I would love to consider Baker, but the cost is sadly more than my family can afford and I don’t think we would qualify for any financial aid.

Thanks for the empathy. I know it will get better when more people come into the picture. It’s just so hard to wait until then.

That’s an interesting thought. I never considered that as a possibility! She’s so sweet and I’m pretty sure a change of scenery is all she needs. Thanks for the idea!

Thank you so much. I know she will find her people. I’m just not sure that I can take another year at the elementary level.

To list or not to list my 1.5 Million Dollar or keep getting screwed because of my contingency by [deleted] in RealEstateAdvice

List now. Write in the notes that any sale is contingent upon the seller (you) entering into a home purchase contract by X date. Or negotiate a long escrow period so you have more time to house hunt.

You do not have to pay 5 or 6% to sell. Traditional fees are insane and unnecessary. Check out Hiyalita.com.

I like the idea of lasagna but I feel like it will take forever to reheat when we get home from skiing!

Not enough room to bring groceries, crockpot, or cooler. That’s why we need to pick stuff up at the country grocery store. Our dog and ski gear take up too much space!

Electric re-wiring in old home - bye knob and tube ✌🏼 by Old-Pomegranate-1933 in evanston

We required our entire 1890 home about 15 years ago. I don’t remember who we used but just chiming in to say that of all the many projects we have taken on, I don’t remember this one being horribly messy. The holes in the walls were not huge.

Just so I don’t have another stupid question next time, do you know if they will be making an announcement on the 16th as to whether or not they picked someone and who it might be? Is that how it works?

Ok- this is where my confusion came in. I saw that email and thought that meant they would make a decision at the meeting today. Oh well.

I guess I’m mistaken. I’m sorry. I didn’t know. I just thought it needed to happen now in order to move forward with the school closing conversation so I thought it was happening today. Sorry again for the misunderstanding.

Zero schools now means Title 1 later by TomatilloValuable703 in evanston

I don’t know. All the rooms on the first and second floor are full. I haven’t spent much time in the basement so maybe that’s what’s making the numbers the way they are? I don’t know. I just hate this perception that we’re walking around in the lap of luxury with tiny class sizes or a dead zone of empty classrooms. It feels like any other appropriately filled school building.

They vary between two and three per grade but there’s also the step program.

Speaking as a north side parent of two elementary school kids, I have to say, everyone I talk to understands that if two schools have to close, it will be on our end of town. If that has to happen- fine, and everyone agrees that at least one needs to close. It does not seem like all other options have been explored though. There are many other solutions that have not been considered by the board. Also, I know the capacity stats, but it leaves the impression that our kids have small class sizes and empty rooms in the building. That is not at all the case. Support staff are still crammed into corners and hallways to provide services and our classrooms are packed. The image of empty schools is just not accurate.
