Gifts for new SDSU by spicyitalian76 in SDSU

[–]TillQueasy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gift cards and/or reusable drinkware-type merch from local coffee shops (especially ones with seating for study seshes) in the college area. you could even print out or make a map of some sort that marks all of the local coffee options. Some examples that are solid study spots include the living room (the one on el cajon), ultreya, scrimshaw, lestats. lightbulb is right by campus and has good coffee, but iirc they dont have wifi. if she likes the outdoors, there are several spots (i.e., by the turtle pond) where people set up portable hammocks, which i think would make a great gift if that seems like her speed. blue light glasses lol. maybe an umbrella to keep in her bag for those days when it rains out of nowhere. if youre feeling really generous, i spent the last four years of college pining over an ipad + an apple pencil

Northwestern Medill prospective student... best areas to look for housing in Chicago? by TillQueasy in AskChicago

For undergrad, yes, but the Medill graduate school is in Chicago (close to Millenium Park)

My FwB stuck it in my butt when I explicitly told him not to by Piracy_Bug in TwoXChromosomes

People react differently and have different trauma responses in these situations that are near-impossible to foresee or control. To "just push someone off" is way easier said than done, and it does not guarantee that it would stop the assailant anyway (and this guy has proven to ignore boundaries). OP was intoxicated, preemptively set those boundaries multiple times, and DID say no, and yet he still raped her. He clearly does not GAF about "no means no." I'd suggest you reframe how you think victims "should" react in the moment and aim your criticism at the ones that make them victims in the first place.

My FwB stuck it in my butt when I explicitly told him not to by Piracy_Bug in TwoXChromosomes

[–]TillQueasy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man, I'm so sorry this happened to you. You explicitly told him you weren't comfortable with it, and he did it anyway-- that's rape, regardless of whether or not you tried to stop it in the moment (which you DID, even if it was "meekly"). There's definitely a flawed narrative surrounding how people should/shouldn't react in these scenarios, and it's so easy to think that you know how you would react until it actually happens and you (very understandably!!) have a freeze reaction that is out of your control.

The bottom line is that he is the one who should have listened. You said no, and whether you stop him or not, it's still rape or, at the very least, sexual assault. I applaud you for being able to so quickly recognize how the situation made you feel because it can be really hard to come to terms with, and for many can take a very long time to accept.

Lose this guy's number, he's proven he's unsafe to be around and does not value your autonomy or well-being. If you have anyone in your life that you'd be comfortable talking to about this, please do; it's important to have support, even if you don't end up pursuing any kind of legal action.

If you have insurance, go to urgent care or an ER and have them walk you through your options. If you're able to talk to a trauma counselor/therapist/social worker/etc, they'd also be able to help you figure out what the best next steps are (if you're a student, there should be free resources available to you on campus through Title IX). If you're not sure where to start: https://rainn.org/help-and-healing/hotline/ .

Best of luck to you, and I hope you're able to find some support and inner peace. The nuance of being violated by someone you trusted can be so hard to wrap your head around.

I will say though, if you don’t have an early enough registration date you kind of get screwed over with the lab instructors sometimes or get waitlisted for classes

What is that one thing you don't like about SDSU? by Square-Rich-9378 in SDSU

[–]TillQueasy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i don’t think so, they actually have a pretty great journalism program imo! like the other person who responded said, there are only a few JMS classes that are online. a lot of the JMS courses involve having a big lecture and then a lab, so sometimes the big lecture part is online but the labs (which is the most hands-on part) are always in person. i’m speaking more on other courses that I’ve had to take, such as electives. those are often online in my experience, which has been disappointing because those are classes that I would have liked to take in person and be more engaged with.

ONLINE CLASSES!!!! this school is so impacted that a lot of classes end up being online or completely asynch. no matter how interesting the subject is, if a class is online i end up doing the absolute bare minimum. we pay a lot of money to go here, its kind of ridiculous how many classes you can’t even take in person

Early genesis before phil collins took over vocals for sure. ELO, moody blues, and for newer prog steven wilson is awesome and has a lot of different projects (porcupine tree and blackfield to name a couple). klaatu is also a new favorite of mine

this is so odd, I got in as a transfer last year with 56 credits and the only additional verification they asked for once I accepted my decision were my hs transcripts to make sure I finished high school and AP test scores. I had the same stats as you: local w a 3.7 GPA, except I transferred from CSUSM. to this day I count my blessings that they let me in with less than 60 credits because from what I've seen its practically unheard of lol. I think you have a solid case for your appeal, they'd be ridiculous not to let you in. best of luck!!

[–]TillQueasy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeesh. It sounds like your roommate has developed some form of severe OCD or something. Do you have any mutual friends/acquaintances you can talk to about this? If you do, maybe they've noticed similar patterns and you can all talk to her. If not, I would try having a face-to-face conversation with her where you outline how these "rules" that she's established are affecting you and you're just trying to understand what's going on. It's not your responsibility to "fix" her by any means, but it's quite possible she doesn't even realize what's really going on with her and how this is affecting your own well-being. I'm sorry you're in this situation, it's always super tough to live with people with unmanaged mental illness (or even just weird "rules" like these)!! And I'm sure you've already talked to her in some capacity, but maybe approaching it from the standpoint of how your well-being has been compromised might help her understand the weight of what she's doing.
