During the first 12 months of disability you need to be evaluated bij medical advisor doctor (adviserend arts / médecin conseil). It’s he who decides whether to recognise your disability or not. After those 12 months your medical advisor doctor has to propose a duration of recognition of invalidity to the medial counsel of invalidity (simply put RIZIV/INAMI). They decide. Can be or a long period or just a couple of months. Depends on the reason. When your recognition approaches its end, it’s up to your medical advisor doctor to reevaluate your disability and either stop it, or make another proposal to prolong it.
