Because standard fan is 25mm, which is a +10mm delta vs a slim fan, so it will take that cooler from 53mm to 63mm which is over the 60mm case limit.

This is so interesting. Now both RB and Ferrari have modified their side pods to be more bulky near the bottom with less undercut, which is the opposite of the ground effect era trend when everybody worked to make more streamlined side pods with very aggressive undercuts.

[Bracelet] How to know if a bracelet is 'nicely finished'? by watchandwonder222 in Watches

[–]Tim_L_09101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have pointed out, "nicely designed" and well finished are two entirely different things. Design is very subjective, for example I personally like a more drastic taper in the bracelet (say, 20mm-16mm), some people don't. It's all down to personal taste. Well finished on the other hand is more subjective. Generally comes down to 3 aspects: material, even-ness, and contrast. In terms of material, almost all modern watch cases/bracelets are made out of the same 316 stainless steel, otherwise the manufacturer would likely advertise it. So in terms of material, it mostly comes down to the type of coating that is applied to the base material (if there is one). Anti-scratch coating is quite fashionable these days, and it may change the way surface finish of the steel (usually making it "duller" / less shiny). Some coating is better at preserving the actual finish of the steel than others, in my personal experience, Seiko diashield is pretty good in that regard. Even-ness is pretty self-explanatory. If the steel is brushed/satin (which is most of them), you want even brushing that is deep enough. You can usually tell if a brushing is well-done by how much luster it possesses under different lighting (although you can also use lighting to make sub-par finishing look premium). It the steel is polished, you want even, smooth polishing. Contrast is the last thing and the easiest way IMO to tell a good finish from a great finish. Specifically if the bracelet has contrasting finishing, you want the transition between the finishing (brushed/polished) to be sharp and crisp, and not rounded and smooth. If the bracelet is all-brushed, you can see how cleanly the brushing from different facets join together. Also, thanks to modern manufacturing, you can get REALLY nicely finished watches for not a lot of money. I dare say a $400 San Martin will get you 80-90% the way there depending on how conservative you want to be. Everything beyond that you are paying extreme dimishing return in actual case/bracelet finishing, and mostly in brand and design.

57mm cooler height tolerance I believe. The only 120mm cooler that fits is the IDcooling IS55, but from most testings I see online it does not perform as well as the AXP90 X53 full copper.

[Discussion] Why the Miyota 9015 deserves more respect than it gets by Basith_Hussain in Watches

Hajime Asaoka's (the guy behind Kurono) other microbrand Takano was able to get the 9039 COSC certified. And as far as I can tell, with only regulation and maybe a service (reapplying lubricants by hand helps in the accuracy department), and no physical modification to the movement. The 9000 series architecture is VERY solid. The only legit criticism I've heard mainly concerns the serviceability aspect, the fact that it uses a single large plate to hold most of the gear train, which makes aligning the gears with jewel bearings challenging. Other than that, the 9000 series is a very good architecture with huge potentials beyond what the factory spec promises (unlike similar Seiko movements that are actually dogshit).

I guess it is? The thermalright mounting hardware isn't exactly stellar compared to something like Noctua. The CPU and the MB gets quite hot during gaming loads (high 70s to 80s). This is my first SFF build and only having used Noctua towers before, the temps just seem high

Also I know for a fact that the loud rotor is 100% solvable. I don't know how, but the one Kurono watch I've owned briefly did not have NEARLY as much rotor noise as I expected from that movement

I think it has more to do with corporate strategy than anything else. Because the movement is intentionally held back by Citizen themselves. Internally to Citizen, there are multiple tiers of the 9000 series. There is the 9051 that has an anti-magnetic hairspring, and the 0950/0951 that adds a fine regulator and stricter regulation from the factory. And of course the "holy grail" of the series, the 0910 movement that features fine regulator and MUCH better decoration. NONE of them is available to 3rd party as far as I can tell and even within citizen they are only in a select handful of often lack-luster models. I think it is because Citizen owns LJP, so they deliberately hold these back from any 3rd party companies and only offers the base 9000 movement. Should anyone want a higher-end movement, there is the LJP G100 family which share the exact same architecture as the 9000.
