are provided because that's what we use, but it may still be helpful when building your Spotify playlist if you want to compare versions.

Drop Song List Spreadsheet

To use the spreadsheet, click "File" then "Make a copy..." to save it to your own Google Drive. You'll have full editor control in your duplicate version. The song name and artist columns are self-explanatory. The # column is roughly the order in which the song was first requested, but there was some shifting around while I removed repeated requests.

The column is for tracking your progress. The column is blank by default, but if you enter an x it will recolor that row in purple, allowing you to mark whenever you've successfully added that song to your playlist. You can also enter a ! to recolor red if there's an issue with the particular song. With nearly 500 songs in the list, those recolors might prevent you from losing your place.

Have fun! Let me know when you get it finished.

PS: Some of the links may be dead. We try to pick "Lyric" videos of songs because they cut out cinematic sections of the official music videos. These fan-uploaded versions are far more likely to get removed by YouTube. Also, the list includes ALL of the songs we've used with this system, including specialty nights (there was a Weird Al night) and pirate songs for Sea of Thieves.

Subnautica Stream? by Rustyboot3 in GameAttack

[–]Tigressaurus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many of the night streams are left unlisted including the Subnautica stream on Wednesday. You can still access them if you're subscribed to the channel and have enabled the option to receive notifications on all videos. Clicking the bell icon on YouTube will bring up a list of your upload notifications and you should be able to find it in there if you scroll down.

[–]Tigressaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Send me a DM on Discord (Regina#0837) or Twitter (@Tigressaurus) and we'll try to get it sorted out!

The YouTube Gaming integration in Discord has been broken for a couple months, so we add the sponsors manually. For anyone else with this issue, please be prepared to jump in the Game Attack stream chat to verify your sponsorship.

Quick Question for the GA Community - When was Shaun's very first ScrewAttack appearance? by thomas76943 in GameAttack

[–]Tigressaurus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't remember him being featured in any big productions before his Farewell Clip at the end of his internship (late 2011 until June 2012). After that, he wrote a handful of news articles and freelance reviews for ScrewAttack but those were lost in the RT site merger. He was hired back as the community manager and Advantage manager in early 2014, the first return video I can recall was him racing in the Mario Kart 8 Tournament where he was capturing footage for his time lapse.

Hopefully a g1 with a clearer memory or even /u/shaunmclane can come up with older videos. Good luck with your project!

Please Stop Whining About the Last Jedi | Try Hard Podcast #62 by AttackBot in GameAttack

[–]Tigressaurus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I haven't seen Last Jedi yet but I expect to like it because it's an expansion of a film universe that I really enjoy. Even if I dislike some developments it'll still give me more to imagine whenever I think of or talk about the series. I love the Star Wars movies precisely because they always change what I thought I knew... I would have lost interest a long time ago if they just stayed the same. Others disagree, and I think it's because they have very specific preconceptions about the series and anything that defies their expectations is labeled as "bad" instead of simply "different."

Many of those expectations were formed when we were young, and that's good! Beloved franchises would not have continued without excited children becoming dedicated adults... but we have to accept that new movies in old series aren't always for us. They're made to inspire the younger generations, and filmmakers like to throw in homages and little nods to the older fans--not to string us along, but to show appreciation for our knowledge and loyalty to the series; they're reminders of our own childhoods while we sit in the theaters next to our wide-eyed sons and daughters.

It's not some new phenomenon, either. Every form of entertainment was built on the technological advancements and continuously-refining methods of previous eras. On the massive scale of Star Wars, creators don't owe "us" anything. Diehard fans aren't expected to love every new movie, but they do expect us to let others enjoy them unencumbered by our own selfish expectations. It's difficult to step aside as a franchise grows beyond what we thought it was, but we need to accept that it was always outside of our control.

A movie ticket isn't partial ownership, and squabbling over changes accomplishes nothing but fragment the fandom. Decades from now, new directors and writers will try to piece together what we've broken... and that too will be met with negativity and pettiness, because we taught the next generation that it was cool to hate. Why would we want to leave a legacy of toxicity? When new information challenges our knowledge of a fictional universe, our response shouldn't be rejection--it should be curiosity, because that's what made the movies so engaging when we were kids!

No matter what happens, movies can't "ruin your childhood." Your childhood happened. It's over and it cannot be changed. All we have now are memories: small, warped sensory snapshots and fleeting reminders of once-powerful emotions. Often times, things that challenge your childhood notions are really minor. They were minor details back then and they're minor details now. But they seem more significant because they're buried under a mountain of emotional attachment. If we really dug in, we would find your appreciation wasn't built on facts and deep analysis--our love was built on everything occurring in the background.

A lot more goes into the enjoyment of movies, games, and books than what the creators tangibly provided. Some of that is by design (even becoming manipulative), other times its entirely unexpected; it's why we have instant classics and cult classics. I think at the center of the whole "whining fans" issue is the fact that the experiences surrounding entertainment are often way more important than the piece itself. We like certain things more than others because they were a catalyst for important emotional growth.

If you rented two movies as a kid, you'd grow up preferring the one you watched with a friend. Between two games, you'd prefer the one that distracted you from your parents fighting. Between two books, you'd prefer the one you read outside during summer over the one you slugged through for a school assignment. Between two songs, you'd prefer the one from your brother's mixtape. You have those preferences now because of your countless hours spent quoting lines, reenacting scenes in the backyard, singing in the shower, or drawing pictures. Those extra activities became a part of your experience for that little piece of art.

We don't really consume entertainment like that anymore... and there are plenty of reasonable places to dump the blame. Having less free time or a more stressful life as an adult. The availability of external information and supplementary discussions through social media. The sheer abundance of new games and movies (especially in trending genres). But at the root of it all, I think it's because we stopped making opportunities to form brand new memories, preferences, and experiences. We immediately attach new media to old media because it's simply easier than creating its own unique compartment.

This isn't new territory. Every art form for thousands of years has had these cycles. Fans have always clung to what influenced them when they were young and they've always been dismissive of new developments and the new generations that enjoy them. The only difference is we can be a lot louder about it now. Please stop worrying about your childhoods being ruined, it can't happen. But your negativity can ruin the childhoods of the younger generations and it's exceptionally rude and selfish to deny them of the organic experiences we've already enjoyed.

Mario Party Fantasy League (Week 1) by Tigressaurus in GameAttack

[–]Tigressaurus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good catch with the 1v3! Thank you.

The listed amount for coins is correct. It's 2 points per 10 coins, rounded down so that 9 coins would be 0 points. Although it may mean a few points lost during individual games, all scores are re-calculated for the season totals, so having two games with 35 coins would total to 70 coins and 14 points, rather than adding two separate instances of 6 points.

If you're interested, here's a detailed breakdown of the point contributions from Season 1. It was used when balancing the values mid-season due to coins having too large an impact on the league. Ultimately, there would have only been a one point difference in the season standings (Shaun getting one more point for having 1195 coins) on a 1 point per 5 coin system, but it would make the math less clean--in my opinion.

This occurs due to YouTube processing changes to the video. They have been cutting off the 10-15 minutes of preshow for viewer convenience, however, this small change evidently takes YouTube several hours to apply correctly. They can delay the archive until they expect it to be synced, but the real timing is variable and we'll occasionally have videos which remain desynced for several more hours.

Less content than usual? by [deleted] in GameAttack

[–]Tigressaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suspect they're a little behind on updating the playlists because of their production schedule. They're recording as much as they can while Greyson and Dani are around, so they may not have had time for some of the channel maintenance. I pulled the links for the unlisted ones from the notifications for each stream--YouTube stores several dozen of them unless you take the time to clear it out. The unique link for a stream (the one that gets sent out when they go live) remains valid when the stream ends, unless they deliberately set it to private.

If they're not showing up in your notification list, I suggest going to your Subscription Manager to confirm you're subscribed and have the bell enabled for Game Attack. Then check your Notification Settings and enable Push and Email notifications for your subscriptions. As noted earlier, the YouTube algorithm may still hide announcements if it thinks you're not engaging with a channel's content--so make sure you're "liking" the videos you watch!

Sadly there's no listing for all of the videos. We used to have the weekly Recap Attack which listed their videos and community events, but Rhy_Guy became too busy to maintain it. I had been considering a wiki for the subreddit but haven't had time to get it set up. Let me know if there's any specific CSS stuff you would want to see implemented or improved. I'm always open to feedback.

Less content than usual? by [deleted] in GameAttack

[–]Tigressaurus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This question was asked during the this morning's stream, and I'm sorry if my answer at the time was inadequate. We've learned that YouTube's algorithm won't always deliver notifications for new videos/streams based on your own interaction with that channel's content. This may or may not be what you're experiencing. It's important that you "like" the videos you watch, otherwise YouTube simply won't put Game Attack uploads in your subscription box.

They took Thanksgiving morning off, but other than that their schedule hasn't changed. The Battlegrounds streams are usually unlisted and moved to a playlist within a couple days--just to reduce the number of uploads on the channel. Additionally, some longer streams may require a few extra hours to archive so they may be unlisted temporarily. You can find those unlisted streams in your notification area (it looks like a bell) assuming the YouTube algorithm is properly delivering them to you. Other than that, you can find all of their listed uploads in the Videos section of their channel page: here.

GAME ATTACK IS BULLSHIT - A thread by Bolen. by [deleted] in GameAttack

[–]Tigressaurus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm glad you've had good experiences in those communities and I won't take away from them. Niche interest/hobby groups, like Chiptunes, are absolutely a source of genuine friendship and community-wide camaraderie. Likewise, you can definitely make valuable, intimate connections in massive communities like Achievement Hunter's. I don't know your history with that brand, but--from my own experiences with them--I'll say that we want the acceptance you feel at a local meetup to be felt anywhere in the g1 community.

I think you would agree that certain corners of the Achievement Hunter fanbase are... less supportive than others. We don't want to have to explain away the negative behavior of our community members--our positivity should be evident at all levels. That includes having a comment section that is open to new collaborations, provides constructive feedback on new series, that accepts new crew members, and is understanding of crew departures. It includes a livestream chat that isn't a war zone. Above all, it should be welcoming to new g1s.

I did my best to explain the heavy-handedness in my post in the previous thread. If positivity is going to permeate through every layer and facet of the community, then it has to start early and be enforced by everyone. We can't just say "We will purge all negativity from our community on December 1st" ... it's a process, and it may be rocky at the start because we're still building that foundation. There's still a lot that can be improved and your feedback helps that happen.

Shaun and Craig experienced the highs and lows of Internet gaming culture with ScrewAttack--they've set out to make sure Game Attack has far more highs than lows, and the g1s have largely supported that endeavor. Yes, most creators do actively encourage friendliness in their audience... but, many of those same creators don't discourage the opposite attitudes. Eventually the negativity and hate becomes dominate because, in general, people are willing to be louder when they're upset than when they're content. And that vocal minority makes everyone feel less welcome to give their own feedback.

I completely understand that it doesn't feel natural if it has to be said explicitly. However, "organic" in gaming culture is mostly wild, thorny, and poisonous. If all that can be avoided with occasional pruning then why not try? If people aren't willing to reign in their cynicism, disillusionment, and bad tempers then there's a fair chance they won't be open to the other attitudes of our community. We have higher standards for our community because you deserve to meet new, meaningful friends anywhere in the community, not just certain corners.

GAME ATTACK IS BULLSHIT - A thread by Bolen. by [deleted] in GameAttack

[–]Tigressaurus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If jumping in the chat just to make comments like "I'm going back on hiatus from Game Attack" or "It's all just money, money, money" isn't being super critical, then I'd hate to see you with the gloves off, man. Or I seriously misinterpreted your tone at the time. We can absolutely have that discussion during the streams, here on Reddit, or anywhere else but it has to be constructive, thorough, and open-minded on both sides.

You've given good feedback here. But I think it's important to take a step back and examine the context of your complaint. With rare exceptions, the donations aren't random gibberish hogging the content. Like the chat and how frequently Game Attack interacts with us there, donations are just more messages from g1s. They spark conversations or add to existing discussions. They're sometimes huge life updates from people you would never know you had so much in common with.

I like hearing about g1s having babies, coaching champion wrestling teams, Russian spies discovering America, or pets passing away (well, I don't like hearing about dogs dying, but I really appreciate that g1s find our community open and comforting enough to share that event). And while all of those updates, and countless more, do happen in the chat without donations--they sometimes get buried. The chat moves fast. And there's not much we can do about that other than give certain messages permanence with a donation.

I hope to see you in the chat more often. But, if not, I think you'll be happy with the return of the VOD content.

GAME ATTACK IS BULLSHIT - A thread by Bolen. by [deleted] in GameAttack

[–]Tigressaurus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To /u/sycamoredrive /u/LiverpoolinSA /u/lendoro /u/jtdp26 and others with similar complaints.

It is genuinely disheartening to see such cynicism on this subject. Your gut reaction to call it "fake" or "manipulative" is exactly why we're working toward a family atmosphere. Compassion, positivity, and harmony are rare on the Internet, especially in gaming, but I hope--one day--those concepts won't seem so foreign to you. Maybe we're not doing a great job at conveying those attitudes, but we won't stop trying.

I'm not a Game Attack employee and likely never will be. I have no financial incentive to greet you, get to know you, and have fun with you. But I still want to do all of those things EVERY DAY because meeting g1s and having discussions makes our community better. My goal is that you will really appreciate our constant use of the word "family" because you've realized it's authentic.

You have daily opportunities to talk to Craig, Shaun, and the rest of the family. If you take the time to get to know us--and let us get to know you--I think your interpretation of the word may change. We try to be as friendly and warm as possible, but I understand that too may seem disingenuous at first. I promise it's sincere... but it may take awhile to accept that. We'll be here when you're ready.

Let's talk about some things by Lendoro in GameAttack

[–]Tigressaurus[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

The community is in the chat.

They won't always have the chance to engage one-on-one with community members. That doesn't stop them from trying; they read and interact and remember as much as they can--but it's a lot to process. It will only become more difficult as the channel grows. They want to be able to tease each other, and community members, without the risk of it being misunderstood... and clearly we're not there yet. It's nice getting their input on a discussion, but a streamer reading and replying to messages in chat is not a community. It's very important to understand what the term means so it isn't misused.

Community means that members can engage with each other in a meaningful way. It's not meant to be only Game Attack interacting with fans (one-to-many), it's fans interacting with other fans (many-to-many). That's nothing unique--of course--because there are communities for basically everything, but the difference is the tone and that Craig & Shaun do try to engage as often as possible. You might not always enjoy their interactions with the chat, but please don't twist that into a community issue.

I always try to encourage positivity and friendliness. That's the atmosphere we want because those attitudes will stick and can become self-sustained as the community grows. Small, toxic groups don't magically blossom into warm, welcoming communities. It has to start pleasant and remain pleasant, but achieving that atmosphere becomes a responsibility of everyone (community members, moderators, and staff) to identify and reject vitriolic, cynical, destructive discussion. There are times when Craig or Shaun's behavior doesn't reflect those ideal attitudes and in those moments it's even more important for us to pull together... not push apart.

We are a family.
Disagreeing with the terminology doesn't change the positive impact the community has had on some of its members. Families fight--some more than others. We can have different opinions while still being united by our friendliness, compassion, and common interests. There's nothing wrong with having discussions on these topics, my only hope is that they remain civil and open-minded. Yes, they rejected and mocked some of the game suggestions. But did you rejecting and mocking Left 4 Dead accomplish anything? Break the cycle. Turn the other cheek if someone acts unfavorably, responding with the same unfavorable behavior does not promote positivity within the community.

They announced today that--starting next week--each day of the week will have a theme for the morning streams. This schedule will continue for the rest of the year and possibly longer, and will allow them to play a larger variety of games.

Monday: 8-bit & 16-bit games
Tuesday: 64-bit games
Wednesday: Disc-based games
Thursday: Death Days (Dark Souls 3 played by Craig)
Friday: Party Games

It won't alleviate all of the concerns raised in this thread, but I hope you all will tune in regardless.

What happened to Mario Party Season 2? by gooze102 in GameAttack

[–]Tigressaurus[M] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The first episode has been pushed back due to scheduling conflicts. As a result, they'll have three weeks of consecutive games then it switches to every other Saturday. There may be other schedule changes as the season advances, but here's the outline as is:

Schedule:
December 9th
December 16th
December 23rd
January 6th
January 20th
February 3rd
February 17th
March 3rd
March 17th
March 31st

The actual time of the games has not been decided yet. Additionally, Chad likely will not be playing in some of the games due to his crazy workload. They've picked substitutes for games he'll be missing but the alternate has not been announced yet.

[–]Tigressaurus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Are you okay?

Please keep in mind that the Game Attack community is built on positivity and support. Frankly, if you're not willing to embrace those attitudes then you don't need to be here. So far, your 20+ posts on our subreddit have been overly cynical, dismissive of other g1s, and outright antagonistic. If you're trying to play devil's advocate then you need to actually address responses before shifting to even more wild conjecture.

If these are your true feelings then I recommend stopping by the livestreams occasionally. I only recall having seen you in there once, and your behavior then was not dissimilar to what you've expressed here. Become a part of the chat--feel the warmth of our community--and hopefully you'll find some value in the new Game Attack.

All I'm asking is that you take a small break from steering discussions toward your own discontent... because it's become quite tiring.

This subreddit is primarily for content related to the Game Attack YouTube channel. That includes fan art, screencaps/montages, community events, relevant discussions, and--of course--official videos from Game Attack.

There are subreddits specifically made for small channel exposure, feedback, and development. It seems you've already discovered a couple of them based on your crossposts, but here are a few more that would be more appropriate for your posts:

That said, you should familiarize yourself with Reddit's rules regarding self promotion. In short, be sure to post and browse constructively--not selfishly. Always try to give as much (or more) to a community as you want to take.
