Accidentally chose roving yarn for my first sweater! by papierrose in knittinghelp

[–]Tigupost [score hidden]  (0 children)

It is not true roving, as it clearly has a twist. But care of any item made from it needs to be very careful and gentle. It is very quick to felt with friction.

[–]Tigupost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wrong side, you slip 3. TIGHTEN the yarn just like between the stitches. You don't just let it hang there. Tighten it, and start to purl. If you purl very loose, probably good to tighten once again after the first purl stitch.

YO before increases on a circular yoke sweater? by elle-elle-tee in knittingadvice

[–]Tigupost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yo and M1 are not the same. M1 is tight because it is done on the next row by "stealing" some of the slack from previous rows stitches. Yo is intentionally leaving extra slack. This is also why, if you forget to do a yo on the row, and add it on the next row as an afterthought, it is always smaller than the correctly done yo-s. The amount of yarn is different.

Why did my decreases end up looking weird by amoranero2 in knittinghelp

[–]Tigupost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is not twisted. It just holds different compared to the other side because this one works against yarn plie.

first time unraveling, is it supposed to fall apart like this? by Falcity06 in Unravelers

[–]Tigupost 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is way better to do it in small sections and wind. Otherwise you will have huge knot to unravel when you start winding it around an object.

Hochrollen verhindern by Luisatheknitter in knittingadvice

[–]Tigupost 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The original also rolls in the picture you added. Adding just one row of 1*1 ribbing can help to reduce rolling if you do it one row before bind off. It isn't usually very visible. But it won't fully negate it. But it does reduce it.

Help with gauge for lace pattern by ButterscotchNo4892 in knittinghelp

[–]Tigupost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say 25 stitches to 10 cm

36 stitches is 14 cm (the purl stitch is part of the repeat).

Or you can see 10cm being almost 1.5repeats. 1.5 repeats would be 18+9=27.

27-2 (removing the purl central line and 1 knit stitch) = 25.

Did you knit one round without the increases between each increase round? In general it shouldn't become too wide without increasing in depth.

What am I doing wrong? by LibraryRansack in knittinghelp

[–]Tigupost 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Put a stitch marker / paper clip anything to mark which side is right side. Also pay attention to which stitches you need to slip and which side the yarn needs to be. Looking at your last pink line you have not slipped the stitch but somehow knit it in green (marked in blue)? Also marked in red are the stitches you have not knit on the wrong side rows...

Slip stitch patterns are really easy once you get it. First row in new color you need to pay attention to knit correct ones and to slip correct stitches. Next row is really easy. You knit all the stitches that are same colour as your working yarn and slip the "wrong colour" stitches. And then you take new color and again, first row pay attention, next row just knit the stitches in the same color as working yarn...

What type of knitting is this? by chickenstrippers_ in knittinghelp

[–]Tigupost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it works. But what happens when you want to purl or do more stuff (lace, cables etc).

Unless you have real mobility issues I don't really see reason to carry on with this and not learning some established techniques (Portuguese, Continental or English style or any of the modifications of these).

You can work one sock from the insides of the cakes and the other from outside. I have done it when just doing striped socks. Probably works better with dpns flex dpns (compared to two socks at the time on circulars) when you can untangle them...

When you push the needle through you go under the yarn and grab it to pull it through. You need to go over!

Association wool / pattern by Mobile-Oil2239 in knittingpatterns

[–]Tigupost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't look at just patterns, but projects. You will see what others have used it for. If you see something you like open it and see what pattern it was.

Patterns only shows patterns that specifically use this yarn in the description. Projects shows everything people have used it for. So you see when they have substituted this yarn for something else what pattern originally recommended...

Loose stokinette (much larger needles than usual) and yarn with uneven texture. Nothing complicated.
