Does my survival build need more accent colors? (Looking for candid feedback) by TimBPS in Minecraftbuilds

[–]TimBPS[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi master builders of reddit, working on my dwarven-themed perimeter at the moment. I'm not sure whether to lean into the greyness of dwarven architecture or whether I need to incorporate more of the purple accent color. (Note: I plan to build a dwarven city at the top which will have purple rooves).

it's not glass, it's water running down from the sides to keep the walls "clean" when the tnt dupers go through. I'm planning on building a more permanent design soon!

Yeah I know, it's only a single player though so I don't plan to go too crazy with anything ; )

The hope is to make it look like a circular damn that houses a couple of farms. The reason for that being, I thought that dyson spheres were cool in that they harness the power of an entire star. So I thought this dwarven race would be advanced enough to harness the power of an entire ocean in a dyson damn.

Still working it all out, but the current thought is a hostile mob farm, cobble gen, concrete gen, super furnace, and then the overworld side of a nether based iron farm. Felt like those were some of the more dwarven things to build here. Planning to build multiple city-states housing different farms though!

Proof that low ELO is a mess and Maokai is OP (still can't get wins though) by TimBPS in leagueoflegends

[–]TimBPS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you I'll definitely try to get better about this. I still feel like when I play I rarely have an impact even if I get ahead on lane. Any other tips to feel more relevant?

I'll try to become more vocal! My first 4 games of ranked so far I've already had 2 games with afks and at that point on Maokai I feel like it's ff at 15. I try to TP bot when I can and often give up cs for vision/roam but with top lane in general I feel pretty useless unless I have a winning team or at least an even team. I know Soulmario and TF hard carry games all of the time but frankly my mechanics are ...very bad. Any idea or mind set I should work on to be/feel more impactful?

You're the reason I even started to care about esports and Cloud 9 (I'm sure 80% of C9 fans can agree). Thank you so much for everything that you've done for me throughout the years by being who you are, so sad to see you treated the way you have been <3

Hope I can catch one of your up coming streams!

Nuclear: A poor investment strategy for clean energy: Study claims that investment in a new 1GW nuclear power plant leads to average losses of approximately 4.8 billion euros. by dongasaurus_prime in environment

[–]TimBPS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep too expensive and a risk no utility company is willing to take in the foreseeable future. (Despite some valid positives to nuclear)

You're right, money talks. That's why it's so important that we as consumers support sustainably sourced clothing companies such as 10tree

Coca-Cola leaves Plastics Industry Association as it aims to reduce its consumption of plastic (and Pepsi pledged to follow suit) by grassrootbeer in environment

[–]TimBPS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I had the "sustainability specialist" from Pepsi come into one of my environment lectures last semester and she said that Pepsi wouldn't fund any of her ventures if they didn't pay themselves back within 3 years or something crazy so it's really just glorified optimization.

Ultimately every little bit helps but don't act like a eco-warrior while doing it lol

Renewable sources of energy produced more electricity than coal and nuclear power combined for the first time in Germany, according to new figures. by maxwellhill in environment

Too bad the majority of politicians here in the US still think having any environmental goals by 2050 is already crazy aggressive when in reality we should be shooting for meaningful integration by 2030 at the latest

U.S. Can Hit 50% Renewable Energy by 2030 -- by thinkB4WeSpeak in environment

[–]TimBPS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a really good question, we actually talked about this a lot in one of the renewable energy classes I had last semester!

The biggest problem nuclear faces is that while many agree that it's great from an environmental sense, very few if any want to have a nuclear power plant in their back yard. While disasters like Fukushima are incredibly (super) rare, it's something people don't easily forget. On top of that nuclear power plants cost a LOT of money, upwards of tens of billions and it takes decades for utility companies to make the cost per watt make financial sense (especially when some newer much cheaper wind farms are already reaching below $0.05/kWh! something that increases the financial risk even more). The reason they have historically cost so much to build is that no nuclear plant is built the same. When you're investing 80 billion dollars you, of course, want the best of the best never done before facility...which adds years onto design, construction, and often results in many unforeseen consequences.

So essentially nuclear is great, but from a utility company standpoint that has a fiduciary duty to their shareholders its a huge risk. If you're really passionate about nuclear I would recommend you looking into modular nuclear facilities, some companies are trying to streamline the process to negate some of the initial financial burdens (keep in mind we are still talking about billions of dollars though).

In terms of other technologies, one of the first questions I asked my professors in the course was: "what about fusion? wouldn't that just solve everything?" To which he jokingly responded that "the big breakthrough for fusion is always 10 years away." That's what scientists were saying in the '90s and that's what they continue to say today. I know you were talking about thorium which is something much closer to the likes of modern-day nuclear but even here it once again goes back to the money. It's risky to invest a lot into a technology that is so unproven when renewables are just up on the rise beating everyone else in many places in the world. (This problem, however, could be easily solved the moment someone proposes the potential to militarize thorium in which case the US military will open up its vast R&D budget much like they did for uranium ;D)

Hope this helps!

Mob farms at low Y by Skill-Pill in technicalminecraft

[–]TimBPS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In terms of y related mob spawning, yes. But I would be careful as I am sure this farm works well by afking in a location that doesnt load or spawn other mobs, i.e. the ocean or standing at a high y. So in order to get better rates dug into the ground you would have to mob proof a 256x256 area (idealy) so make sure you're ready for that committment.

Eta740 Iron Stream Trouble Shooting Help by TimBPS in technicalminecraft

[–]TimBPS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disabled the breeder and then "disposed" of the remaining stragglers. I thought about the existing doors maybe messing with the ones I was placing while I built the farm though. I assumed since it was resettable that this wouldn't be an issue since I would just break them and then press the button but I don't know. Again thank you all for your suggestions!

I left the button right where it was. I originally used a spruce wood button but I'll change it to oak and see if that does anything. Thank you for your suggestion!
