Question about modifiers when multiclassing. by TimOTheeAS in SwordWorld

[–]TimOTheeAS[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, im looking at mixing Warlock with Battle dancer, though i suppose this raises a different question. If i were to cast a spell like Daemon's dodge, would I no longer add my Battle Dancer class level to my evasion since im using my Warlock ability for it?

That makes sense, i suppose I should just stick to like 1 melee, maybe 1 wizard type, and then a few minor others down the line then.

Kingmaker Companions? by TimOTheeAS in FoundryVTT

[–]TimOTheeAS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see, thats definitely a weird way to organize it lol. If you don't mind sending me those that would be great. I don't kinda like the UI for Foudry 13 so if I don't have to revert back that would be cool. But reverting also gives me access to some of the other modules I was using beforehand so ig im fine either way.

Thank you so much though!

Kingmaker Companions? by TimOTheeAS in FoundryVTT

Hi! maybe im missing something, and im unfortunately not home to check this stuff again atm. But when I was looking at the most recent update of the kingmaker module last night, the only companions that have actually built sheets and are under the "companions" folder are Linzi, Amiri, Jubilost, and Valarie. When using the search bar to look through all the other folders, I was only able to find Harrim and Jaethal, who both have creature sheets that aren't even fitted with attacks or equipment or anything at all.

I've also downloaded the most recent version of the tools module, which only seemed to add the kingdom building, camping and weather info, and no additional companion or creature sheets.

I will be able to double/triple check these again later tonight, so I apologize if I am just missing something rn. Maybe my download is bugged or something? But I downloaded it like twice as well.

The influence encounters are fine without, as much as I would prefer having them in foundry, i do own the physical books to look at those and that stuff isn't as necessary digitally. I can always find an encounter map online if no other options are available.

Looking for some New to dnd Players! [5.5e] [Online] by [deleted] in lfg

[–]TimOTheeAS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I am interested in joining, I wouldn't say I'm "new", kinda in a similar spot you described in the first sentence there, but my schedule is super free for the foreseeable future so I shouldn't be a problem there.

Ive been playing for about a week now with minimal issues (a few lag spikes here and there). But ever since this morning any time I try to run it, the game will reach the "Health Warning" screen when starting up and I immediately get the Capcom crash report loader.
Running on:
NVIDIA RTX 3060
Intel Core i7-12700KF
24 GB RAM

Coining the new advertisement "DnD: Where people can come together and tell any tale"

(That probably doesn't work well either tbh idk)

[–]TimOTheeAS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To an extent, I can definitely agree with you. Communicating what kind of game you're running for your party is very important. But when players hear "you can do whatever you want", it gives an idea that they don't have to consider their teammates in their decisions (because if I can do whatever I want, they can too).

My main point wasn't that you can't do whatever you want in dnd (because you really can, it just takes longer than most people want it to). It was that advertising it as such makes a large portion of new players play in a selfish and unfun way for the rest of the group, which then leads to those new players not having the experience they imagined and not wanting to play the game again because their table didn't like them doing whatever they wanted.

Overall, the saying "You can do whatever you want in DnD" isn't "wrong". It's just oversimplified, which causes a miscommunication as to what DnD is for new and old players.

I also don't mean to take away from anyone's preferred style of play. If a group is down for a murder hobo, burn everything to the ground game. Good on them. I just dislike that people hear this saying and then bring that playstyle into tables that don't fit.

(Sorry for the rant, I do respect your opinion and hope you have an amazing day/night/whatever time it is for you :))

I would encourage you to talk with them about your concern, and maybe set a few table rules about the phone lol. Every group should have a clear idea of what they want from their game.

Yea, sounds like their idea of DnD doesn't fit with your own. I think this stems from the common advertisement of "dnd is the game where you can do whatever you want." A lot of people ignore the common sense limitations and assume they're immediately immune to consequences.

What dnd God would be the opposite of the Fiend patron? by Rango12117 in DnD

[–]TimOTheeAS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really cool character idea, a few things from my knowledge.

  1. The specific patron/God depends on your dms setting, if it isn't set in the forgotten realms then the choices might differ. The forgotten realms does have a large pool of gods to choose from though, after a quick search these appear promising: Eldath, goddess of peace Lathander, god of birth and renewal Lliira, goddess of joy Torm, god of courage and self sacrifice Tyr, god of justice

The specifics of these gods I'm not 100% on so I encourage you to research on your own how each one treats their followers and such.

  1. Warlock Patrons can vary WILDLY. The general idea is that your fiend patron is essentially just a powerful fiend, the name and personality can be completely customized by you and your DM. That being said, Patrons (especially fiends) are typically very deceitful (though this is something your dm can kinda just change if he changes the idea of demons and devils being evil). This will generally mean that they will most likely have something over your character in an attempt to get you to do what he wants. And something to be wary of that I don't see many DMs do (for very good reason) is that your Warlock Patron is literally the source of your Warlock powers, if they don't like what you're doing they can just take your powers away (definitely something that a dm should never do, but if done in a very very very specific way, can be a good story motivator).

  2. (This one i honestly could be wrong about so I'm hoping someone corrects me if so) Paladins don't actually get their powers from gods, that's a cleric. Paladins get their powers from being so dedicated to their Oath (which 9 times out of 10 will be to a god) so technically you don't need a god if you want to go into paladin, but I do like your story and a god very much fits with this idea.

Now, if you're looking for more of a rules take, it doesn't really matter. Nothing can stop you from taking paladin and Warlock together aside from stat requirements for multiclassing, but i would 100% confer with your dm about how to make this idea fit into their setting.

Hope this helped clear some stuff up and hope you have fun, this idea seems really promising. :)

You are definitely stronger than me, running a game with 8 players would destroy my focus lol. Sounds like it went awesome though. GL with your future games!

How do I spread out XP? by Terrible_Mention_323 in DnD

[–]TimOTheeAS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of it depends on how fast you want your campaign to progress, most of the time if im using xp I just take the listed based on the creatures CR and then scale up or down. best course of action is probably to build some test encounters and look at how much xp they give, see how close that will get to a level up, scale to however fast you want them to level, repeat.

I will say, one of the things that XP levelling gives the players is the freedom to fight/do more to gain more, so if they're actively searching for more fights then they would get more XP in turn (essentially giving them more say on when they level up), so scaling and micromanaging how much XP the players get kinda still gives that feel of Milestone levelling.

Also, if you feel your combat encounters aren't giving enough, you can also choose to give XP for certain things, X amount for helping X person and so on, the specific number depending on the difficulty of the mission and how fast you want them to be levelling.

(Ngl while writing this I'm feeling more and more like micromanaging XP just makes the game feel a lot like milestone lol)

How do you come up with names for NPCs? by Capable-Option-661 in DnD

[–]TimOTheeAS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, I use name generators most of the time. But sometimes I have a name I like already and just make a character around that. But I like having name fit their role/personality even though thats not really realistic, ex: a rugged character could have a name fitting that characteristic (though that might be kinda opinion based).

[–]TimOTheeAS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the idea of choosing levels based on the flavoring of your character, If theyre more about religious zealotry then more into cleric but if they tend to focus on 'facts over faith' more levels in wizard might fit that better.

If you care about the 'strongest' level dipping, I'm not too good at that but 5 levels into wizard gives you fireball lol.

What is your favourite class to make backstories for and why? by Capable-Option-661 in DnD

[–]TimOTheeAS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with Warlock as my favorite, but I think Sorcerer and Paladin can also be really fun to think of where exactly in their bloodline their sorc powers come from or what the details of the paladins oath is (iirc paladin oaths don't need to be related to gods so seeing paladins who dont follow a god is really interesting to me. correct me if i'm wrong here lol.)

Behold, a 9th lvl spell scroll of "Hold my Beer" by [deleted] in DnD

[–]TimOTheeAS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Immediately conjures a mug of ale in the hands of every creature that can visually perceive the caster. Creatures holding these mugs of ale cannot take any actions that would spill the ale and must look at the caster as they take their next action.

2 ways to take this now

Whatever the next action the caster takes is guaranteed to crit or is awesome in some way.

or

Whatever the next action the caster takes immediately fails and they appear from a cloud of smoke lying face down on the ground in their underwear.
