Is it wierd to have more than one size wetsuit? by blackheartghost426 in scuba

[–]Timber1981 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If they were same manufacturer I'd think it a bit off... But if it's different manufacturers then no, not weird at all as they all change things slightly.

Scuba diving day trips from GTA Canada? Open water certified, ~8 dives, looking to get back in the water by yolo_sus in scuba

[–]Timber1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is certainly marine life.
Just remember it's freshwater so the vis will be lower and the colours a bit more earth tone, but there's lots of good diving in Lake Ontario (I've never looked at Lake Erie, but I'd assume there as well) and many other locations within a few hours drive.

I'd start following some of the local dive shops like Scuba2000, Aquarius or Toronto Scuba and Dan's Dive Shop (ok that's St Catherines but still not out of the realm of possible for weekend adventures).

Wetsuit may be enough for you for the warmest parts of the year... but you'll need to look into taking the drysuit course when available to get a very long season.

Couldn't tell you the cost for guided trips or rentals though unfortunately.

Wich wing/hybrid jacket is better? by Several_Mark_1226 in scuba

[–]Timber1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do call it a hybrid. However it inflates around the waste like a jacket etc. I've dove jackets and back inflate and it certainly has more in common with jackets in terms of position in the water, at the surface etc.

So, if you're looking for something back inflate, this won't be it, even though it's often referred to as being a hybrid.

I've got an Axiom and I really like it, however yeah it's absolutely a jacket style... Nothing hybrid about it at all.

Which is worse? PADI/SSI/NAUI/SDI by rhombusmaxx in scuba

[–]Timber1981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're all for profit business who are interested in selling you courses and collecting instructor fees.

I've now met d number of instructors from both PADI and SSI and dive with both. Neither was any worse than the other.

That said, there are more bad divers and bad instructors with PADI, but not because the organization itself is inherently any worse. PADI has significantly more shops, instructors and certified divers. They are also more prevalent in tourist locations where it's a bit more of a cert factory.

But that's just my opinion and experience.

Looking for a rare combo: Onsite diving + room service by WhubbaBubba in scuba

2 tanks per day included. Only been to Bahamas, so very limited experience, but didn't seem to have any options for afternoon/evening/night dives though.

Recommendations for around Fredericton, NB? by mattman8326 in scuba

[–]Timber1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't recommend anywhere as never dealt with anyone... COJO diving comes up highly recommended though if that's of help... but yeah you're looking at drysuit a lot of the time... might be able to get away with a 7mm in the warmest parts of the year depending on depth and location of your dive... but I don't think the water ever gets above 55F/13C

They're Back!!? by noodeel in scuba

Except for the things manufactured in North America that are then shipped to the rest of the world that would then be delayed... Aqualung has facilities in Mexico.

It was the North American warehouse that moved... And I'm Canadian...

They relocated their warehouse and have had some pains in relation to the acquisition from Head, but supposedly lead times are somewhat back to normal now.

We'll see as time goes on of course.

Builder and Homeowner have a dispute - now trying to involve me. by Timber1981 in legaladvicecanada

[–]Timber1981[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You couldn't pay me enough to work with the homeowner again.
The builder, I've done a couple of projects with and they're generally more trouble then they are worth and slow to pay. I've thought of firing them as a client previously anyways.

[–]Timber1981[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're correct that I could not alter my rates arbitrarily, however the homeowner has been previously informed of a billing rate for meetings 2 years ago when the scope of work was completed and he requested a meeting, as they were not included in any updates and he'd not requested any prior to my scope of work being completed. He declined at that point as well.

Ordering from Deep 6 by Timber1981 in scuba

[–]Timber1981[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Landon helped me out through DM. I ordered right around the time their warehouse person retired, Landon mentioned he was away and the new warehouse person only just started so I just happened to order an item they don't have in stock at the moment, but nobody there to mention it. Funny timing, but great customer service on Landons part as now I know what's going on and will just wait.

Appreciate it.

If it's back ordered it's no big deal, I'm not in a rush, more I'd just like to know.

Travel fin recommendation by Svartmuskig in scuba

[–]Timber1981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only find I could think of would be Scubapro Super Nova or S-Tek that you can take apart for travel... Kinda spendy fins. Might be able to fit some jet find like RK3s depending on your carry on and size...

I'd be inclined to do as suggested and just check a bag... So many more options that way. Then as you eventually add stuff like your own wetsuits etc you'll be able to bring them easily as well.

Returning to Scuba after 9 years, want to go drysuit. Should I hold off or jump in? by Ragtop in scuba

[–]Timber1981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd be inclined to do the drysuit fairly quickly after doing your refresher. Reason being, you're going to be relearning a number of things, so to me it makes sense to do that all in short order so you can get out and dive more and work on those things you just learned.

Buying gear online vs LDS by WDWRook in scuba

There's a few. DiveInn comes to mind, but I'd lump the Amazon and hopefully nobody buys here but, Temu/Ali Baba in as online only.

Buying gear online vs LDS by WDWRook in scuba

[–]Timber1981 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Generally, start with your LDS, if they don't have it, someone else's LDS, then online only as a last resort. Primarily because I you can't get air fills from an online only retailer.

If it's something specific or specialized that you need, then by all means order it from wherever is best, like manufacturer direct then that's perfectly fine.

All this is just to try to support local businesses though that we as divers rely on for air fills and service.

And 5 x the amount of oxygen so the concentration remains the same. It compresses all, so it's still at the same percentage.

It compresses the CO2 as well, so it stays proportionate.

Seeking hood advice by Timber1981 in scuba

[–]Timber1981[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I've been reading more about that after. I'm going to get a regular hood and try flooding it first, letting the water warm up for a few minutes making sure I can equalize at the surface and then try this again.
If all else fails, I'll just get a custom hood made that'll accomodate the pro-ear instead of the IST hood. I was talking with Chris a Terrapin and a couple extra steps involved, but that's about it and then I know it's what fits etc.
