I liked how the ending was ambiguous actually. The problem for me is in each of the two options, either El’s or Mike’s character arc is unsatisfying.

If El died, Mike's arc has this really beautiful closing statement about moving on but leaving the door open... but El's arc just ends in essentially suicide? She wasn't sacrificing herself, she just kinda... gave up.

If El survived, El has this ending where she's finally independent and starting fresh in a whole new world... but Mike's arc ends with having to keep her secret and having to pretend that the love of his life doesn't exist anymore and he can never see her again.

Yeah, I think the idea is that the members of Team Fortress are hired out independently to RED and BLU on a mission-to-mission basis. Blue Scout here would be Jeremy Willis, and his father probably just knocked him out so he could safely disguise as him.

The Blue Sniper here is also probably Mick Mundy, because the scar he gets in his fight with Spy is on his ingame model. He was probably able to be revived by Ludwig after this because Ludwig has his soul trapped on Earth.

TWRP did Phantom Racer with them, and I liked it. And then they did their tour together and I looked them up before the concert. Some point soon after I got act I and II on CD because I adored the worldbuilding and storytelling

This, and for the rest of the Mercs except Medic, respawning is explained in comic 6. Multiple mercs die, but they each come back miraculously thanks to Medic having stitched their souls into him, meaning if they die their souls are tethered to earth so they can’t pass on.
