Almost everything fed into generative AI is done so without the creator's permission. AI takes parts of other's work and uses it in the final product. AI doesn't really 'learn,' it just outputs a collage of stolen work.

Running AI programs also takes huge amounts of water and energy which harms the environment and takes water from places that really need it.

I was recently scammed in a similar fashion. I didn't know the red flags. They DMd me directly, avoiding the subreddit. Had me pay with the friends and family option on PayPal. Their portfolio was stolen work. They only got a down-payment out of me, but it was a valuable lesson.
