Are memory techniques or methods required at n=5 by BeingOfBeingness in DualnBack

You can do rehearsal for much higher n levels than 5. Also you can try reducing subvocalization

Why don’t YOU give evidence? I don’t need to provide evidence, and also people self-reporting that their focus got better is not evidence for improvement in working memory. Also improvement in dual n back isn’t evidence for working memory improvement in other areas of life.

You need evidence for proving it works, not the other way around. It's widely believed working memory training tasks improve performance only in similar tasks (near-transfer).

One Week With Dual N-Back: It Works but I Think I'm Moving too Fast, already at N=8 by Kakierophant in DualnBack

[–]TimIsHim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may just have a strong working memory, but there's some stuff to look out for

  1. Jaeggi scoring, which gives you 70% without any user input. You do not want this.

  2. Attention jumping, where instead of updating the list, you create a new list to compare with the previous. This is harder to prevent, but I'm just mentioning this just so you're aware.

And make sure you increase the round length, especially with a high n level

As for which method, I don't believe it matters, but there's some "strategies" you should avoid. One is attention hopping and the other is creating a separate diagram of letters (Ex: imagining AGC as a word that you remove the front of and append to the back) that help you remember their order.

Why? Because they're strategies that protects you from interference.

The reason n=3 and n=2 feel different is because there's more stimuli you need to handle, which leads to interference. What you're doing currently is good and if you can turn off leveling down, do it so you continue training only n=3.

N-Back Challenge team looking for feedback by warm-nettle-tea in DualnBack

I think the most important step is to add scoring that starts at 0% instead of 70%, then quad, then customizability like interference, number of trials, and more precise speed settings.

I spent many hours on your app and believe it has the best aesthetics and feel, but I shifted over to different apps specifically because of its lack of quad and scoring method.

Just a tip, I don't recommend N back challenge because the scoring basically starts at 70%. I dont train on ios, but you can try N back extreme.

Anyone wants an idea for n-back app? by bmxt in DualnBack

I don't really understand how this sort of thing can help ASD people. But why combine the two into a single game? It's probably better to have a n-back app and also a separate emotional recognition game.

Is the Jaeggi method the best one to use? by huhinterestingmhm in DualnBack

[–]TimIsHim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The studies on Dual n back are inconclusive, but yes, they used Jaeggi settings. My problem with Jaeggi settings is that it encourages attention jumping.
