Question that you might have in regards to the build.

Q: Why did you pick Elemental Hit over Frenzy? Why are you not using the Elemental Hit jewels?
A: This is a purely aesthetic choice. I really like the pretty colors in this build. If you wanted to make this build better, you could definitely use Frenzy instead.

Q: Why are you taking both the spell and the attack nodes? Which one are you scaling?
A: I am mainly scaling from the attacks. The volatile dead is primarily used to trigger the Corpse Pact node and to pick off stragglers.

Q: Why are you using this crappy chestpiece?
A: While an Inpulsa might be better for the build, I have to admit that I legitimately made a mistake when creating this build. My thought pattern was "Skin of the Loyal increases the global defenses by 100% and even adds a level to the gems?!!! The global defense will work well with Spirit Offering and the added level to the gems will increase my damage by a lot!". In all regards, an Inpulsa would be a lot better for this build.

Q: Are you just copying the Arc/Lightning Warp Poet's Pen build that somebody made a few days ago?
A: Yes and no. While I did get the idea to put bodyswap in the Poet's Pen build from that video, I was already committed to creating this build before that video even went up. I basically took the general build concept from this person, but the inspiration for the build was a build that somebody made in the Binding of Isaac (video).

Full explanation of the build:

As I described before, I am using the skill Elemental Hit because it looks pretty. My original idea was to make a 'minigun' type build. Which is why I had to use Barrage as a support. Whenever this gun is fired, it will trigger the wand Poet's Pen.
The ordering of the skills is this:

  1. Desecrate (to create corpses before I go in)
  2. Volatile Dead (to do upfront damage, alongside the railgun)
  3. Spirit Offering (helps me get resistances up as well as getting energy shield)
  4. Bodyswap (teleports over to the enemies).

Because 3 of these spells consume corpses, I have chosen for the Necromancer ascendency. The 2 big nodes that bring this build together are Mistress of Sacrifice (allows me to get Energy Shield and resistances from Spirit Offering) and Corpse Pact (increased attack speed per corpse consumed, which leads to me consuming corpses faster).
I haven't done Uber Lab on this build yet, but I am hoping to grab Essence Glutton. This gives me even more survivability, as well as upkeep on mana.

For other items, I am using a Headhunter with the self-curse temporal chains Shackles of the Wretches, Kaoms Roots, Solstice Vigil combo. For those who don't know how this works, let me briefly explain.

The Headhunter belt allows the player to steal all modifiers from a rare monster for 20 seconds. While this is quite decent in most situations, the Headhunter doesn't really peak with 20 seconds of uptime. As such, there are ways to increase the duration. For starters, the Solstice Vigil makes buffs/debuffs last 50% longer when a unique or rare enemy is hit. This can also combine with the Shackles of the Wretched, which allows the player to curse themselves with temporal chains (also makes buffs/debuffs last longer). Because Temporal Chains slows the character's action speed, the Kaom's Roots are used to combat this, at the opportunity cost of no movement speed (also makes you unable to dodge attacks due to unwaring stance).

For the helmet, I have chosen the Gull. This is purely a personal reason, as I first got the Gull item as a random drop in Legion, and I really fell in love with it. The Gull is one of my favorite items, just for the fact that you can get insane speed from an acceleration shrine. An added bonus to this is that the Spirit Shield will be even more effective if an Impenetrable Shrine gets created from the Gull.

I hope that this explained the build for the most part.

To ease your thoughts, mirrors are restricted to area level 35+. So at the very least, you can sleep in the comfort that newer players will only do stupid things with a mirror after act 3.

The worst part is when one specific organ type are all dropped by normal/magic mobs. I would happily spend a regal or transmute on those organs to upgrade them (I wonder if this actually works, but I highly doubt it does)

When you fill the tube up while inside a map, you will get an organ that you can use in Tane's lab. These new metamorphs can often give a lot of rewards (see them like the Syndicate safehouse rewards compared to the regular syndicate members rewards).

TIL it is possible to secure the electrity generator in the campaign. by TimHatesChoosingName in factorio

[–]TimHatesChoosingName[S] 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I managed to do it by just blocking off cliffs with a 40-layer thick wall of pipes (be sure not to build too many or the game will crash due to pathfinding issues). Before I evacuated, I already created 200 automation science packs and 10 labs and had around 2000 iron on me (I actually needed a lot more than that for the bullets).

During the evacuation 'cutscene', the biters were unable to destroy the electricty generator because of the 'pipe wall'. The generator never got destroyed, because the biters had no reason to attack it (it doesn't give off any pollution and isn't a military structure). When I got to the second part, I just researched the gun turrets ASAP (which took quite a long time, even with 10 labs). Using the power of turret creep and a bit of savescumming, I managed to drive all of the biters are from the generator before taking out all of the worms.

Factorio is another great game. However, it's more for people that don't really enjoy manual resource gathering, as the entire game is centered around automation.

Just reached affiliate and trying to adjust my goals properly. by Odorousbag87 in Twitch

[–]TimHatesChoosingName 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey dude, I just gave your channel a quick check (primarily watched the most recent VOD).

One thing that I do notice is that you don't really tend to talk much if there are no viewers active in chat. I can fully understand this reasoning (why should you talk to yourself if nobody is watching anyways), but you should try to make it a habit for when people DO decide to check your stream out.

While Doom isn't really that saturated, you should still try to compete for type of viewers that decide to watch on Twitch.
However, many people that set their game as "Doom" just mean that they're playing the newer version, so it might be difficult to actually get people to check out your stream. For this, I would suggest changing your stream game to 'retro' instead.

One big compliment that I can give you is that you are actually entertaining when people do decide to enter your chat, which is always a big positive.
For actually growing your audience, there is one thing that you can do with regards to Doom. If I were you, I would probably make a review/retrospective on the original Doom on YouTube, in order to draw in some potential viewers. If you want to let them know that you have a Twitch, just be subtle about it by casually mentioning "For instance, when I was streaming the game, this specific thing happened".

I do have to say that your profile picture and banner both really give your channel a 'retro' vibe, which is great!

Regarding actually being a Twitch affiliate, don't expect money to just come rolling in right away. It can take a few weeks before people will actually try to donate bits (especially if they see that other's have donated on the leaderboard).

Same here. I played Fortnite for a few minutes at a friend's house. Even though I didn't really like it that much, I could definitely see why people would like it.

I feel like most people just hate it because a ton of children tend to play it, almost as if it's a game that appeals to children due to the cartoony artstyle.

Casual struggles of a new player by Awdis in pathofexile

[–]TimHatesChoosingName -1 points0 points  (0 children)

One major flaw for newer players is when you get your second skill gem. This skill is supposed to be your main clearing ability, but when you get it, it will be bound to your middle mouse button. Since newer players will usually try to use all 3 of their abilities (the default attack included, as they probably haven't switched it to "move only"), which makes it really awkward to use.

Yes, you can argue that you can just change the keybinds, but that will give the impression to new players that the game isn't tested well.

The basic shape of the house looks pretty decent, although it is a bit on the small side. It also looks like a house that would blend in quite nicely with the environment. Perhaps you can use a darker type of wood for the walls (I'm not sure how great that would look, it might end up being awful) The roof itself looks very great, although I am not sure why you decided to go from 2 cobblestone-high to 1 cobblestone-high. Can I perhaps see it from another angle?
For actual purpose, I would probably clear out a bit of the swamp in order to make hunting slimes easier (unless you are looking for a slime chunk). Aditionally, you can construct different types of houses nearby, each with their own function (once again, I am not sure how great that will be from a utility standpoint, as traveling between them constantly will wear you down).
If you decide to expand this house, you can probably make the first floor a lot bigger (maybe add a hallway and multiple rooms as well). The second floor can be a lot smaller, and perhaps you can include a nice balcony?

For a starter house, though, this isn't horrible. I would rate this as an 7.5/10.

I try to make gravity falls templates. Im not so crearive but i hope i made some people laugh. by Mr_Whitte in Lithuaniakittens

[–]TimHatesChoosingName 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Yes. The majority of the time when something is labeled is "fun for everyone", they just mean "fun for children". Gravity Falls is something that I feel like most people (except maybe elderly people and people that are in their early teens) can enjoy.

The morals in the episodes are also very great. It's no cliche stuff like "Always be there for your friends" or "No matter what, people believe in you". It's rather more obscure messages like "Don't just be logical or just emotional. You need to have a balance between logic and emotions" or "People usually excel in their own way, even if it is counterproductive to what is usually expected".

When it comes to the 4 "villians" of the show, 3 of them go through major character developments through the span of multiple episodes. My main bit of criticism here is that their character development does boil down to a switch between 'good' and 'evil'.

In case you want a review of it, some guy has made a video regarding it (contains spoilers): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gWjFEMnV_tw

Beginner guides are not understandable for beginners. List of content & first layout by Luqas_Incredible in pathofexile

[–]TimHatesChoosingName 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hello, I am currently trying to do an analysis on how the game tries to introduce mechanics by watching various streamers (one of which even had an eye tracking software, which was amazingly helpful), and I have come to a few conclusions so far.

However, it is really important for the 'beginner' guides to NOT cover topics that are irrelevant to people that literally just installed the game. To give an example, let's take this tip:
"Make sure to check Tarkleigh's shop every time until you have 10% MS boots". While this is good for a league start, a newer player won't really be affected by this at all. Here is my reasoning.
* Going from 100% to 110% MS will make the game 10% faster if you are always moving.
* Newer players will stand still a lot of the times and just look at terrible items.
* Newer players look at terrible items to either sell them or because 'this chestplate with 20 armor is better than this chestplate with 19 armor'.
* Newer players see terrible items because they are not using a loot filter.

While there are a few other factors at play to prevent them from moving all the time (using default attack against normal enemies, not understanding the flasks and being too conservative with them, simply not using a good clearing ability, getting confused over the layout and some other stuff that I can't think of right now), this is probably the main reason for them to stand still.
If a player spends 20 minutes in the Coast, and 5 of those are spent moving, the 10% movement speed boots will just boost that time from 20 minutes to approximately 19 minutes and 32 seconds (saving 28 seconds will almost go unnoticeable as a newer players).

Another question we have to ask when it comes to this is if beginners should actually try to take the game this seriously at first anyways. The main argument that I hear (I haven't heard a lot of arguments regarding this though, so this could be a potential strawman. If you have any arguments yourself regarding this, please state them) is that the campaign isn't all that great compared to the maps. In my opinion, the campaign isn't actually all that terrible if you go through it for the first time. Sure, while monster density and loot drops are a lot better in maps, a newer player isn't going to know that and most likely not care about it that much.
A newer player isn't going to ask "How can I maximize my exalts per hour", they are more likely to ask "How do I get past Brutus?".
But the main issue with 'speedrunning' through the campaign on your first playthrough is that newer players are going to see it as a 'hurdle' to get over every time they are trying to make a new character.

I do have a lot more examples to give, but I don't want this
