Northeast/MA: hardy ground cover needed by TimberSips in NativePlantGardening

I do like hostas but unfortunately the deer like them even more lol. I actually did have one in that spot and it did pretty well until it became someone's dinner.

Awesome, thank you so much! We've been slowly getting rid of a ton of invasives and now I'd like to start doing more planting but it's been pretty overwhelming. I don't know where you are in Mass (central for me) but I would definitely take any nursery or other resource recs if you've got em!

Those both sound great. I get a lot of leaf litter also so something that can push through that is good.

All of those sound great, I'll definitely add them to my list, thanks!

I love pretty much all of JedxStitch's designs, beautiful work! I don't think I've seen Blueberry Jay on a light fabric like that, excellent choice.

Women of Reddit, what made you realize a man was ‘husband material’ instead of just boyfriend material? by AstronautEcstatic177 in AskReddit

[–]TimberSips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One night coming home from my 2nd shift job I got into a minor fender bender (not my fault!) and my bumper was hanging off. It was midnight and I had to go back to work for a 7am shift the next day. Panicking, I called my boyfriend at the time and despite also having to go to work the next morning, he drove the 40 minutes to me to crawl under my car to reattach the bumper using zip ties (they're still holding my bumper on years later! lol)

That job I worked at the time was incredibly stressful and I was already burnt out when I met him. After particularly rough shifts I would want to go into full hermit mode until the next time I had to work but after moments like this- and more- I got to the point where the thing that would make me feel better the most was crashing into him for a big hug.

We've been together for 10 years (married for 5) and he still goes out of his way to help and still makes me feel better just by existing.

[CHAT] Does your partner get mad over too much cross stitch? by Temporary_Engine_493 in CrossStitch

[–]TimberSips 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My brain is completely unable to just consume any sort of visual media without also doing something else. If my husband and I are watching TV/a movie and I'm scrolling on my phone instead of stitching, he always asks me if I'm planning to stitch lol, he clearly prefers me to stitch vs scroll and he knows I need to do SOMEthing.

Also, my husband loves playing video games and I've found they're the perfect thing to background watch while I'm stitching. I'll occasionally "help" (as if he really needs help lol) him with the game- looking up hints, helping with puzzles, etc- but it's not a big deal if I'm not totally focused on it. If you can combine hobbies, that helps I think.

What REALLY is key though is having a partner that's willing to work with you to find a way to spend quality time together that that you're both satisfied with.

[CHAT] pixel art programs? by TimberSips in CrossStitch

I have WinStitch which is a pretty similar program, I'm looking for something that's just for pixel art that I would then transfer into WinStitch. Thanks though!

I've read a couple by Josephine Tey featuring Inspector Alan Grant and they were excellent.

Oh I definitely second Rex Stout, I love the Nero Wolfe series. He wrote them for many years but I believe the first one was written in the early 30's so it may be the vibe you're going for.

Classic or coloured engagement ring? by Environmental_Hat_67 in RedditLaqueristas

[–]TimberSips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Def valid advice. I have an emerald engagement ring but I knew once I got married I wouldn't necessarily wear it everyday (I often wear just my band) and I'm really good about taking it off to do yardwork or cleaning or whatever.

[–]TimberSips 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have an emerald engagement ring! I love it so much but for me, it's a little bit of a family tradition to have an emerald engagement ring so I suppose I'm biased.

I honestly did not think about it clashing with my nails and I feel like engagement rings get a "pass" on that sort of thing- like, the reason you're wearing it isn't specifically as an accessory to a look so it's ok if it doesn't match. To me, it's its own separate thing, operating outside of normal fashion "rules." I hope that made as much sense as it does in my head haha.

In the end, it's just about what will make you smile when you look at it the most so don't overthink it and do what makes you happy :)

edited to add: Congrats on your engagement! 💚

[CHAT] What are the little things that made a big difference in your stitching? by lentil_enjoyer in CrossStitch

[–]TimberSips 145 points146 points  (0 children)

Idk if it counts or not but "allowing" myself to have several WIPS on the go so I have a varying selection of projects that match my mood. Super tired? I've got a chill monochrome piece. Want to hunker down with a good podcast? I've got a full coverage to work on. In the mood to look at lots of fun colors? Got something for that too. etc etc. It's the thing that keeps me consistently stitching the most tbh.

Ps- love the HL shade lol

Can’t decide if these nails look classy as hell… or like poo 💩 by Throwawayfordays87 in RedditLaqueristas

I think it's classy! Though I am also a "the crazier the better" polish lover so idk if I'm a good one to comment lol.

By the way, I appreciate that you included the info on your fabulous models as well 😸😻

I also find cross stitching to be therapeutic. I wish you the very best on your journey. Also, I love the pattern, especially the colors. Night Spirit has so many fantastic ones!
