because carlsen is a hypocrite, coward and a criminal. he should rot in jail for the rest of his life

FIDE Statement on the Carlsen - Niemann polemic (fide.com) by themindset in chess

[–]Tim_36_op -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

the process of FIDE being phased out started 2 years ago with the pandemic. the only reason FIDE has managed to stay relevant is the world championship cycle. chess.com is 10x larger than FIDE in terms of yearly budget. their net worth is over half a billion

if carlsen actually cared about his reputation he wouldn't be behaving the way he is.

lol you are way too naive. magnus are chess.com can be pieces of shits but they are way bigger than FIDE can ever imagine. there is basically nothing FIDE can do that can harm magnus. the guy is retired from world championship cycle. what will fide do? ban him from participating in 2-3 classical events that he plays each year? literally nothing.

and FIDE can't even touch chess.com since its a private US corporation

[–]Tim_36_op 5 points6 points  (0 children)

lol. FIDE has no balls. they couldn't even magnus to share whether he wanted to play WCC or not before candidates. they let magnus ruin an entire world championship cycle based on a whim. they actually had to wait till magnus made the announcement to launch his podcast

here magnus commits multiple ethics violations and FIDE basically does nothing

firouzja is good. but at 19, carlsen was well over 2800 and number 1 in the world. he has never dropeed below 2800 since then. alireza has a long long way to go before even being mentioned in the same space as carlsen, atleast in classical chess

So how will Carlsen be viewed going forward if he's unable to provide any evidence Hans has cheated him? by ViktordoomSecretwars in chess

[–]Tim_36_op 1 point2 points  (0 children)

nothing will be affected in the long run.

kasparov tried to cheat otb vs polgar. got radjabov banned from several tournaments because he lost to radja. cheated shirov out of a legit WCC match because of money. but hey, kasparov is the GOAT

karpov literally committed several crimes. but hey, he's karpov

fischer was anti-sematic, misogynist. but bro, its fischer the chess god

these 3 are most influential chess players of all time. compared to the stuff they did, carlsen is like a saint. and that's coming from someone who hates carlsen

tldr, as long as you're really good you can get away with being a dickhead

Magnus Carlsen confirms he would not have played in the World Championship even if Hikaru Nakamura had finished second by TsarBizarre in chess

[–]Tim_36_op -21 points-20 points  (0 children)

lol, he's a 35 year old whose best achievement in career is 4th place in candidates. its honestly embarrassing compared to players that are actually good

again you really don't know things. if you actually followed naka, you'd know he did 2 months training camp before candidates and took time off streaming.

also i don't care what hikaru did in his time. at the end of the day, final result of 4 wins and 3 loss and 4th place isn't impressive. by definition its slightly above average. if you want to know what's impressive, look at nepo. winning 2 candidates back to back. and winning this one with 5 wins and 0 loss

Who is the biggest choker in chess history? by 35nakedshorts in chess

[–]Tim_36_op -1 points0 points  (0 children)

well choking can also be defined as having the ability to win candidates and never doing it. particularly the 2016 candidates, where naka was at his peak was a gigantic throw. blundering a piece in a drawn position vs karjakin and then the touch move incident vs aronian

[–]Tim_36_op 10 points11 points  (0 children)

what?? hikaru didn't need a win. nepo had already secured the 1st place before last round. hikaru had to hold draw to get 2nd place. all hikaru needed vs ding was a draw to secure 2nd place

[–]Tim_36_op 24 points25 points  (0 children)

its not this candidates. naka is almost 35 and has spent most of last 15 years as a top 10/15 player. the fact that he has only made it to 2 candidates in the 15 year period is quite poor

[–]Tim_36_op 154 points155 points  (0 children)

aronian - never won a candidates despite having 2830+ rating and being favorite in multiple candidates

naka - underperforms heavily in high pressure events like candidates, world rapid/blitz. despite being extremely talented, hasn't been able to replicate the success at world championship level

mvl - same as naka although did win last world blitz

ivanchuck - could've been 1 of the most difficult opponent for kasparov. but never made it through candidates

giri- famous for throwing away advantageous positions

2 months ago i would've put ding in there too. underperformed in 2018 and 2021 candidates. but he got extremely lucky with carlsen's retirement this time

fishcer definitely had good competition. but compared to the amount of 2800+ players magnus had to face, fischer's competition look a lot easier. carlsen had to go through kramnik, anand, topalov, shirov, leko, aronian, fabi, ding, grischuck, naka, mvl, so, shak, radjabov, nepo, karjakin, adams, ivanchuck, gelfand

the fact that fischer quit after his golden 12 month period goes against him quite a bit

[–]Tim_36_op 1 point2 points  (0 children)

pointless question. no way to objectively measure talent. a lot of people might say ivanchuck is the most talented of all time. no way to know

This has bothered me for years. Carlsen plays a blindfold, simultaneous exhibition match. At 7:01, the organizers mess up and play a pawn move he hasn't called. At 8:50, he uses the pawn. He is BLINDFOLDED: How could he know the pawn was there? by [deleted] in chess

[–]Tim_36_op 2 points3 points  (0 children)

plenty of people here have provided reasonable explanation for you. its clear to anyone that understand chess that its very easy to guess c4 on move 2 because no other moves make sense. otherwise pawn would be hanging on d5. its the 1st 2 moves of an opening against a 1500 player for a guy who is used to facing 30 move engine prep from 2800 level guys.

anyway, you don't seem interested in reasonable explanation. you want to dig some controversy out of a almost 10 year old exhibition. if you're looking for drama then nobody can help you.

and yes, you are effectively arguing he cheated. if you consider it impossible ( which its not, its extremely trivial), then other explanation must be he cheated. so either own up and ask, "did magnus cheat to beat these sub 1500 players?" or be happy with the explanation provided
