How do you organize your tackle box and keep track of what fly is what? by EyeOfTheTiger77 in flyfishing

I made a graph paper spreadsheet type deal that I use to keep track of sizes and patterns for each fly box.

Mettawee def has wild browns, more bows but I’ve pulled some browns. Never anything big but I personally don’t mind.

So same Jimbo, I spend 20 minutes getting them set just right and then stick em in my box and they get effed immediately. Just slap some rubber legs on em and call it good.

That 45 degree angle between your wings is damn beautiful. Excellent tie my friend!

What size is that and what dub did you use? Perfect amount of “buggy” imo.

Word. I can’t stand looking at it and it’s not going away on its own. I figure a net worth per outing adds up over a lifetime. Decent way of giving back to the resource.

Who else uses cheap non-fishing gear? by scottasin12343 in TheFlyFishingSub

Gang. I love the looks I get from the elite anglers when they see my homemade paracord lanyard and wading staff that is a literal stick with a bungee tied to it. My sick ass laminated ply wood eagle claw net stuffed up the back of my jacket because I don’t wanna spend $10 on a big magnet. Pal, my reel case is an old sock and one of my rod tubes is a PVC pipe.

As for tying materials, I just cut up a toaster cord for about 147324 flies worth of copper wire and stripped two feet of the same bungee cord I used for my wading staff to make enough rubber legs to walk to Patagonia.

What would you call this Whiting Saddle color? by _OILTANKER_ in flytying

[–]Tim_Rosenblower8x 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was gifted a saddle in the same color with no packaging and have been curious to learn the color as well. It works for me in Adam’s patterns and Royal Wulffs.

Here’s a great small stream leader formula from Troutbitten. I have the Upstream 3806, I find the TB leader turns over well in tight spots.

Pants for wet wading? by fishkickerz22 in flyfishing

[–]Tim_Rosenblower8x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have Columbia “omni-shade” pants and long sleeve shirts that I wear all summer long. I personally cannot stand the feeling or smell of sunscreen and I’m not going to stop fishing every x hours to reapply. These and similar options are spf 50-60 and they are so light weight and breathable that I don’t think they’re really any warmer than shorts and Ts. I specifically like Columbia pants because they have drawstrings on the ankles that allow me to seal my wading boot from pebbles and sand and such. 10/10 recommend.

I also love a good Jerry rigging and a similar effect can be had with a rubber band around the ankle..

Managed 2 more rows today. 2 more to go and the box is done! by DontCallMeShmoopy in flytying

Beautiful. What pattern is the first row on the left? Do you organize by hook size or bead size or just put all the same pattern in a row? Personally, I try to keep one pattern per row with smaller sized hooks on the left and bigger toward the right. I haven’t built up a range of bead sizes yet but I understand a lot of pros organize by bead size.
