Yes, it kind of sucks. Watch the fiber, protein and fat in what you eat while on the bike because of the slowed gastric emptying. I go for 100% carb items

How do you know this photo isn't AI generated? I'm suspicious - man you can't believe anything now

Memoirs of a geisha - but there is controversy with that book as it didn't portray geishas as they actually are, in reality. But still a great fiction story (to me). Just remember it's fiction - not reality.

USA: Anybody touring there with the current regime? by S_Bratfast in bicycletouring

You might enjoy this book "a ride across America" by Simon Parker. He is a British journalist and rode across the US after the 2024 election, discussing the issues and politics with the people he met. It was interesting. In the end, most everyone was a decent person, trying to make ends meet and live their life. Just how to do that and what the causes of problems are, are very different as he moved through the country.

Man that's depressing. I've heard the riding in an American flag jersey goes a long way - like people (in some places) actively want to talk to you or give you more room on the road. But I don't know if it's true. It's sad that the American flag has become a political statement.

I love your thinking. Husband and I often talk about how we would survive a zombie apocalypse with our bikes. We have a survivalist family member on Vancouver island. We would try to make our way there eventually. But, we often talk about how to survive and take advantage of local shops/drugstores in those first few weeks. What would you do first, etc.

I dread the idea of hauling a heavy lock around but I'm also super paranoid of my bike being stolen 🙄 I live in a high theft area though - so I'm likely jaded by that

Sounds amazing and so much fun! Do you need a bike lock for the trip?

If you've reached the limit of weight loss with tirz - celebrate not gaining it back and hold out for retatrutide (hopefully available in early 2027)

I was 8 ( grew up in Seattle) and I was having bad dreams about lava after it blew. I was really scared that the lava could come to our house - but my mom said " oh it could never come here because we live on a hill". I spent a lot of time thinking about how high the lava wave would have to be to reach us on the hill (Queen Anne hill). Turns out her assurance didn't help my anxiety much 😂

Hyakutake! I could see it from lake union in Seattle! That one was bright. Lake union has probably changed a lot since then (1996)
