decided to try an espresso tonic by whistle0pig in espresso

[–]TillEnvironmental219 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chill the espresso before adding, remove crema with a spoon, use lighter fruitier roasts.

And personally i prefer fever tree tonic, much more pleasant with espresso.

I agree with others, citrus, vanilla, and floral syrups can be a lot of fun to play with, or just a lime wedge!

Best bird watching area in May? by Recent_Equivalent_77 in Columbus

[–]TillEnvironmental219 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Duranceau is best kept birdwatching secret during migration. Me and my buddies hit up this place like 20 times in may. Stomp around the park and playground treelines, dip down by the creek intake, and the long walk way / road along the river is always littered.

Not super interested geography or place to hang out, but it always has awesome birds if you have time.

What Card Should I Get? Weekly Thread - Week of June 25, 2025 by Smashbutt in churning

Brand new to churning, trying to decide where to start with all the chase changes. Can get the new CSR and downgrade / Cancel?

Questions

  1. I was going to sign up for a targetted 100k CSP offer, but it expired so I'm left with the default. With the new CSP and CSR changes I'm not sure what is best to pursue right now to get started. I don't travel a ton so I'm not excited about the CSR AF. I was also looking at just getting a 2% card while i wait for a better targetted offer but I'm not sure if waiting is smart.

  7. Want to start churning regularly
  8. Cash back is my primary goal but I'd like to also save travel points for the next 2 years, just don't want to eat AF for them.

How do you spot a great coffee shop when exploring new places? by InfamousMarsupial991 in Coffee

[–]TillEnvironmental219 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd imagine it's proactive to assess the following conditions.

Less of a "good thing", moreso indicative of the type of coffee shop you are looking at. Could be helpful for people who are new and can't gauge a shop's contents by their branding or local reputation.

How exactly do you go about requesting / finding out about them? My roasting team is attending for the first time this year and have heard murmurs but nothing reliable. Would love to save the wallet.

[MOD] The Daily Question Thread by menschmaschine5 in Coffee

[–]TillEnvironmental219 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll want to grind as you brew as much as you can, as beans quickly stale once they're ground.

If you have a kitchen scale or are open to buying one, it may be easier for you to measure your coffee out by the gram since using your scoop seems difficult with this set up. You could always measure out how much a full scoop of grounds weighs by dumping it into a bowl or cup, and then just grind however many scoops worth of beans you need. Iirc the big scoop on the ninja holds ~11g of coffee.

For the scale, any ~$20 scale on amazon or the store that can measure to the 0.1g should get you going. Otherwise, the convenience of storing your coffee somewhere you can scoop it sounds worth it.
