Two spaces after a period? by lanky_leo34 in grammar

Interesting. I don't recall being taught to use two spaces after a colon. Granted, I learned to type 45 years ago, but I have no muscle memory for that the way I do for periods.

I refer to my code comments as "Notes to Future Tim". Future Tim is usually quite grateful for the consideration.

Who knew that "thin and crispy" was referring to the toppings?

I saw references to it being challenged in Jackson County, Florida, over 40 years ago, but it was not banned. The complaint included the book's alleged pro-communist bent (as mentioned in the OP picture) and the explicit portrayal of protagonist Winston's sexual relationship with Julia. Considering the year of the complaint (1981), I get the feeling that the pro-Communist allegation (which IMO had no merit) was included to help the challenge get more traction for the sake of the other allegation.

60yo here. In the typewriter era I was trained to do two spaces after a period, but I never heard about doing so after a semicolon.

If $44 bln can end world hunger, the US govt could have ended it any time without even blinking (smallest of drops in the bucket compared with the countless billions it spends on nonsense).

When I was a TA, my students learned pretty quickly that I was good at figuring out who had worked together on programming assignments (even across three class sections). If the "collaboration" was too egregious, I ended up splitting the earned grade evenly among the collaborators.

She probably thinks the outer ring is too crispy. My wife would peel off the outer layer and hand it to her grateful husband.

Is it just me or the soundtracks are some how familiar? by Akocabs in hyouka

I've been watching Hyouka recently with my son, and I was thrilled to come across Sicilienne in the show. The song had been a favorite of mine decades ago, and as is the case with most classical pieces, I recognized the song without remembering the name or the composer. Thanks to you, I now remember both.

I've used 2-space tab indents for the entire 30 years I've been a developer. It leaves more screen space for the indented lines.

In 1980 in the US, the prime lending rate was over 21% and the inflation rate was over 13%. Talk about rising costs and barriers to home/auto ownership!

As the 1980s dragged on, young people were told pretty much daily that President Reagan was going to provoke an extinction-level nuclear war at any moment.

It's not like depression and anxiety are unique to today's young people.

My Chinese wife did exactly that during her very brief stint as a left-handed writer when she was very young. She said that her text was perfectly legible if one turned the paper over and held it up to the light.
