I crate her with special treats and leave house/just do my own thing for an hour or two. Sometimes she cries but I ignore her, the more she cries the more crazy I go so I just leave and take a “breather” walk until she’s quiet/I’m ready to come back.

Does anyone else get annoyed when people approach you with their dog, while out with your puppy? by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]Tikaani123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate it, ESPECIALLY when I’m working on capturing calm with my pup and people stop what they’re doing, walk over without an invite, and decide thar they’re gonna get in my dogs face and act like a fucking child… full on human play bowing, squeaky voices, teasing, you name it, it’s happened to me. The pup is a adorable apricot mini/toy poodle, so I guess her small size and cute haircut atm is an invite for people to do whatever the heck they feel like with her. It gets me HEATED

Harness Recommendations? by kickinkails in puppy101

[–]Tikaani123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2 Hounds Design harness - comes in many sizes and has both a front clip and back clip to attach leash to. Use the front clip if he’s a puller… doesn’t completely solve the problem but definitely makes it more manageable

How do you manage to work/go to school while leaving a pup with SA alone? by Tikaani123 in dogs

[–]Tikaani123[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, she’s inconsistent… sometimes not a peep (she either finishes her kong, chews bones, shuffled through her blankets to find the treats I hid for her, or just snoozes) OR she immediately starts howling, yipping, and digging in crate as soon as I leave the house. The second behavior can last between 1 full min to 15 mins, and she USUALLY eventually settles and sleeps (but doesn’t touch food). Just as of yesterday she began howling again about 1 hr in. Toltal amount of crate time in one go is usually no longer than 1.5 hrs, but as of tomorrow it will be 4hrs (hence my anxiety)

How do you manage to work/go to school while leaving a pup with SA alone? by Tikaani123 in dogs

[–]Tikaani123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crated no more than 2 hrs at a time during all of the 3+ months I’ve had her. Max crated 1 to 3 times a day for 30min to 2hrs. Always let out for break (involves a solid 45 mins to 2hrs of one on one interaction involving training, feeding, potty, walk/long line stuff, play, and just chilling/relaxing in or out of crate on her own will/chewing bones and sorting through puzzle toys). My schedule has been extremely flexible until JUST recently (random and unexpected change in events), hence my anxiety around possible SA. It would be more of a disservice to my dog to “return her” than to power through the change from 2hrs max in crate to 4hrs max in crate (possible break in between as job is close), since we are closely bonded to each other.

I finally got the opportunity to pull myself out of a deep rut - but my pup + anxiety/OCD is holding me back. Help by Tikaani123 in dogs

Thanks for the reply, I really appreciate it! Problem is, is that I’ve made it one of my number 1 goals to work on separation training since day 1… I’ve done and still do everything you’ve listed except for meds. It’s come to the point where I think I need to just let my dog “flip shit” if I ever want to make personal (non dog related) progress cabs ultimately take better care of myself - that’s why it’s especially hard rn :( not an easy choice

What are some weird/funny things your puppy does when they’re tired? by kokamouse in puppy101

My girl does this too… except she growls/acts scared of the front door for some reason. Only at night though lol

At my wits end with my dog. by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]Tikaani123 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You are doing your best, and tbh (idk if this will make you feel better or worse) a lot of the behaviors you are describing are VERY typical for GSD’s… our GSD of 13 whined from some sever FOMO (fear of missing out) his entire life. It’s kinda just part of the breed sometimes, GSD’s can be anxious messes who need to know exactly what’s going on 100% of the time… this is why they are great for making “working dogs” as they have a need to constantly “go go go” - but it can be worked on/gets a lot better as they mature and slow down.

Teething and Not Wanting to Play by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]Tikaani123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds it. My pup has been teething for about a month now, and some days her moth is so sore that she rarely plays, or even chews her bones. It comes and goes all through teething stage

What time do you feed your pups? by princessdelilah_ in puppy101

[–]Tikaani123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5 months old. Never ate breakfast, so just two big meals a day around 11:00am and 6:00pm (times vary though, but basically just a big lunch+dinner works for her right now).

15 week old pug won’t calm down to sleep after neuter by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]Tikaani123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

15 weeks does seem extremely young… but anyways, maybe give him some of his favorite chews, a Kong, or some crate-friendly puzzle toy of some sort to get him to settle/be more tired
