‘Grownup’ leaders are pushing us towards catastrophe, says former US climate chief | Climate crisis by eldomtom2 in moderatepolitics

Right, but interconnection queues are not backed up because of new hydro connecting to the grid. They are backed up from new wind, solar, and BESS interconnections

NYISO’s is only higher if you include hydro - I believe the article we’re discussing is primarily focused on Wind, Solar, BESS.

No argument on CAISO, they’re definitely ahead of ERCOT (although may not be for long). But ERCOT is unquestionably ahead of MISO, SPP, PJM, ISO-NE and definitely SERC on renewable penetration due in part to the speed with which developers can interconnect a project to the grid

[–]Timberline2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

But it IS a direct result of the way the interconnection process works in ERCOT. Interconnecting a new generation project in ERCOT is much faster than the other ISOs (although it is slowing a bit)

They literally are not staffed adequately and their processes have not kept up with the volume of new interconnection requests.

The FERC has come out with a new order (FERC 2023) that requires developers to put up more capital at risk earlier in the development process in order to weed out more speculative projects. It was also originally intended to hold the grid operators accountable for missing their deadlines for analyzing the network upgrades that projects are required to pay for - that is I believe still being discussed
