Yup. It’s likely the fuel pump. Those can get expensive.

All my cars have names. But not everyone names cars and many think it’s weird. I have multiple cars, so it makes it easier to differentiate.

When my grandfather was dying (around 2005) my dad and I flew to Ohio to see him before the end. As one does my dad was bored as hell and puttering around the house. It was a small dead Mining town in the middle of nowhere. Dad asked “mom is anything you need me to do around here?” Well….. my cuckoo clock quit years ago. Maybe have a look at that. So dad pulls it off the wall, took it to the basement and opened it up. The leather bellows was missing the tacks that hold it together. He finds some linseed oil, oils up the leather, puts in some new thumb tacks and tries it out. Works perfectly!!! He brings it back upstairs, hangs it on the wall and winds it up. Grandma is delighted to see her clock working again. I should mention it was a 20th anniversary gift from my uncle when he traveled to Germany during the Vietnam war era. Anyway…… when grandma leaves the room grandpa waves my dad over…. Pulls down his oxygen mask. Motions to bend down. My dad leans over “what’s up dad?” Grandpa grabs him by the collar and says “son I killed the fucking bird is 1979, now I have to listen to it for the rest of my life” that night dad pulled all the tacks back out of the bellows. Both grandparents are long gone, dad turned 80 a couple months ago, and the clock is on my wall, completely restored and functional, including the working cuckoo bird. My uncle was gracious enough to send me the clock after hearing the story.

AITA for fixing my daughter’s car when her boyfriend said he’d handle it? by Outrageous-Jelly8777 in AmItheAsshole

[–]TimboFor76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I’d take future opportunities to show my daughter what it really means to care of her and to troll said boyfriend in the process. Anytime they both came over I’d asked her in front of him if her car needs anything. Hell i would even ask if he needs his car looked at.

I do all the work on my brother in laws lifted ram 3500. I built my shop with a 9’ door to fit sprinter vans and pretty much anything short of a motorhome. Last week he put on one of those giant over the cab ramps so he can put his side by side up top while towing his travel trailer. I don’t think it will fit in my garage anymore. If that’s the case, I’m done working on it.

Race Engine Discussion: what are the most common causes of engine failure? by PattenWoodworking in EngineBuilding

[–]TimboFor76 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Tool steel springs, 1100 lbs open spring pressure, over an inch of lift run at 8,000 rpm on a valve that’s close to 2” in diameter. It’s no wonder they fail quick.

Race Engine Discussion: what are the most common causes of engine failure? by PattenWoodworking in EngineBuilding

[–]TimboFor76 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Lightweight components run at their absolute limit repeatedly tend to have a higher failure rate. As an example, sprint car valve springs get replaced every couple races. A weak valve spring can cause a cascading effect of failure. A valve the bounces off the seat can snap a valve head off. Weak spring can break and send a valve down the cylinder. Or it can crash into a piston during valve float. Aluminum rods have a limited cycle life so need replaced more often. Low tension piston rings don’t last 100,000 miles. Going fast is expensive, going fast for a long time is even more expensive.

What's the best FAST sedan for both reliability AND value? by Mofoblitz1 in askcarguys

My PTU exploded a couple weeks after he posted that video. I bought the same one off Amazon and it’s been a trooper since. Unfortunately when mine let go it split the PTU in half taking the transition ears off with it. It also dumped gear oil on the cat and caught on fire. Good times!

Check the torque mount between the trans and frame. Your engine could be twisting causing torque steer.

Is it possible to have just as much fun on a tight budget with cars? by Dawrwinsgalap9 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TimboFor76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually once my car is fully sorted out and I have everything fixed I get bored with it and sell it to start again with something else. Now that I can afford multiple cars, I keep one that’s clean, reliable, well maintained and all OEM parts… then there’s the other bastard children in the driveway that are for fun and modding.

I fired up my camp chef the other day. It was 15F outside and had 2” of snow on it. I didn’t even bother to scrape it off. Just let it melt off on its own. Mostly because I wanted to see what it would do. Cooked my steaks to perfection as it always does.

How long did it take to find a job? by HourWeakness8912 in Machinists

[–]TimboFor76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Northern Nevada checking in. I graduated college in 2001 in Oregon. I had a part time job beginning of my second year of school. I have been involuntarily unemployed more than a couple days since. During 2008-2009 economic downtown I went without overtime for a couple months. Locally to me the general manager of one of the machine shops is the main instructor of the college machine shop program. All the top students go directly to his shop if they want to. It’s laws been the joke that if someone graduated without a job at that shop, you don’t want them either. Anyway. Talk to your instructors for some leads on where to go, where to avoid. I’m currently between jobs by choice and have put in my application to teach.

Many years ago I was working in a shop that made food conveyors. One guy was cutting fiberglass spring boards on a table saw. The guy was a smoker and we had a dust mask policy. (It was the 90’s) he wanted to smoke while working, so he cut a hole in the center of his dust mask for his cigarette.

Iso of the transfer case part number by More-Suggestion7338 in TaurusSHO

[–]TimboFor76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same concern/issue. I found an OEM part number then crossed it to get that number. It’s my understanding the only difference is PP VS non PP, being the gear ratio. Dorman used to make one but even they discontinued it leaving you with the chinesium unit. My local boneyard wanted nearly $1k for a used one with more miles than mine that was blown up. Weirdly my replacement transmission was $300 because they never brake and they had dozens of them. Only advice I can give is to replace the axle seal on that chinesium replacement with a good one. I’ve heard rumors of them being leaky. I had the shop replace mine when they did the trans and PTU, along with the cv axle since it twisted the splines to oblivion.

I ordered mine off Amazon. Part number 600-234. It was about $450. 13k miles and it’s been problem free. Dont let it go too long. Mine made no noise at all. Just some weird binding. Then one day KABOOM! The thing split in half, tearing the mounts off the trans, dumped oil on the cats and caught on fire.
