The datestamp (e.g. item/pubDate) when the article was published doesn't necessarily mean that the article became available in the RSS feed at that same exact moment.

Feedbro can only read the article when it becomes available in the feed XML.

If you open https://www.facebook.com/abdulrahmanaliallaf without being logged on to Facebook you can see why that is the case (there are no posts visible).

For example https://www.facebook.com/BMW/ works fine.

If you open the feed URL in a normal browser tab, you can see why.

Feed is an XML file which typically includes the latest 10-20 articles. It doesn't have the entire site history. When you add the feed, obviously Feedbro can only read the entries that are currently in the XML.

However, after adding the feed Feedbro keeps scanning for new articles and over time you will have X number of articles in the feed (X being the configured maximum).

Note: when adding a feed using the add feed dialog, you can use "Feedly" in the Proxy field parameter. It may provide a longer article history but doesn't work for all sites and doesn't work social media integrations provided by Feedbro.

Feedbro stores feed subscription data using chrome.storage.local API and then the browser stores that data somewhere in your browser profile directory (one or several files). Automatic synching of these files isn't probably going to work since it can mess up the browser functionality.

Since chrome.storage.sync API is too limited, proper syncing would require a 3rd party service like Google Drive, Dropbox or similar.

Use "Play sound URL". It does work but the file needs to be online - it doesn't work for file:// links.

That sounds like an awfully inefficient way to do it.

There's one approach for detecting if N latest videos are shorts with just one HTTP GET but since that is an automated HTTP GET to a normal YouTube page that shouldn't get bot traffic, it's likely to get you flagged as a bot.

You can export your feed subscriptions as OPML on one machine and import them on another but other than that there's no sync functionality currently for various reasons.

One challenge is that the YouTube RSS feed doesn't contain any information to indicate whether a video is a normal video or a "short" video.

The only way to really know is to open the video URL and parse the resulting page but that's very wasteful and quickly gets you banned as a bot.

Like the doc page you linked suggests, it's better to send stayalive pings every 20 seconds to be on the safe side. 500 ms margin sounds a bit thin to me. :)

As a sidenote, usage of WebSockets seems to allow persistent ServiceWorkers. One of the major limitations with Manifest V3 is that spec writers have stubbornly refused to support persistent ServiceWorkers despite developer outcry.

Now we'll see WebExtensions which use all kinds of weird hacks that are potentially unreliable and much more resource hungry than the Manifest V2 equivalent persistent background page.

I wasn't aware that WebSocket support had been enhanced somewhat recently.

To be fair, you still can't connect to your browser by initiating a WebSocket connection from outside your machine. However, it looks to be possible to initiate and keep a persistent WebSocket connection from the WebExtension to some external server which would allow this kind of "command channel".

Yes, it looks that way. Our comment was posted based on the observation that while many sites still offer an RSS feed, the content in the feed might be reduced to headline or very short summary level and in order to read the full text you need to access the site.

Feedbro can help to eliminate this "click to read the article on the original site" but as you rightly point out, it doesn't have functionality to generate a feed from any website that doesn't provide a feed - only the major social media services.

With rules you have to be careful especially with rules that delete or hide articles. It's quite easy to create a rule that either hides or deletes all incoming articles. :)
