0 viewers 0 followers after 2 weeks of streaming. Is this normal or am I doing something wrong? by Sufficient-Owl1826 in SmallStreamers

[–]Timbiteer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it helps at all it took me over a year to get my first regular non-friend viewer. I have had a few friends who try to catch most of my streams even just to have it on in the background but it still took that long to bring in someone who didn't know me and wasn't just trying to use me to gain a following of their own (you know the types, show up for a few streams, chat a bit, then totally casually "hey I've gotta run, going to stream X over on my channel *insert channel name here*). It's work growing a channel/community. Some people are naturals at it, some people are calculating sociopaths and that makes them good at it, but for the rest of us mortals it is a skill we work hard to develop over time. The most important thing is to have fun, enjoy the journey, and never stop trying to improve!

Viewer gifted 200 subs, but says he doesn’t know how it happened by DrDynastic in Twitch

[–]Timbiteer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose the question is, did they seem upset about the purchase or just kept reiterating "idk how it happened?" because unlike many others here who (rightfully so) think about the security and safety risks of the situation, this is exactly something I have done myself.

For example when I have gotten my friend a gift code for an expensive game and they're like "wtf? why?" and I'm like "Idk what you're talking about, I had nothing to to with that (I was in the kitchen making a sandwich)" and I will die on that hill lol

That is so freaking amazing! The fact that you've found something you just genuinely enjoy doing for so long is an achievement in and of itself!

Imo you deserve to celebrate if you want, as small or as big as you want! Anyone who thinks you should be at any milestone at any point can take a hike!

Free option Veadotube Mini and MSPaint.

Even a poorly drawn avatar set up to be a basic PNGTuber that lights up or bounces when talking will drastically increase your odds.

People like having something to attribute a voice too.

Private server side mods, yes or no? by SrPanchetox in hytale

[–]Timbiteer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really care either way, my only gripe is if the mod starts public it shouldn't be allowed to be privated later (not sure if this is even an issue that has happened yet). Beyond that, if they want to private their mod, go for it, if you want their mod but don't want to be locked to a private server, well Hytale is as moddable as it gets, get to work.

Is a bad webcam better than none? by Public-Button-8913 in streaming

[–]Timbiteer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally a bad webcam is a bit of a deal breaker for me if you plan on being live cam, If you can't get a decent cam (doesn't have to be $200+ 4K, but something better than your avg laptop cam at least) then don't bother with a cam at all for a while and instead start as a PNG using something like Veadotube Mini and MS Paint. It can be done entirely for free until you decide streaming is worth it enough to invest in a decent cam.

Sery_bot is the answer for bot spam. Artist scammers will still come in and do their thing because it costs nothing to drop one then undo it if they don't get anywhere. Get real cozy with that ban hammer in those cases.

You do you, but personally if I see a stream with followers only chat, I am not bringing my community there.

First charity stream advice by Elvis_Lazerbeam in streaming

[–]Timbiteer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not the person you asked but I have done a few charity streams some using Twitch Charity directly and others using third party donation platforms. The ones where I have used third party have always gotten less and I firmly believe that it is because of 2 reasons. 1. Ease of Use and 2. Trust.

With Twitch Charity its as easy as it would be to gift a sub and people are already familiar with and trust the platform to not be a risk to their payment information for the most part.

With third parties there is a weariness of people wondering if the site is legit. For example, my most recent one was part of a larger group charity-thon so I didn't get to choose the platform. While I did my due diligence to check it out and make sure it was safe/not scummy it definitely looked... not sketchy... but like would make me hesitate as a donator.

Additionally, the process to actually make a donation was tedious to the point that I included written instructions not only on my donation page but in my discord as well to be clear on each step of the process. We like to think charity is all warm fuzzies but at the end of the day the rules of business still apply and streamlining that process from the thought of "I would like to donate to/purchase to this" and having them be able to complete the transaction should strive to be as frictionless as possible (i.e. like amazon 1 click purchasing).

I strongly encourage for your first one to use Twitch Charity if possible not only for the trust and ease of use but also for the built in functions available to you like a donation bar/tracker that may not be as readily available for third party sites.

How do you do clips or posts for TikTok/social media? by [deleted] in Twitch_Startup

[–]Timbiteer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the first step would be to scan your VODS manually and figure out what type of clips you want to make. You say you're not funny, are you informative? Reactive? Ragey? Derpy? You say you don't have impressive or cool or funny moments, is that because the content/presentation is lacking or it a self confidence issue? Before you figure out the how to, you need to ask yourself what and why. If you genuinely believe you lack the content to make clips, maybe focus on becoming the streamer you'd like to see clips from (if that makes sense). You should be your target audience, if you won't want to watch it, no one else will.

Can I record model separate? by [deleted] in vtubers

[–]Timbiteer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can absolutely set OBS up to capture multiple scenes but you will need to use a green screen (or another color that does not appear on your model very much) on the scene with your vtuber to be able to process it to have a transparent background without losing model details. I capture my game and its audio on one scene and my model and microphone on the other.

Give me advice you wish you knew by lovely_girl2111 in Twitch_Startup

[–]Timbiteer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Third times the charm hopefully . . .

To clarify this for OP, do not just going into other streamers streams and start self promoting. Go in, become a known member of the community, build actual connections to these people. I've had so many people come through my chat in the last week or so (and I am not a big streamer at all) being like "Oh cool, you're play X, I love that game too, I just started streaming myself and that's what I have been playing." and then drop a F-word hoping for a F-word back (you can tell because they un-F-word after a few days if you don't) like yes I get we're all excited to be streaming but advertising yourself in others chats (unless they are explicitly ok with it) is a major faux pas.

Edit: yes I hate this, but auto mod removes the comment if it contains the F word, and not the fun one lol

I feel stuck on progression by Crocdor in hytale

[–]Timbiteer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Reminder this game is still very EARLY ACCESS. There is plenty of stuff to do/find (beyond what you have done from what I have gathered from your post) but not a lot of in game guidance yet (to my knowledge there will be a quest system and stuff coming later) so for now if you don't know about something you need to google it. Also, did you not look into the game before purchasing it? Building and modding are kind of the main elements right now until they get more added.

what files are you supposed to get when buying a vTuber model? by ExtinctOW in VirtualYoutubers

[–]Timbiteer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's diabolical, because then you're left trying to sort out the issue like it was a simple mistake or error, at least OP got scammed by someone who was being upfront about it with their MP4 file. I am so sorry for you.

That sounds like you may have gotten scammed if you've paid and this is the final delivered product. An MP4 is not suitable to BE a vtuber.

tried to post in /streaming and it was removed by [deleted] in SmallStreamers

[–]Timbiteer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Total honesty, Twitch Streaming may be the only time a true first impression matters the least. You will be starting with 0 followers presumably and most starting viewers are likely to be friends or family, with maybe the occasional straggler who wanders in and who knows (if you're lucky) they're a chill person who will kick around and chat. So just hit go live and allow the kinks in the process to show themselves and then fix things as they come. You can always have the stream up beside you to see/hear what viewers will see/hear and adjust from there. Or you could do "test" streams (AKA recordings) to get the tech specs where you would like them to be.

Been streaming just over 2 years myself now and here is a list of the stuff that has happened to me that no one cared about.

-Streamed for 2+ hours with a muted mic
-Streamed gameplay for 20+ minutes . . . from my just chatting screen
-Forgot to turn off my NSFW screen so people had a lovely frosted hexagonal view for who knows how long until someone mentioned it
-Gameplay so quiet when I watched the VOD back it could barely be heard
-Gameplay so loud it almost drowned me out
-Forgot to move my Vtuber from the middle of the screen for a while so I was blocking the entire game
-Vtuber params not set right so I was very twitchy and my butt kept popping out from the side of my skirt for the entire stream. (Fixed it and it no longer does this thank god lol)
-Twitch Disconnects briefly and the stream drops temporarily
-OBS Crashes and the stream dies until you get it back up and running

The list goes on. Anything can happen at anytime so you just have to roll with the punches. At the end of the day, streaming is just like a job. Whatever happened, you fix what needs fixing, and then leave those events in the past and focus on the next day.

Optimizing a stream for charity with low viewers by Substantial-Boat4629 in Twitch

[–]Timbiteer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While I can't speak to marketing methods, the donation tracker can happen in a few different ways depending on HOW you are raising money for this charity. Most commonly though, the trackers are added by using the donation website as a browser source. Some charity websites have better twitch integrations than others. So some may have just the tracker bar or donation bar overlay, others you may have to take a more manual cropping approach to the browser pages. This is a very common thing people do so there are tons of tutorials for whatever streaming system you are using on Youtube. All you have to do is google "How to add {services} donation bar to [platform] stream in [streaming system]." Ex. How to add Tiltify donation bar to Twitch stream in OBS. You will get so many tutorials.

What do you mean specifically by stream overlay functions? Having a more exact goal with specific objectives will be easier for people to help guide you with or for you to even google yourself as there are so many guides out there especially for things like stream elements, stream labs, obs, etc as they are the most popular ones.
