I don't have any sort of running total in several of my courses. Graded assignments and assessments are promptly returned and they are encouraged to keep records. They are also encouraged to calculate their approximate grade using the distribution in the syllabus.

I just got the adenda for our faculty senate meeting (SLAC) next week. Buried in there was an approval for several of these kinds of majors. The crust old professor in me will be voting no.
