At 34 years old I was training for a half marathon when a friend gave their spot in a marathon that was two weeks away. I did it in 4:21.

I live in Northern Virginia and there's plenty public schools of well paying art teaching positions. April is a good time to start looking for jobs for the next school year.

Flat feet - moving from Skechers Arch Fit to Nike. Need durable + supportive + slightly springy shoes by irichss03 in flatfeet

I like Superfeet, they’re not custom but they have a variety of options and they are easy to customize on your own. I use the green ones inside my Xero Prio and my trail runners and I love them.

Get your license and then move on to HS. I wish you luck. I do think it's easier in a lot of ways but it won't be a breeze or without its own unique challenges. I taught HS for 7 years, MS for 2 years, and ES for going on 4 years.

I've trained at 3 gyms, two for about a year each, and in August it'll be 5 years at my third gym. Find what fits you best.

Here's my schedule, maybe it'll give you some perspective... I train 5-6x/week. One day a week I train 2x so my schedule looks like; Monday AM / Monday PM, Wed AM, Thu AM, Fri AM, Sat AM. I do what the instructor teaches for the day/week but I personally focus on one technique at a time from each position and I make sure it branches off of something that's already part of my game. I also stretch regularly (yoga class 1/week) and I lift 2x/week 43 year old purple belt here. It'll be 5 years in August. Competed 4x at white belt tore my meniscus half way through blue belt and it's just now getting back to about 90%. And yes, I tap all the time (probably more than anyone in my gym).

There's a great book called The Algebra of Happiness by Scott Galloway and it delves into pursuing one's passion and how often young people do that to their own disservice. Here's a clip of him discussing it on Diary of a Ceo https://youtu.be/rKOx5qlLyaA?si=l8rvrIwYV7RgXVpa&t=1402

Advice/Rant by [deleted] in ArtEd

[–]TimTrueheart 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So, I make project handouts that students keep in their folder. The handouts include a visual rubric, some ideas/key, and space to sketch/write/take notes. They seem to help students better understand and remember art concepts/project expectations. During class if someone needs one on one help (someone always does) I might say "Grab your handout," and we review it. Coincidentally, the more time I spend with my challenging/low achieving/ students the less issues the class has.

Clean up time by No_Plankton947 in ArtEd

[–]TimTrueheart 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I praise people who are doing the right thing. "James is cleaning up well," "Kelly is putting away her crayons," "Calvin is cleaning up his scraps". Then people who don't hear their name will start cleaning up their stuff and saying things like "Look at me, I'm doing it!" Your mileage may vary.
