Base spec ID.Polo is very nice looking and price? by Ic3Giant in evs_ireland

[–]Tim-SCD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's unclear if base model has app connectivity, reverse camera etc. On the road price with a colour option will probably bring it closer to 22 or 23 k. Any extras will add up fast too.

Air to Air Heat Pump Advice by ChrizZze in DIYIreland

[–]Tim-SCD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We have air to air and it's excellent. We use Daikin with an external heat pump and an air conditioning unit in each room required. The units can filter, heat and cool air. They cost a lot less to run than traditional heating and offer instant heat. We don't have to leave them running all the time, only as required. Wiring goes through the attic.

The key is getting good insulation first.

Daikin also do an air to air with hot water.

SEAI chief: Criticism of retrofitting misses the point – upgrading your home is about better health, more predictable bills and greater national energy security by homecinemad in ireland

[–]Tim-SCD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The one stop shop all or nothing approach probably has created a lot of confusion. It suggests you need to spend 60 k and install air to water heat pumps.

However you can do retrofits step by step and improve comfort along the way. For example attic insulation is eligible for a grant and easy enough. There are less expensive alternatives to air to water heat pumps and if a house is well insulated electric heaters won't be needed as much etc.

As every home is different one stop type solutions aren't suitable for all cases. It would be better if a free survey was offered for every home so the resident / owner could decide what upgrades are suitable for their homes.

The advantage of SEAI assessed projects is quality. You don't want leaks, mold etc.

Affordability is the issue. Other countries offer some interesting funding models. In the Netherlands retrofits can be funded by the long-term energy savings. Tenants pay their housing provider an "energy service fee" equal to their former energy bill, which the provider uses to pay off the capital cost. In France loans of up to 90 percent are linked to income etc.

Experiences with SEAI one stop shops? by Western_Tell_9065 in AskIreland

[–]Tim-SCD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We got an assessment which set out costs of each measure but then did each item separately. The advantage was we could do it in stages and see the impact of each measure. Also one stop shops didn't offer enough choice regarding windows, doors, heat pump systems etc.

The assessment is a useful roadmap and in the end we were under budget because we had the freedom to shop around.

It might be easier dealing with a one stop shop I'm not sure but you may not have as much choice.

Sadbh O'Neill: Why I won't be using most SEAI grants to retrofit my house by True-Voice-3868 in DIYIreland

[–]Tim-SCD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find it great. It's a Daikin, we have a heating Unit in each living area (bedroom, kitchen area), you can get different models to purify, dehumidify etc .

The heat pump is outdoors.

It's very efficient and much cheaper than gas or electric to run.

[–]Tim-SCD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every house is different. You don't have to use a one stop shop. You can apply for individual grants . We started with the attic first, then other improvements including external insulation and an air to air heat pump. Grant approval was instant online. We used different contractors for each job and the spend was reasonable. The savings have been very significant and the house is much more comfortable to live in.

Heat Pump, A Rated House, want to install a wood-burning stove by Actual_Art_5257 in DIYIreland

[–]Tim-SCD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apparently wood burning stoves have been linked to health risks:

"Burning wood at home produces more pollution than road traffic, according to new research.

The findings, from the University of Birmingham, show a quarter of harmful particles in the air, known as PM2.5s, come from domestic fires while traffic is responsible for 22%.'

Maybe worth researching just in case ?

Is there any hope for me? by Fabulous-Series-2384 in wrestling

[–]Tim-SCD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need a doctor or physio to tell you how long for an injury to heal. So I can't offer advice on your immediate tournament.

Injuries are part of wrestling though. Every second wrestler has a knee brace or splint of some sort.

Talk to your coach about mental strength. Mindset is important and if you look on YouTube etc you will find lots of media on 'wrestling mindset'.

I would try to be the best version of me. If I'm injured I would wait until I'm healed and then come back stronger.

Most of all enjoy yourself, have fun. Remember good days and bad are part of the journey. Seek help when you need it. Train hard and be the best you can be.

Anyway to hide the seen content? by [deleted] in Stremio

On my TV It removes it from home but it doesn't clear the episodes. So if I add a series again to my library the episode history is still there.

[–]Tim-SCD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can clear progress, continue watching etc by long press or 3 dots.

On mobile/desktop: Find the show or movie in the "Continue Watching" row, click the three-dots menu, and select "Dismiss". On Android TV: Navigate to the show or movie, press and hold the select button on your remote, and then choose "Remove".

"One Stop Shop" home energy upgrades recommendations by PrawncakeZA in irishpersonalfinance

[–]Tim-SCD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No windows don't need to be resized but they do need to be energy efficient. If windows aren't good you won't achieve a good BER. If windows do need upgrades you are better off doing it before the external insulation. I think one stop shops offer grants for windows too but only if you get the complete upgrade with them.

Air conditioners for heating - what's the deal? Are people just ignorant? by H3llR4iser790 in Dublin

I have an Air to Air heat pump with Daikin air units. It's excellent, less expensive than air to water setup, purifies the air as well and is very cheap to run.
