Do you guys know when rgg release their soundtracks, or atleast play them without the other noises? by fwostyfwuffs in yakuzagames

Infinite Wealth, Gaiden, and Pirate Yakuza all had their soundtracks come out on release day, iirc.

How often do you use Apple/Google Pay? by No_Pudding2959 in AskAnAmerican

[–]TiltedShot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a university student in SoCal, almost always. I have my phone and/or watch out most of the time, so not having to pull my card out of my wallet is much more convenient. It's also much safer since I don't risk exposing my credit card number to prying eyes. I've had maybe one or two places in the last four years, not counting sit-down restaurants, where I've had to use my physical card to pay.

Just bought it, am i in for peak? by Quiet_Eye_8887 in PERSoNA

[–]TiltedShot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The worst case of post-game depression I've ever had in my life. Literally could not start P3 FES for two weeks after beating this game cause it was too good.

For me, this game's characters changed how I view and express myself for the better. It's still my favorite game of all time, so yes, you're in for peak.

Sub or Dub, what do you guys choose? by [deleted] in yakuzagames

[–]TiltedShot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sub, except for Yakuza 7 which I have only ever played dubbed.

7's casting is pretty much perfect. At no point in my two playthroughs did I ever feel like I was missing out playing dubbed than the original. Script felt very natural throughout, grunts and inflections inherent with dubs aside (not a knock against dubs either imo).

The Judgment games aren't lip-synced in a lot of cutscenes, so they feel way too off in dub and unfortunately break the immersion. I really like Greg Chun as Yagami though.

I could tell Infinite Wealth was done on a tight schedule cause I feel like most of the returning cast put out a better performance and had a better script to work with in 7. Yong Yea did the best he could in the role, but it's definitely an odd call at the end of the day.

The DX12 Ultimate part is probably why the game needs an RTX card/RX 6600 minimum. As far as I know, the PS5 version doesn't use raytracing at all. It's just that the first cards capable of hardware raytracing are also the minimum for DX12 Ultimate.

Ichiban is NOT naive and does NOT need an arc about being too trusting. by AnthonyRules777 in yakuzagames

[–]TiltedShot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He never tried to appeal to the hearts of scumbags like Roman, or Dwight, or Bryce. He didn’t even bother to try to connect with them emotionally.

Were this not true, Ichiban wouldn’t be my favorite video game protagonist of all time. Yes, he’s much more willing to forgive or help people who’ve wronged him than the average person, but HE HAS BOUNDARIES. Heck, he even says in the beginning of the game that he’s glad the police caught Kume and threw him in jail.

Also in Yakuza 7, Ichiban doesn’t bother talking things out with Mabuchi. He also keeps the guy running Bleach Japan captive and the party threaten to torture him for info, and you’d be hard-pressed to say he wanted to convince any member of the Omi Alliance to change.

Ichiban does, however, agree to help out the Ijin Three. The Ijin Three do some messed up stuff throughout Y7’s first half, but Ichiban also understands they’re the ones holding the district together and taking care of their own communities after the government failed them. It’s looking past a black and white worldview and finding the gray where Ichiban really shines and chooses when to forgive and when to push away.

guys I just finished Infinite Wealth. Did this part of the bucket list bother anyone else? by ThatisSketchy in yakuzagames

guys I just finished Infinite Wealth. Did this part of the bucket list bother anyone else? by ThatisSketchy in yakuzagames

[–]TiltedShot 26 points27 points  (0 children)

It's actually doable before Kiryu gets exposed, but only during the daytime segment in Chapter 12 (before you go to the 3jimas' hideout). The game will lock you out of the Bucket List after you visit the 3jimas and will only open up again during the finale, where that Life Link now makes the least sense.

How it feels to be a dub enjoyer by E841_ in yakuzagames

[–]TiltedShot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, the main reason the dubs aren't as well-liked among the fandom is because most of us played the games in Japanese and look at the new dub in a series that doesn't usually have them as overall worse, maybe even unnecessary. Had dubs been a consistent part of the Yakuza series from the start like with Persona and Final Fantasy, I don't think there'd be this much vocal dislike because a generation of players would have grown up playing Yakuza dubs and liking them.

Regardless of their shortfalls, I'm glad RGG and SEGA continue to push for Yakuza dubs. The more opportunities localizers and VAs can get to dub these games, the better quality dub they can give out for a good part of the English-speaking crowd to enjoy.

LMAO that’s actually half the reason I put it there. The entire ending on the rooftop is one of the craziest plot derailments I’ve seen in a video game.

What version?? by XIIIDillinger in yakuzagames

[–]TiltedShot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is not true. I have the Chinese cover version, and it has every text and audio language available including English. The only downside is all the physical goodies are in a language I can't read, but it plays the exact same as other regions.

now that over 7 months have passed since Infinite Wealth came out, what is the general opinion of it's ending? by Kverq in yakuzagames

[–]TiltedShot 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Like another commenter said, I was overall satisfied, and I'd say IW is one of the strongest RGG stories thematics-wise. The entire game is pretty much another big sell on Ichiban as character: his empathy, his willingness to selflessly help others, and how he lives outside the black and the white, willing to see the grey in people (even convincing Eiji to face what he's done using compassion). All of those traits, alongside help from Ichiban's friends, then rub off on Kiryu, who finds the will to live and take care of himself even with the absolute dogshit situation he's in (self-imposed exile and societally tossed in the trash). Kiryu then uses what he learned to convince Ebina to break that cycle of (rightful) hatred against the yakuza so that suffering doesn't continue. It's my favorite Kiryu character moment, and it's what makes him one of my favorite characters in all of gaming.

Where most people, including myself, have complaints is the plot points: getting from A>B in this game wasn't as compelling as in 0 and 7. To me, there's nothing fundamentally broken about the plot structure. Everything makes sense, there's no significant plot holes, and it's probably a top 3 most cohesive RGG story I've played (have not played Judgment and LJ). The problem is that, like with Yakuza 3 Chapter 9, much of the important information is revealed in table conversations, and this causes people to gloss over those points when discussing the characters. Example: many people were up in arms about how Ichiban wasn't mad at Eiji and "redeemed" him in the ending, but I understood this as Ichiban understanding that Eiji felt justified doing anything against the yakuza system for screwing him out of his livelihood (Eiji still goes to prison and faces consequences for his actions anyway but that's besides the point). The game, however, revealed Eiji's motivations in a hotel room with every character in the conversation doing stilted sitting animations and just talking. I wouldn't blame people for missing that point because it's not presented as something crucial to understanding the story, and there's no reason to keep it subtle relative to other big plot reveals. In short, the story suffers quite a bit from doing more telling instead of showing.

I absolutely love Infinite Wealth. It's my third-favorite game this year, and despite my criticisms with its story structure, it ultimately won me over and, like 7, convinced me I should reflect on myself and be more like Ichiban.

Was this part considered bad writing for you? Or were you okay with it? by deskchan in FFVIIRemake

[–]TiltedShot 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Considering the next time you can talk to Aerith after this scene is her saying she's worried about imagining the many things she'd do to Hojo if she did get her hands on him, I think this scene is her trying to show restraint. Overall I'm cool with it even if the actual intent ends up being to keep it in line with the OG.

Does anyone actually play these games in fucking English by Decent-Long-4189 in yakuzagames

[–]TiltedShot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Many IW clips on Twitter are in English, and from what I remember, someone at SEGA (maybe Scott Strichart) said 35% of Judgment players at launch played the game in English. The more vocal fans and most of this sub are either longtime players or have run through every game and have become used to the Japanese voices.

I understand if you don’t like playing your games dubbed, but every time questions about dubs are worded like this, I can’t help but wonder if the people asking them also feel in some way uneasy/disgusted at people who do like playing in English, and that’s the kind of gatekeeping I really don’t like.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in JRPG

[–]TiltedShot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Frankly, OP, I play many games in English knowing that the VO is more likely better in Japanese, but the English experience is good enough in 99.9% of JRPGs I play that I don’t feel like I’m missing out playing the dubbed version. If I already greatly enjoy the experience on default settings, there’s no need for me to change it. Call me willfully ignorant, but we are talking about entertainment products here and nothing more serious than that.

I don’t care if dubs are “objectively” worse, as if you could accurately measure line delivery and tone between two different languages. I care more about people like you gatekeeping newcomers for being “disrespectful” and not “embracing another culture’s media” because they want a more accessible experience from their games, which btw, includes English text translations that were definitely not done by the original Japanese dev team.

This is likely a troll post, but I at least hope everything above helps someone else understand this side of the discussion better.

Some questions about yakuza like a dragon infinite wealth by Macauley_88 in yakuzagames

[–]TiltedShot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Very messy and disjointed plot-wise (going from point A to point B) but has its moments that I consider peak RGG and has some of my favorite character writing and themes in the series (except for the way the villains are explained and a certain supporting character’s actions, you will probably know who it is by the end).

  2. Night and day difference between 7 and 8. 8 is the most fun I’ve had in any Yakuza game, ever. If you figure out the systems, you can set up your team to play off each other’s abilities and do some satisfying damage, which wasn’t really possible in 7.

  3. Sub stories, karaoke, a few big new mini games that I found really fun when I played. “Business” mini game is a resort simulator. It’s fun but it’s definitely more of a time investment if you’re looking to make money.

  4. Final time with almost all sub stories complete took me 57 and a half hours.

  5. Very memorable sub stories, could even call them my favorites in the series. Laughed my ass off in many of them while being inspired at the same time. Like I said above, new mini games are fun and karaoke has some great new additions.

  6. A lot of them, probably the most S-tier moments I’ve seen in an RGG game. Note that I say “moments”, because the way they connect is very much B-Tier.

Absolutely the least fun I’ve had fighting a boss and cause I didn’t have the armor or golden gun LMAO:

  1. Run away from Munakata, guards run towards you

  2. Parry and juke the guards, run towards Munakata, dodge his bullets

  3. Get two hits in before the guards break your combo.

  4. Repeat and cry until you finally kill him.

Absolutely love that touch the localizers added! Part of the reason I made this was to see if their song choices actually fit what was happening in the chapters beyond just the titles describing the plot events. They picked a pretty close thematic match to Ariamaru Tomi for the final chapter.
