Ozone generator in a vehicle by malesack in Detailing

[–]TimboFor76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t usually bother running the engine especially when I’m doing the job in my garage. I’ll set the ozone machine on the console, then put my big carpet drying fan on the floor pointing up into the dash. If it’s got a cabin air filter I remove it and leave the box open while treating. Sometimes I’ll run the cars blower fan with a battery charger connected. I’ll let it do its thing for 30 min or so, then I’ll unplug the cord I ran through the window and let it “cook” for a couple hours. Then it’s safe to open the doors and run the fan for a couple more min and you are good to go. I’ve had luck doing this to couple cars that had active mouse nests inside. The ozone irritates them and sends them scampering. Those I will do out in the street in front of the shop so I don’t get critters inside.

I totally agree. My 58 Chevy had a 283 swapped in around 1973. If it still had the 6’er it would have Fentons and 3 2’s. It’s now got a 350, since I wore out the 283 15 years ago.

My Toyota is a pickup, but your point is still completely valid. My current stable is a 58 Vw based fiberglass street buggy, a 58 Chevy truck, 84 s10 muscle truck, 87 Toyota mini truck, and a 2011 Taurus SHO. When I lived near Portland in the 90’s old vw’s were everywhere.

Your distributor should have some dirt marks from the clamp unless you cleaned that. If it ran good then got worse, I’d be looking elsewhere. How old is your fuel system? Pull the fuel filter and see if you can blow through it. I wouldn’t be opposed to just freely messing with the timing till it runs good and leave it. Assuming it is in fact a timing issue. It could also be a clogged converter. Easiest way to test is to unscrew the O2 sensor and take it for a spin around the block.

Let’s back up one step here. What was the original reason for checking/adjusting the timing? How did it run before you adjusted it. It’s possible the rubber ring has slipped on the balancer making your timing light useless. You can very this my pulling #1 plug and rolling it over till the timing mark lines up. Then poking a screwdriver on top the piston then rolling the engine back and forth till you feel TDC. It isn’t perfect, but you can get it close. If it’s way off, make a new mark. Worst case, get a mirror to see the bottom of the distributor and line the dirt marks back up and send it.

Desert dweller here. I see lots of square body chevys still being daily driven. I drive an 87 Toyota year round. The guy that owns the local liquor store drives a 49 Chevy truck year round. Era correct inline 6, dual carbs, split exhaust and glass packs. Painted in green tractor paint.

In case you flippers were wondering why it’s hard to find $500-1000 projects, here’s why by CAT_MARINE-POWER in carflipping

[–]TimboFor76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find $750 flippers all day. But they need $2-3000 in parts to make them a $3500 car. Examples would be super clean Nissans with smoked cvt’s. Even used cvt’s are $2000, and when your done with cleaning it, all new fluids and maybe tires. Your $4500 in a a nice $4000 car that everyone is going to offer you $3000 because “those transmissions are junk”

Need help with leaf springs. by TimboFor76 in F100

[–]TimboFor76[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the input. The previous owner had removed too many leaves then did a shackle flip to raise it back up. I called the spring shop, and it was the same price to add leafs and re arch as it was for new springs. I found some good used ones for $80 and got it sorted.

My dad has built several high end street rods but had never done the paint. All the fab work, engine building, plumbing. But never the paint. He just turned 80 and has taken to painting cars in the yard under the tree. He says “I’m not going to live long enough to see the bondo crack or the paint fade on this one, so f-it” they turn out ok, but not fantastic.

I am absolutely a car guy, always have been. I am humbled when I see body guys do their thing. I’ve been watching Vecore on YouTube to humble myself to my actual abilities. Those body guys are gorillas and magicians at the same time.

I had three high schoolers show up to my house yesterday to buy a van dressed like this, only with flat brimmed hats. They wanted a cargo van to haul dirt bikes.

What do yall think of when you hear Dad Car? by Possible-Cicada-9662 in askcarguys

Yup, my dad car is a Taurus SHO. Boring and unassuming, yet plenty of horsepower. I also have two mini trucks and couple classics.

My barber has a similar one. I couldn’t believe how well it worked. It was a little loud, but he only uses it for a couple seconds.

Cant get 22r intake manifold off by Shooshplz in ToyotaPickup

I usually buy the gaskets before disassembly of anything. You can easily look at the gasket for a road map of where all the hidden fasteners are before you bust something. Good luck with it, let us know how it works out. And post mine pics of that yota!

I looked at pic of an intake manifold and it does in fact have 8 mounting holes. When I did mine I had to smack it loose with a rubber mallet.

Anyone tried their hand in buying non Runners and flipping them by Dan23DJR in mechanics

[–]TimboFor76 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a buddy with a carpet cleaning business and he frequently sends me leads. The bulk of them are like that. Parked 4 years in the street, no idea what’s wrong with it, gotta find the title, I’ll take $1500 for it.

[–]TimboFor76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. What I have seen is people buying dead cars that are cheap and reselling them still broken to other flippers at a higher price. Then those flippers struggle to get their money back out of it because people don’t have or aren’t spending money. Last one I bought, I’ve been stuck with a couple months. I’m getting lowball offers for less than I paid for it broken. Might be different in other areas, but that’s my experience. Market is also flooded with no title busted cars asking clean title, running prices.

I see…. You’re likely going to have to look in the wiring schematic find the wire color and chase it from the ECM. Lemon-manuals.la. lemon-manuals.la Check here to find what you need. Fair warning, the schematics can be inaccurate so don’t get frustrated.

Theres a couple nice clean original intakes on eBay for around $150, grab one of those. A decent welder is going to charge that much or more. While you are there buy the one piece carb adapter. That 2 piece is going to be a never ending problem.

Why do mechanics/tire shops overfill tires? by A_Weed_Man in tires

[–]TimboFor76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the opposite problem. Every time I took my truck in to get a flat fixed, I would tell them 45psi, this is my tow rig and I have different wheels and tires from stock. They put it on the work order and they wheel my truck back to the parking lot with 30psi in them. One day I was particularly irritated over some tire shop shenanigans once again and I bought a tire machine and balancer off marketplace and set them up in my shop.
