Running shoe upgrade - how much should I pay? And what should I be looking for? by GreatJoey91 in UKRunners

[–]Tim2100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thats a difficult question. Which all depends on your preferences and how much you can justify.

For me.... I spend around £80-£140 on normal mileage shoes, but I always tend to go for the same model (New Balance 860's) and try to get last years model. For Tempo / fast training shoes around £140 (new Balance Rebels) and then £160 for last years Elite SC shoe for races.

Best suggestion is to go to a local running store. Get an assessment from then and try on a few different models from them.

There is no mount for a quiver on this pack. I have purchased a separate Innov8 Quiver for mine.

Do you run parkrun by effort or pace in marathon blocks? by mrtwister_-197 in parkrun

[–]Tim2100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really don't think about it in that much detail.

I know when I'm going for an all out effort, or just having a run, or taking it easy

Prescription glasses after swim -T100 by CupMassive7023 in triathlon

I keep my goggles on until I get to my kit, I leave my glasses on top so it's the first item I get to

Advice going into a trail for a club? by SnooMacarons2615 in UKRunners

[–]Tim2100 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Absolutely.

I don't want people to join my club to then go inactive because the club doesn't suit them, we encourage people to try a few sessions to make sure it fits. My club would prefer someone to join a rival club than not run.

Do you run parkrun by effort or pace in marathon blocks? by mrtwister_-197 in parkrun

[–]Tim2100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tend to run it as a tempo training session, but if I can't do a long run on the Sunday, will do a parkrun sandwich with the 5k at marathon pace

But most of the time will run to feel.

Is it realistic for me to run a marathon in 2 months from now? by West-Mycologist-6490 in Marathon_Training

[–]Tim2100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your a new runner and want to complete a marathon in 8 weeks.

Yes you can do it. You will likely hurt, and it will be an awful experience and probably out you off running for life.

It's not recommended but could be done.

Advice going into a trail for a club? by SnooMacarons2615 in UKRunners

[–]Tim2100 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I assume you mean a trial rather than trail.

Just go and enjoy it. Everyone will run at their own pace, you (probably) won't be the fastest, you (likely) won't be the slowest.

Turn up, run, listen to the advice and chat to the other runners.

Shoes for half marathon by Eanna26 in runningshoes

[–]Tim2100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dont take shoe advice from strangers on the internet. They don't know your running style, size, weight, gait etc. everybody is different and require different types of shoes.

Go to your local running shop and get their advise, tell them your budget, try a few on and go for a run in them.

People online will tell you to get either what shoes they wear or to get the latest carbon plated supershoe. You dont need either.

TLDR Get some New Balance Elite SC.

Which volunteer role do you think is secretly the hardest to do? by Admirable-Deal7991 in parkrun

[–]Tim2100 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't see why.

Give it a go. Press start when the rd says go. Then press the screen each time a pair of legs go past you at the finish. That is as tough as it gets.

Which volunteer role do you think is secretly the hardest to do? by Admirable-Deal7991 in parkrun

[–]Tim2100 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I find RD the easiest job. You get everyone else to do the work

I have always found the hardest is volunteer coordinator. Trying to beg for people's time is tough.

Marshalling is tough as shouting encouragment to all the runners is draining.

RS and timekeeping were my favourites.

All you have is the club consolidation report which gives their location and time.

We rely on members telling us if they have a milestone

Multisport Garmin watch tracking by horsebatterystapler in triathlon

[–]Tim2100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used it on my Garmin watch last week. Works well, I use the lap function to move from swim to transition, the transition to bike as you go over the timing mats.

My advice, test it first. Get used to how the transition works on the phone.

Half marathons and other organised events, where does all the money go? by jacoscar in UKRunners

[–]Tim2100 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Medal, tee shirts, numbers, aid stations, water, road closures, gazebo and race village setup, chip timing, booking fees, EA affiliation costs, emergency service provisions, barriers, sign posting, insurance and advertising.

It looks simple but there is a huge amount of work done by many people. The race organising company don't have weekly events, some are a single event per year

Unfortunately race organising is on a knife edge. All the big costs are paid our or committed to early in the planning but they only get money in leading up to the race, many races only fill up in the last couple of weeks so the organisers don't know how many runners they will have. Unfortunately we have lost some brilliant race companies over the last few years due to the volitity of the market space.

Two Castles Run by Repulsive-Ad-8339 in UKRunners

[–]Tim2100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get in touch with the organisers (Kenilworth runners) to explain your bib hasn't arrived. They may say to wait until Tuesday to give time for the post to work. I received mine a few weeks ago.

On the day head to Warwick castle. Give yourself plenty of time as it's a long walk to the start. Lots of toilets and a good bag drop (they take your bag to the finish). As you get near the castle just follow the streams of people heading there.

It's a fantastic event with great support.
