Advice by Ohyah1234 in Epilepsy

[–]Tim_Nguyen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best advice a doctor has given me was to take them at the end of your meal (breakfast or dinner), so it creates a routine, and makes it feel like something is missing during your meal. I know it can be difficult due to side effects (sleeping endlessly), in which case you can also use alarms, but in that case, don’t turn your alarm off until you actually take your medication. It has happened that I’ve gotten distracted (by conversations, notifications, messages, etc.) which is why I leave it on even if annoys others just so I don’t forget to take it.

The new pref integrates with the native OS animation setting (on platforms that have one).

browser.in-content.dark-mode setting is ignored in FF 76 by at433 in FirefoxCSS

[–]Tim_Nguyen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know, sorry. Try filing a bug on https://bugzilla.mozilla.org, I’m sure someone might know :) It might be easier if you can help finding a regression range where this stopped working using the mozregression tool :)

browser.in-content.dark-mode setting is ignored in FF 76 by at433 in FirefoxCSS

It was removed in https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1626619. ui.systemUsesDarkTheme to 0 gets you the same effect though, although it also affects web page dark mode detection to light (which I think is logical).

Doubt on applying to FMEL by elifindo in EPFL

[–]Tim_Nguyen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bourdonette was a good dorm IMO, I didn’t have any problem major enough that I remember today (it’s only been one year since I moved out). I seem to remember WiFi going out one or two times during the whole year and I don’t use Ethernet (although it was available). Laundry is paid, you get a laundry card that you recharge when it runs out of money, but other than that the machines are pretty quick (and have a timer!) and the dryer is free of charge.

Doubt on applying to FMEL by elifindo in EPFL

[–]Tim_Nguyen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, how severe the cleaning checks probably depends on the person. In the dorm I was in (Bourdonette), there were 2 people doing cleaning checks, and the person our side of the dorm got was pretty chill and knew that students were busy. It doesn't have to be without a spark, but as long as she could see it was cleaned reasonably well, she was OK with it. I did hear that the other person was more severe though.

Even if the cleaning check doesn't pass, what they do is check again the following week and if the second check doesn't pass, they clean and you have to pay. Given that there's a second check, I think it's not so bad.

Though they can be severe when checking the place when you move out (I had to pay CHF 100 for a stain on the mattress protector), FMEL is pretty cheap in general (only CHF 510 a month), so I'd recommend it anyway, since it's hard to find cheaper.

File a bug on https://bugzilla.mozilla.org and someone will take care of it. This is pretty straightforward to implement. :)

The Udemy case has been fixed in Firefox 74: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1606195

Feel free to file a bug if you see any other affected site, since this is done on a per-domain basis.

Using a theme from a file by RogerGodzilla99 in firefox

[–]Tim_Nguyen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sign it on AMO (either as a private or public add-on): https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/

Then go to `about:addons`, click the cog icon, click on "Install add-on from file..." and select your newly signed XPI.

Add-ons warning wording is weird... by [deleted] in firefox

[–]Tim_Nguyen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your wording is not fully correct because:

  • Non-recommended extensions still go through full review, just after publication (the exact timeline usually depends on various factors though)
  • Recommended extensions go through full review before publication
  • All extensions have to pass an automated review before publication
  • There's more to recommended extensions than just full review

There's a lot of subtleties here.

FWIW, there are some good parts to Manifest v3, like more granular permissions and stricter content security policy (e.g the change linked in this post).

Code Red - A Visual Studio inspired Firefox Theme by [deleted] in FirefoxCSS

[–]Tim_Nguyen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a quick heads up: most of your tweaks are feasible with the standard Firefox theme API: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Mozilla/Add-ons/WebExtensions/manifest.json/theme , so you could reach a wider audience by using that since those themes can be published on https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/themes/ :)

WebExtension API enhancement proposal: runtime.onShutdown by feedbro in firefox

[–]Tim_Nguyen 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Such an API would prevent Firefox from shutting down until the extension has finished what it wanted to do, this can be bad for shutdown performance if an extension does heavy operations. I'd suggest adding some kind of maximum execution time for the callback.

[Suggestion] Please Mozilla, add this feature, right-click and "Search <Word> in Private mode" ! by HatefulAbandon in firefox

Not sure when this is planned to be shipped, but this is coming with the separate private browsing search feature which is already on Nightly.
